Two young brothers make a frightening discovery about the neighbors. Do robots secretly want to rule us all? A scientist goes to extremes to change the future of mankind. But is it possible to change our destiny? Tales from another dimension is a strange and fantastical collection of ten short stories. Robbie Sheerin is inspired by classic Sci-fi, invoking nightmarish twists and turns with each story. Travel to another dimension and meet strange characters, sometimes human, and at times not so human. They will make you question the solidity of the earth and mankind. Explore prejudice, fear, imagination, kindness, empathy, and human frailty. "The Truth Comes in Storms is wonderfully evocative -and the twist caught me completely unawares. Sheerin is a writer to keep an eye on!"- Rob Yescombe. Writer of the movie "Outside the Wire" These stories are strong echoes of the classic science fiction of the 1950's, and bring back fond memories of the Twilight Zone.-Noel Chidwick. Founder and editor of the award winning sci-fi magazine Shoreline of Infinity ....Sheerin's Sci-if shorts engage the mind and senses with dread and wonder at the same time. What happens on the moon....stays on the moon, even it's from different planets.- ARZONO Publishing "With a voice of clarity and surprise, Robbie Sheerin is well worth the quick and wondrous read each of his stories provides, the insight into our humanity (or inhumanity) they present, and the lasting impression they leave. Indulge and entertain yourself!" - Jason J. Marchi, author of Venus Remembered with Ray Bradbury and the Barnes & Noble recognized bestseller The Legend of Hobbomock: The Sleeping Giant. Robbie Sheerin's insightful story "The Protector" is a chilling tale that underscores humanity's most troubling shortcomings. At its core, it reminds us that we must remain open-minded and compassionate toward those who are "not like us" or suffer the consequences..... ..."The Future You Imagine, Doctor, Is Not The Future Of The Future" is inventive and imaginative. In my opinion, all tales about our future should be appropriately apocalyptic. They should shake the foundations of our hopes and dreams .....- Leith MacArthur, author of "The Death of Harry Crow", from The William Snow Series of thrillers.

Book excerpt: In a world with no power, chaos soon descends. A powerful look at the disintegration of society in the wake of a massive and mysterious outage that has knocked out all modern amenities. Fifteen-year-old Emma has moved house with her ex-Marine mother and younger brother. It's a brand-new condo building, which explains the semi-regular power outages, as workers complete the units around them. So Emma isn't particularly concerned when the latest blackout hits just as they are preparing to leave town on a long weekend camping trip. But then the car won't start, and their cellphones appear dead -- and all the cars outside their building seem to be stalled in a long traffic jam ... In the midst of what appears to be a massive power outage, with their camping gear packed and ready, Emma and her family canoe over to the islands, just offshore, to wait it out. But while they land on an isolated island, with a relatively hidden site, they are far from safe, as people become increasingly desperate to find food and shelter. And as the days pass, and the power remains out, the threat of violence becomes all too real.

Book Synopsis Time Machine Tales by : Paul J. Nahin
Download or read book Time Machine Tales written by Paul J. Nahin and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-12-24 with total page 383 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains a broad overview of time travel in science fiction, along with a detailed examination of the philosophical implications of time travel. The emphasis of this book is now on the philosophical and on science fiction, rather than on physics, as in the author's earlier books on the subject. In that spirit there are, for example, no Tech Notes filled with algebra, integrals, and differential equations, as there are in the first and second editions of TIME MACHINES. Writing about time travel is, today, a respectable business. It hasn’t always been so. After all, time travel, prima facie, appears to violate a fundamental law of nature; every effect has a cause, with the cause occurring before the effect. Time travel to the past, however, seems to allow, indeed to demand, backwards causation, with an effect (the time traveler emerging into the past as he exits from his time machine) occurring before its cause (the time traveler pushing the start button on his machine’s control panel to start his trip backward through time). Time Machine Tales includes new discussions of the advances by physicists and philosophers that have appeared since the publication of TIME MACHINES in 1999, examples of which are the chapters on time travel paradoxes. Those chapters have been brought up-to-date with the latest philosophical thinking on the paradoxes.
