Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When one thinks of transformation, it usually signifies change on a multiplicity of levels, which is what this book represents to me on a personal level. It is not meant to be an autobiography, but rather the view of life from the perspective of a male stripper reflecting on the events that played a significant role in the development of me as a person. I have learned over time that everything happens for a reason. We are not always privileged to know the why or even see that reason, but somehow it is always there. I have worked very hard to get to where I am now, and let me tell you that nothing came easy. I faced many challenges and made many mistakes along the way. Through much drive and determination, as well as a host of fortuitous occurrences, I wish to pass along to you, my reader, how I overcame adversity, became a successful member of society, and basically beat the odds. What a transformation of life I never thought possible and I thank GOD every day for what I have!

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: My name is Andy, and I'm a male stripper. Throughout the years, I guesstimate to have performed at well over six hundred shows. That includes male revues, bachelorette parties, stripograms, private one on ones, office visits, just about any event that your mind can dream up. Some of these tales are insane; some are even unbelievable at times. While writing this memoir, more than once, I'd sit back and take a break, wondering, "Did that fucking happen?" When I embarked upon the task of writing out all these adventures, it was difficult for me to rack through my brain and recall details that I believed, at one point, would never erase from my memory. While it does sound tempting to add a little sugar and spice to an already juicy tale, I’m old school in the sense that, to me, nothing tastes better than the real thing. For my selfish reasons alone, I needed to compose these stories as accurately as possible, as the ‘wow’ factor never trumps authenticity in my book.Without further ado, sit back, pour yourself a hot cup of joe, and enjoy the show. These, my dear friends, are my Tales From The Strip…

Book excerpt: This book offers an account of an unprecedented North American study of contemporary female and male strip shows. It particularly focuses on the contradictory sex roles, cultural positions, and performance practices of 'straight' strip shows during their second heyday in the early 1990s. Katherine Liepe-Levinson's research took her to over seventy different strip bars, clubs, theatres and sex emporiums ranging from elaborate lap-dancing and couch-dancing 'gentlemen's' clubs in New York, Houston, and San Francisco; to Peoria's onetime duplex cabaret where women strip for men downstairs, and men for women upstairs; to the nightclubs of Montreal where female and male performers displayed the 'Full Monty'. Liepe-Levinson's intriguing, comprehensive study concentrates on the cultural and theatrical elements of the strip shows themselves including the geographic locations and interior designs of the clubs, the choreography and costumes of the dancers and the all-important participation of the audience. She draws upon a variety of methodologies as well as interviews with performers to explore how the strip show's cultural and theatrical aspects simultaneously uphold and break traditional sex roles. Her findings readily complicate several of the most prominent and prevalent theories about sexual representation, gender and desire.

With over-eager, over-sexed female fans in abundance and baby oil by the gallon, the guys are looking forward to some fun.... Sally's inhibitions are not.

Book excerpt: Terry Ryan was poised to take the hockey world by storm when he was selected eighth overall by the Montreal Canadiens in the 1995 NHL draft, their highest draft pick in a decade. Expected to go on to become a hockey star, Ryan played a total of eight NHL games for the Canadiens, scoring no goals and no assists: not exactly the career he, or anyone else, was expecting. Though Terry's NHL career wasn't long, he experienced a lot and has no shortage of hilarious and fascinating revelations about life in pro hockey on and off the ice. In Tales of a First-Round Nothing, he recounts fighting with Tie Domi, partying with rock stars, and everything in between. Ryan tells it like it is, detailing his rocky relationship with Michel Therrien, head coach of the Canadiens, and explaining what life is like for a man who was unprepared to have his career over so soon.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Sight & Sound Book of the Year Jez Stewart charts the course of this extraordinarily fertile area of British film from early experiments with stop-motion and the flourishing of animated drawings during WWI. He reveals how the rockier interwar period set the shape of the industry in enduring ways, and how creatives like Len Lye and Lotte Reiniger brought art to advertising and sponsored films, building a foundation for such distinctive talents as Bob Godfrey, Alison De Vere and George Dunning to unleash their independent visions in the age of commercial TV. Stewart highlights the integral role of women in the industry, the crucial boost delivered by the arrival of Channel 4, the emergence of online animation and much more. The book features 'close-up' analyses of key animators such as Lancelot Speed and Richard Williams, as well as more thematic takes on art, politics and music. It builds a framework for better appreciating Britain's landmark contributions to the art of animation, including Halas and Batchelor's Animal Farm (1954), Dunning's Yellow Submarine (1968) and the creations of Aardman Animations.
