Book Synopsis Oceanography of Asian Marginal Seas by : K. Takano
Download or read book Oceanography of Asian Marginal Seas written by K. Takano and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1991-06-06 with total page 430 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains 31 papers on physical and geological oceanography, marine engineering and meterology in the Japan Sea and the East China Sea. Almost all these papers were presented at the Fifth JECSS (Japan and East China Seas Study) Workshop held in Korea in 1989. Results of multinational cooperative studies carried out since the initiation of JECSS in 1981 are presented. Authors are from China, Japan, Korea, UK, USA and USSR. A wide range of subjects are covered from the viewpoint of various disciplines. The status of recent research on Asian marginal seas is outlined and points at issue are defined. An important aspect is the coverage of results from the USSR and China which are not normally easily accessible to scientists in other countries, despite the importance of this research to the international scientific community. Various subjects, from estuaries to the problems related to the whole north Pacific, are covered in this book, and it is recommended to scientists in coastal oceanography, environmental oceanography, mesoscale (synoptic scale) oceanography and large-scale oceanography.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Containing the proceedings of the tenth International Conference on Advances in Fluid Mechanics it follows the success of all previous conferences in the series, the first of which took place in 1996. The field of fluid mechanics is vast and has numerous, diverse applications. This book covers a wide range of topics, including basic formulations and their computer modelling as well as the relationship between experimental and analytical results. The emphasis is on new applications and research currently in progress. Topics covered include: Computational methods; Hydrodynamics; Fluid structure interaction; Multiphase flow; Bio-fluids; Electronic components; Environmental fluid mechanics; Heat and mass transfer; Industrial applications; Energy systems; Nano and micro fluids; Turbulent flow; River hydraulics; Combustion problems; Jets; Fluidics; Bubble and drop dynamics.
Book Synopsis A Journey Through Tides by : Mattias Green
Download or read book A Journey Through Tides written by Mattias Green and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2022-09-13 with total page 468 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Journey Through Tides is a fully comprehensive text on the history of tides. It brings together geology and oceanography and discusses, in detail, new ideas that have emerged about how tectonics and tides interact. In addition, the book provides an overview of Earth’s history, from the perspective of tidal changes, while also highlighting other fascinating phenomena (e.g., solid Earth tides and links between tides and earthquakes). Sections cover an introduction to tides for oceanography students and scientists from other disciplines, cover the Earth’s deep time processes, and include several case studies of specific topics/processes that apply to a earth science disciplines. There are many other processes that drive and modify the tides, hence this book also describes why there is a tide, how it has changed since Earth’s early days, and what consequences the tides, and changes in the tides, have on other parts of the Earth system. Presents a fully comprehensive overview on tides that goes beyond the field of oceanography Provides a state-of-the-art review on science related to tides, a fundamental element in the Earth System that regulates our planet Explores the limits of our knowledge, including much ongoing research on deep time tides, future tides, tides in exoplanets, and more Includes a website with tectonic animations and associated tidal evolution videos for interactive learning

Book Synopsis Geodynamics and Earth Tides Observations from Global to Micro Scale by : Carla Braitenberg
Download or read book Geodynamics and Earth Tides Observations from Global to Micro Scale written by Carla Braitenberg and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-08-23 with total page 331 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume treats the key aspects that must be known when dealing with continuous space geodetic or terrestrial geodetic observations. The signals of Earth core resonance are discussed, as well as tidal effects on Earth polar motion and on earthquake triggering. Hydrologic loading, be it ocean tides or subsurface water flows, is discussed. These signals compete with crustal deformation observations of earthquakes (e.g., Gorkha 2015) during interseismic periods, and on volcanoes (Elbrus, Caucasus). The instrumentation that is covered includes superconducting gravimeters, continuous seafloor gravimeters, interferometric tilt and strain meters, and GNSS networks. The articles give an up-to-date account of research in which the Earth tides are a benchmark signal for the sophisticated instrumentation mounted on satellites or the surface, observing time-variable signals of an evolving Earth. Scientists studying the earthquake cycle and geodetic monitoring will find useful material. For students in the geosciences, the collection offers a good overview of the broad spectrum of topics related to the Earth geodetic monitoring.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: " ... as soon as one has traversed the greater part of the wild sea, one comes upon such a huge quantity of ice that nowhere in the whole world has the like been known." "This ice is of a wonderful nature. It lies at times quite still, as one would expect, with openings or large fjords in it; but sometimes its movement is so strong and rapid as to equal that of a ship running before the wind, and it drifts against the wind as often as with it." Kongespeilet - 1250 A.D. ("The Mirror of Kings") Modern societies require increasing amounts influence on the water mass and on the resulting of scientific information about the environment total environment of the region; therefore, cer tain of its characteristics will necessarily be in whieh they live and work. For the seas this information must describe the air above the sea, included.
