Book Synopsis Assessing APEC's Progress by : Richard E. Feinberg
Download or read book Assessing APEC's Progress written by Richard E. Feinberg and published by Institute of Southeast Asian Studies. This book was released on 2001 with total page 326 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In its first ten years, what has the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) accomplished? Has the 21-member forum - including the United States, Japan, China, Mexico, and most of Southeast Asia -- fulfilled its promise? To answer these vital questions, leading scholars at APEC Study Centres from thirteen APEC member economies undertook detailed studies of such central issues as trade in services, investment policy, human resource development, food and agriculture, energy, and financial stability. The findings are summarized in a policy report, "Learning From Experience", that has received wide praise and close scrutiny from senior government officials. The report concludes that APEC has successfully established itself as a world-class forum that has contributed to the affirmation of a coherent set of positive ideas. However, the report notes shortcomings in each of the critical areas of trade and investment liberalization, economic and technical cooperation, and institutional structure, and offers remedial policy recommendations to improve APECs future performance. This volume contains both the policy report and the issue studies. It is the product of the APEC International Assessment Network (APIAN), a collaborative, independent project among participating APEC Study Centres to track and assess the design and execution of key APEC initiatives.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents novel approaches to further SouthSouth Cooperation (SSC) on a global scale. The evolving aid architecture and mounting development challenges demand an urgent and critical review of existing aid modalities, policy-making and forums for international cooperation. With the rise of emerging powers, we face an important question: ls the changing global order transforming the nature of development cooperation? Promoting equitable broad-based growth in order to alleviate poverty, calls for a new understanding of the principles of development assistance, good governance, transparency, ownership, and accountability. This book is published in English.

The editors include a distinguished former Secretary General of ASEAN and the leading academic analyst of ASEAN economic cooperation. They and their co-editors are to be congratulated for soliciting contributions from an outstanding and diverse group of authors, and then adding their highly authoritative commentary and analysis. A must read for anybody seriously interested in ASEAN.

Book Synopsis An Empirical Analysis of Population and Technological Progress by : Hisakazu Kato
Download or read book An Empirical Analysis of Population and Technological Progress written by Hisakazu Kato and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-01-13 with total page 59 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Analyzing the relation between population factors and technological progress is the main purpose of this book. With its declining population, Japan faces the simple but difficult problem of whether sustained economic growth can be maintained. Although there are many studies to investigate future economic growth from the point of view of labor force transition and the decreasing saving rate, technological progress is the most important factor to be considered in the future path of the Japanese economy. Technological progress is the result of innovations or improvements in the quality of human and physical capital. The increase in technological progress, which is measured as total factor productivity (TFP), is realized both by improvements in productivity in the short term and by economic developments in the long term. The author investigates the relationship of population factors and productivity, focusing on productivity improvement in the short term. Many discussions have long been held about the relation between population and technological progress. From the old Malthusian model to the modern endogenous economic growth models, various theories are developed in the context of growth theory. In this book, these discussions are summarized briefly, with an analysis of the quantitative relation between population and technological progress using country-based panel data in recent periods.

This book was released on 2023-07-24 with total page 359 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In economics, researchers have stated that there is a limit to growth because natural resources are finite. However, with technological developments and the discovery of new natural resource reserves, the limits on growth and development have begun to disappear. New technologies promoting energy efficiency provide growth opportunity in new directions, and the development of technologies have a positive effect on the environment. Perspectives on Ecological Degradation and Technological Progress explores the economic and social impacts of technological progress on environmental degradation from a multidisciplinary perspective. Other factors that may affect environmental degradation are analyzed, and indicators that may be important for the environment are determined. Covering topics such as economic growth, ecological degradation, and environmental violations, this premier reference source is an excellent resource for economists, ecologists, government officials, sociologists, environmental engineers and innovators, students and educators of higher education, librarians, researchers, and academicians.
