Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book discusses the latest advances in the research and development, design, operation, and analysis of transportation systems and their corresponding infrastructures. It presents both theories and case studies on road and rail, aviation, and maritime transportation. Further, it covers a wealth of topics, from accident analysis, intelligent vehicle control, and human-error and safety issues to next-generation transportation systems, model-based design methods, simulation and training techniques, and many more. Special emphasis is placed on smart technologies and automation in transport, as well as the user-centered, ergonomic, and sustainable design of transportation systems. The book, which is based on the AHFE 2020 Virtual Conference on Human Aspects of Transportation, held on July 16–20, 2020, mainly addresses the needs of transportation system designers, industrial designers, human–computer interaction researchers, civil and control engineers, as well as vehicle system engineers. Moreover, it represents a timely source of information for transportation policy-makers and social scientists whose work involves traffic safety, management, and sustainability issues in transport.

This book was released on 2021-07-19 with total page 599 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Human Factors and Ergonomics have made a considerable contribution to the research, design, development, operation and analysis of transportation systems which includes road and rail vehicles and their complementary infrastructure, aviation and maritime transportation. This book presents recent advances in the Human Factors aspects of Transportation. These advances include accident analysis, automation of vehicles, comfort, distraction of drivers (understanding of distraction and how to avoid it), environmental concerns, in-vehicle systems design, intelligent transport systems, methodological developments, new systems and technology, observational and case studies, safety, situation awareness, skill development and training, warnings and workload. This book brings together the most recent human factors work in the transportation domain, including empirical research, human performance and other types of modeling, analysis, and development. The issues facing engineers, scientists, and other practitioners of human factors in transportation research are becoming more challenging and more critical. The common theme across these sections is that they deal with the intersection of the human and the system. Moreover, many of the chapter topics cross section boundaries, for instance by focusing on function allocation in NextGen or on the safety benefits of a tower controller tool. This is in keeping with the systemic nature of the problems facing human factors experts in rail and road, aviation and maritime research– it is becoming increasingly important to view problems not as isolated issues that can be extracted from the system environment, but as embedded issues that can only be understood as a part of an overall system.

Book Synopsis Apply Safety Risk and Reliability Analysis of Marine System by : Dr. Oladokun S. Olanrewaju
Download or read book Apply Safety Risk and Reliability Analysis of Marine System written by Dr. Oladokun S. Olanrewaju and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2013-10-17 with total page 461 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Contemporary time has seen alarming environmental revolt that is calls for attention and concern about the biosphere world, a condition that calls for need to use advantage of human improved knowledge and civilization in science engineering to develop proactive, efficient and predictive based system that meet reliability and sustainability requirement as well to reduce uncertainty components of system design. Proactive based philosophy under safety and environmental framework should be exercise on all level of system life cycle, including design, construction, operation and disposal. Selection of all element of the life cycle should be responsibly done and pollution impact of the system to the environment and community should be mitigated. The book present application of risk and reliability analysis to various cases of marine system and subsystem, application of risk method ranging from qualitative, quantitative to simulation and analytical approach is presented.
Book Synopsis SDG 14: Life Below Water by : Sergio Rossi
Download or read book SDG 14: Life Below Water written by Sergio Rossi and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-11-23 with total page 600 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book focuses, in seven chapters, on the perspectives and solutions that different research groups offer to try to address problems related to SDG 14: Life Below Water. The different objectives developed in SDG 14 are treated independently, with an attempt to give a global vision of the issues. The mechanism used to select the book's content was through an Artificial Intelligence program, choosing articles related to the topics by means of keywords. The program selected those articles, and those that were not related to the topic or did not focus on SDG 14 were discarded by a subject matter expert. Obviously, the selection was partial and the entire subject is not covered, but the final product gives a very solid idea of how to orient ourselves to delve deeper into the topic of SDG 14 using published chapters and articles. The AI program itself selected the text of these contributions to show the progress in different topics related to SDG 14. This mode of operation will allow specialists (and non-specialists) to collect useful information for their specific research purposes in a short period of time. At a time when information is essential in order to move quickly by providing concrete answers to complex problems, this type of approach will become essential for researchers, especially for a subject as vast as SDG 14.

Download or read book Crew Size and Maritime Safety written by Division on Engineering and Physical Sciences and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 1991-02-01 with total page 185 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: U.S. oceangoing vessels have half the crew size of 30 years ago, thanks to automation and mechanization in the shipping industry. But are reductions in crew size increasing the risk of vessel accidents? Crew Size and Maritime Safety explores how we can minimize risk without hindering technology, presenting the most thorough analysis available of key issues such as domestic versus foreign manning practices and safety performance; effect of crew size on crew fatigue, level of training, and ship maintenance; and modernizing the U.S. Coast Guard approach to crew size regulation. The volume features a trend analysis of 20 years of maritime safety data, analyzing U.S. and international laws and treaties concerning ship manning and making recommendations for improvements. In addition, it includes a model for setting optimum crew levels, based on systems engineering and tested with actual ships.
