Book excerpt: Since the dawn of time man has been scribbling his stories on walls and crude parchments, which have been rolled and tucked into crevices for future minds to discover and read. It seems we have a compulsion to share our stories with other people. For years the author has initiated small efforts of writing personal articles and journals, which were solely his own use and enjoyment, to be shared with family and friends. One day, while on the internet, he stumbled into a community of writers. This discovery changed his understanding of “free time.” The community provided an opportunity to produce literary work and post it for others to discover and read. Since the first day he wandered into the site, he has posted a number of short stories, articles, and even a few poems. Others read them and enjoyed them. Thus, he was encouraged to continue to write and post his work. This collection of tales is an assembly of a number of those stories.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Winner of the 2021 Global Humanities Translation Prize Among Murathan Mungan’s signature works, Cenk Hikâyeleri (Valor: Stories) has long been considered a milestone of twentieth-century Turkish literature. The six short stories in the collection reflect the author’s multiethnic background (which includes Kurdish, Arab, and Turkish heritage) and represent his lush poetics, literary breadth, and sociopolitical commitments. Valor reimagines Shahmaran, a mythical half‐human, half‐snake figure that commonly appears in the folklore of Turkey’s southeastern provinces. Legend interweaves with the contemporary realities of ethnicity, religious dogma, gender, and sexuality. Uncovering hidden narratives within a rich and complicated culture, Mungan’s stories depict self-realization and sexual awakening as they showcase one of Turkey’s most popular literary voices.

They heard an enemy fighter fire off an entire AK-47 magazine in the direction of the SEALs, but it was completely ineffective. The SEALs dropped onto one knee and returned fire; one SEAL only managed to get one round off before his M4 jammed. Then a second SEALs M4 jammed, and the two SEALs worked frantically to clear the stoppage. The SEALs cleared their stoppages and then started to return fire. The first insurgent ran straight at them; he was red-dotted on his chest and all it took was a burst of fire for him to drop to the frozen ground. The next insurgent popped up moving right and only made it a couple of steps before he was swiftly dropped. A third occupant tried to escape via the back of the ridge and was soon picked off and sent tumbling down the mountain side with a bullet in his head. From the densely packed warren of walled compounds that doubled neatly as enemy bunkers, lush orchards, and high up in the rugged mountainous border area between Afghanistan and Pakistan. U.S. Navy SEALs have fought some deadly battles paying the ultimate sacrifice. Locked in bloody combat with a fierce and battle hardened enemy in a dangerous and harsh environment.

Book Synopsis Classic Legendary Hero Stories by : Stephen Vincent Brennan
Download or read book Classic Legendary Hero Stories written by Stephen Vincent Brennan and published by Globe Pequot. This book was released on 2006 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: History is filled with myth. Heroes and icons from our distant past are no longer remembered by people who actually experienced them. They are remembered by the stories passed down from generation to generation. After so many centuries have passed, it is often difficult to discern who was truly alive, and who lived only in the minds of the storytellers. Fictional beings are no less capable than real-life heroes of teaching society a lesson, or exemplifying what the reader believes is right and just, or downright evil. Whether or not the characters in a story were ever alive is a decision each reader will have to make on their own. Regardless of when or where the characters may have lived, each story in this collection will share with the reader some moral lesson that applies to the world today. Classic Legendary Hero Stories includes characters from a variety of places and time periods, including: Gilgamesh; Young David (Goliath's foe); Odysseus; Beowulf; El Cid; Richard Lionheart; Robin Hood; King Arthur; and Rama the Indian Prince.
