Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Water in Textiles and Apparel: Consumption, Footprint, and Life Cycle Assessment provides a thorough analysis of one of the most urgent issues facing the textiles industry. As water is essential to the textile production system, and as availability of water is reduced due to natural and anthropogenic factors, the industry must respond. With a thorough treatment of both life cycle assessment and water footprint perspectives, this book provides practical strategies for responsible water use across the textile supply chain. Readers will learn essential information from research and industry case studies that will help them understand the textile industry’s role in this issue. Combines different perspectives, life cycle assessment, government policies, businesses strategies, and case studies to provide a holistic view on the topic Addresses water consumption in every life cycle phase of textile production Explores emerging strategies for water conservation in the textiles sector

Download or read book Dyes and Pigments written by Ahmet Gürses and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-05-04 with total page 88 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book the authors go back to basics to describe the structural differences between dyes and pigments, their mechanisms of action, properties and applications. They set the scene by explaining the reasons behind these differences and show how dyes are predominately organic compounds that dissolve or react with substrates, whereas pigments are (predominantly) finely ground inorganic substances that are insoluble and therefore have a different mode of coloring. They also describe the role of functional groups and their effect on dyeing ability, contrasting this with the way in which pigments cause surface reflection (or light absorption) depending on their chemical and crystalline structure and relative particle size. The book explores the environmental impact of dyes in a section that covers the physical, chemical, toxicological, and ecological properties of dyes and how these are used to assess their effect on the environment and to estimate whether a given product presents a potential hazard. Lastly, it assesses how, in addition to their traditional uses in the textile, leather, paper, paint and varnish industries, dyes and pigments are indispensable in other fields such as microelectronics, medical diagnostics, and in information recording techniques.

This book was released on 2018-11-05 with total page 246 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Circular Economy in Textiles and Apparel: Processing, Manufacturing, and Design is the first book to provide guidance on this subject, presenting the tools for implementing this paradigm and their impact on textile production methods. Sustainable business strategies are also covered, as are new design methods that can help in the reduction of waste. Drawing on contributions from leading experts in industry and academia, this book covers every aspect of this increasingly important subject and speculates on future developments. Provides case studies on the circular economy in operation in the textiles industry Identifies challenges to implementation and areas where more research is needed Draws on both industrial innovation and academic research to explain an emerging topic with the potential to entirely change the way we make and use clothing
Book Synopsis Pollution Control in Textile Industry by : S.C. Bhatia
Download or read book Pollution Control in Textile Industry written by S.C. Bhatia and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2017-10-26 with total page 387 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Textile processing industry is characterised not only by the large volume of water required for various unit operations, but also by the variety of chemicals used for various processes. There is a long sequence of wet processing stages requiring input of water, chemical and energy and generating wastes at each stage. Any industrial activity causes pollution in one form or the other and so is the textile industry. The textile industry is a significant contributor to many national economies, encompassing both small and large-scale operations worldwide. Textile processing generates many waste streams, including liquid, gaseous and solid wastes, some of which may be hazardous. Several measures for pollution control in textile industry are discussed in detail including ‘End-of-pipe’ technologies for wastewater treatment. This book on pollution control in textile industry summarises various aspects of pollution control and is divided into 19 chapters. This edition discusses: enzymatic treatment of wastewater containing dyestuffs, degradation of toxic dyes, biological methods of removal of dyes from textile effluents, water conservation in textile industry, recovery of dyes and chromium from textile industry, zero liquid discharge in textile industry, pollution prevention in jute industry and wastes minimisation in textile industry. A unique feature of the book are the chapters on carbon foot print and energy conservation in textile industry. Finally the role of nanotechnology for the removal of dyes and effluents in also discussed.
