Book Synopsis Psychological Hermeneutics for Biblical Themes and Texts by : J. Harold Ellens
Download or read book Psychological Hermeneutics for Biblical Themes and Texts written by J. Harold Ellens and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2012-05-03 with total page 354 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For centuries scholars have been developing ways of studying the bible, through exegesis, historical critique, literary critique, form criticism, and narrative analysis. During the last half century new theoretical approaches have come to the fore. Psychological Hermeneutics takes as its starting point the text itself, and its context - the dynamics of the human document created, the person(s) who authored the text, the original audience for which it was intended, the subsequent audiences to which it spoke, and the factors that were at play behind, in, and in front of the text. The contributions to this volume examine the growth of Psychological Hermeneutics as a discipline within biblical studies. The book is structured in two parts. The first assesses the approach taken by Wayne G. Rollins, one of the pioneers of this field. The second provides applications of Rollins' approach. The result is a book which presents a state-of-the-art survey of the discipline and development of Psychological Hermeneutics over the last thirty years.
Book Synopsis Tefillin and Mezuzot from Qumran by : Ariel Feldman
Download or read book Tefillin and Mezuzot from Qumran written by Ariel Feldman and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2022-04-04 with total page 201 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph studies ancient tefillin (also known as phylacteries) and mezuzot found in the Caves of Qumran. Most of these miniature texts were published by the end of 1970s and thus have long been available to scholars. And yet in several respects, these tiny fragments remain an unfinished business. A close scrutiny of their editions reveals a presence of texts that have not been fully accounted for. These fall into three categories. First, there are multiple tefillin and mezuzot that contain legible fragments which their editors were unable to identify. Second, several tefillin and mezuzot feature imprints of letters that have not been deciphered. Third, there are texts which were provisionally classified as tefillin and mezuzot yet left unread. This monograph offers a detailed study of these unidentified and undeciphered texts. It thus sheds new light on the contents of ancient tefillin and mezuzot and on the scribal practices involved in their preparation.

Book Synopsis Return to Joy: The Bible's Fast Track Back to God by : Doug Martin
Download or read book Return to Joy: The Bible's Fast Track Back to God written by Doug Martin and published by Truth Book Publishers. This book was released on 2014-05-15 with total page 168 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The premise of this book is that God has designed a roadmap for Christians who have lost their way, so that they can return to Him and to a life of clean joy without regret, in the context of grace. Using many different scriptures and principles the author has spelled out the plan for return, which he says will work for any backslidden Christian who faithfully follow it. But the way back is not easy, which is why "Return To Joy" is written in a simple step-by-step style, to allow seekers to find their way back to God at their own pace. This is a self-help manual, not a great theological treatise. Anyone who can read and understand simple English should be able to use this book to help them get back to God and return to His joy.
