Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book the editors have been able to provide a snapshot of current research being undertaken in the Asia-Pacific region in regards to teacher self-efficacy beliefs. This includes specific focuses on inclusive teaching, professionalism, subject domains, collective efficacy as well as specific contexts of early childhood education and care, primary schools education, special needs schools and teacher education. This allows the reader to begin to develop an understanding about the complexity of teacher self-efficacy as well as the development and relationship between self-efficacy and other theoretical constructs and concepts. The book begins with an overall summary of research in the Asia-Pacific region before moving to a specific focus on research in different countries. All of the chapters also provide hope to the reader about the possibilities of understanding and supporting teachers and schools beliefs to enhance teacher behaviour. Through the implementation of teacher self-efficacy beliefs into educational contexts, teacher education programmes and professional development programmes, there is strong hope that the outcomes of education systems in supporting all students in their learning can be achieved. By allowing teachers to develop their own sources of efficacy and supporting these through all stages of career development, all children can be supported in their own learning.

Book Synopsis The Color of Teaching by : June Gordon
Download or read book The Color of Teaching written by June Gordon and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2002-11-01 with total page 146 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of the major concerns in education at present is how to recruit and attract more teachers from ethnic minorities. In an attempt to move beyond the superficial and simplistic responses as to why these students are not entering teaching this book presents in-depth interviews with over two hundred people from four ethnic groups: African Americans, Native Americans, Asian Americans and Latinos. These interviewees, many of them teachers or education professionals, express their attitude towards teaching and their understanding of why others may not choose teaching as a career. One of the most significant and surprising findings is that, regardless of academic or socio-economic standing, students from these ethnic groups tend not to be encouraged to enter the teaching profession by their own families communities and peers. The book concludes with a discussion of programmatic changes and calls for the reconceptualization of the role of teachers. Such changes can only arise out of a fundamental change in attitude of communities of color towards teaching which must be led by teachers themselves.
Book Synopsis The Politics of Professionalism by : Gary McCulloch
Download or read book The Politics of Professionalism written by Gary McCulloch and published by A&C Black. This book was released on 2000-05-01 with total page 145 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many commentators feared that the Education Reform Act of 1988 sounded the death knell for teacher professionalism in Britain. More than a decade later, however, professionalism appears to have staged a miraculous recovery: David Blunkett says that 'it is back at the very heart of teaching'. But what kind of professionalism is this? In whose interest is its recovery. and what effects will it have? And how does this development relate to changes in edict countries and other professions? The Politics of Professionalism provides authoritative answers to these questions. It does so by setting the debates in their historical context and by drawing on detailed research findings on teachers' experience of work arid education, especially the curriculum, in the current era. In the process, this book makes a major contribution to our understanding of the politics, history and sociology of teaching and the other professions.
