Part One features subject-specific chapters which deal with the UK statutory regime after 2020 as well as the impact of Brexit on VAT, customs and excise duties and State Aid legislation. Part Two is split into country chapters dealing with the tax implications in the single jurisdictions (the United Kingdom and EU Member States) for cross-border investments between the United Kingdom and the EU and for UK-EU cross-border reorganisations. This book is essential reading for tax professionals advising businesses trading in the United Kingdom or in the European Union, but also tax managers of those businesses. Tax Implications of Brexit includes contributions from Barbara Belgrano, Conor Quigley QC, Julian Ghosh QC, Kelly Stricklin-Coutinho, Nicola Saccardo, Roderick Cordara QC, Timothy Lyons QC and a plethora of highly respected tax experts from EU jurisdictions.

Book Synopsis Where Does Multinational Investment Go with Territorial Taxation? Evidence from the UK by : Ms.Li Liu
Download or read book Where Does Multinational Investment Go with Territorial Taxation? Evidence from the UK written by Ms.Li Liu and published by International Monetary Fund. This book was released on 2018-01-13 with total page 49 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 2009, the United Kingdom changed from a worldwide to a territorial tax system, abolishing dividend taxes on foreign repatriation from many low-tax countries. This paper assesses the causal effect of territorial taxation on real investments, using a unique dataset for multinational affiliates in 27 European countries and employing the difference-in-difference approach. It finds that the territorial reform has increased the investment rate of UK multinationals by 15.7 percentage points in low-tax countries. In the absence of any significant investment reduction elsewhere, the findings represent a likely increase in total outbound investment by UK multinationals.
Book Synopsis Taxation, Government Spending and Economic Growth by : Philip Booth
Download or read book Taxation, Government Spending and Economic Growth written by Philip Booth and published by London Publishing Partnership. This book was released on 2016-11-01 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Amidst the debates about ‘austerity’ a number of vital debates in public finance have been sidelined. Because the reductions in government spending – small though they have been so far- have been designed to reduce the government’s borrowing requirement, there has been little discussion of whether the size of the state should be reduced in order to facilitate long-run reductions in the burden of taxation. This book traces the history of the growth of the size of the state over the last 100 years whilst also making international comparisons. There is a particular focus on recent and projected future developments which shows that, though the total level of government spending has not decreased significantly in recent years, there has been a big redirection of spending from some areas to others. The authors then examine the evidence on the relationship between taxation and economic growth. As well as reviewing recent literature, they also undertake new modelling that higher taxes are detrimental for growth. In the final part of the book, the whole UK tax system is reconsidered in a proper economic framework. The UK has one of the world’s most complex tax systems and its incoherence has increased over the last five years. Sweeping reforms are proposed to the system which wold involve abolishing around 20 taxes and the development of a simple, predictable tax system based on principles that should gain wide acceptance.

Book Synopsis The Politics of Corporate Taxation in the European Union by : Claudio Radaelli
Download or read book The Politics of Corporate Taxation in the European Union written by Claudio Radaelli and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-01-11 with total page 270 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study explores the formation of the European Union's tax policy and asks why member states did not raise objections to it. The author's analysis is enriched by two further levels of inquiry. Firstly, he examines the 'Europeanization' of domestic tax policy in Italy and the UK, asking how domestic policy has changed and what is meant by 'Europeanization'. Secondly, he puts the European Union tax policy in the wider context of tax globalization. Will the liberalization of capital movement, tax havens and the flexibility of multinationals in managing their taxable incomes wreck the European Union's fragile tax policies?