Book Synopsis The World of Dew and Other Stories by : Julian MortimerSmith
Download or read book The World of Dew and Other Stories written by Julian MortimerSmith and published by Indiana University Press. This book was released on 2021-04-06 with total page 147 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Imagine a world populated by hideous trolls, time-traveling scientists, and intergalactic freighter captains—with smartphones and social media. The World of Dew and Other Stories, chosen by Michelle Pretorius as the 2020 Blue Light Books Prize winner, invites readers into 18 different universes that have unexpected resonances with our own modern life. While these tales are unabashedly sci-fi and fantasy, Julian Mortimer Smith approaches each at a curious angle. Ghosts are cataloged using a Pokémon Go–like app, a soldier has to get enough upvotes on social media before he is allowed to take a shot, and a golden age of cooperation begins as societies around the world prepare for a looming pandemic of blindness. In addition to featuring stories that have appeared in some of the world's top speculative fiction outlets, The World of Dew and Other Stories also includes five new stories published here for the first time. These tales are sometimes terrifying, sometimes touching, sometimes provocative, and occasionally very silly. They function both as windows through which readers can glimpse vast universes waiting to be explored and as mirrors reflecting our own reality back at us in a strange and unfamiliar light.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Extra-Dimensionality is the key to understanding everything... By everything, we mean all the areas in which we have been deceived to believe the physical world is the beginning and end of all things. "The Extra-Dimensionals" is the stark revelation of where Alien Visitors are actually coming from and to where they are returning. Understanding Extra-Dimensionality is the way to unfold the truth of the paranormal, the spiritual and even the physical world. These Visitors have been with us since time immemorial and their messages to us are everywhere around us. The truth will eventually explode into our field of vision. If we refuse to listen then we are only delaying the inevitable to a time when an alarm will be sounded that is so loud that it will consume everything upon the Earth. Once the black swans arrive, once we awaken to numerous mile long shadows cast by these ancient ships-hanging over our major cities, soundless, motionless, maddening; it will be too late. It is in these final moments that we can still, with open minds and clear hearts, decipher that which has been intentionally hidden from humanity for so long-the truth of Extra-Dimensionality. That comprehension will, in turn, illuminate every hidden truth of our material existence. Then, we will find that for the first time, we will finally have the key to understanding everything.
Book Synopsis The Extra-Dimensional Universe by : John R. Violette
Download or read book The Extra-Dimensional Universe written by John R. Violette and published by Hampton Roads Publishing. This book was released on 2005-05-12 with total page 271 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: UFO sightings and alien abductions, mystical experiences and psychic phenomena, the near-death and the out-of-body experience--millions of ordinary people around the world report experiencing these events at some point in their lives. Yet, because there is no accepted scientific theory to explain the paranormal, the events--and the people who report them--are ridiculed and dismissed. The problem isn't the people, it's the science. While some cutting-edge researchers and quantum physicists are speculating more frequently that these experiences are caused by something beyond our world--some kind of higher-dimensional reality--any proposed extra-dimensional theories put forth thus far have lacked one key ingredient--expanded consciousness. Extra-Dimensional Universe presents an expanded framework of space, time, and consciousness. This, for the first time, explains how paranormal phenomena can exist. Violette's landscape-altering theory is fully compatible with all the findings of modern scientific research--and ancient wisdom traditions--and clearly explains the science of paranormal events such as UFOs and abductions, mystical and psychic phenomena, and the near-death experience. Violette even reveals that expanded consciousness is the key to understanding why some people experience psychic phenomena such as UFOs or ghosts when others don't. An advancement of the classic theories of R. M. Bucke and P. D. Ouspensky, Extra-Dimensional Universe is itself destined to become a classic of the science of spirituality.
Book Synopsis Old Tales and New Truths by : James Roy King
Download or read book Old Tales and New Truths written by James Roy King and published by SUNY Press. This book was released on 1992-01-01 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This guidebook to the Bright-Shadow World develops three closely related issues. The first is the position that fairytales and folktales are of value today because they encourage the growth of capabilities important in our postmodern world. Each of us, like the fairytale hero, sets out on his/her own quests, seeks his/her own identity, faces his/her own dilemmas with few resources but wit, imagination, and a certain power of improvisation. King develops the implications of this situation for such common fairytale problems as learning to read the world productively; navigating various kinds of "edges;" exploiting power sources; developing highly personal moral commitments; problem solving; and data collecting. The second concern of this book is with the development of a system for analyzing narrative structure. The formula offered here involves an examination of interactions among actors, physical settings, lines of force, and power sources as a narrative moves toward its denouement. This system facilitates the classifying, and contrasting of narratives, and illuminates the structure of both narrative and lived experience. Finally, this book is concerned with myth-making or world-making processes. It is shown that traditional narrative actually points to and delineates another dimension of existence (here called "the Bright-Shadow World") that operates by rules of its own and may be penetrated by individuals from our ordinary world. Inferences about the Bright-Shadow World drawn from traditional narrative are described and evaluated.
