Der Inhalt dieser Hausarbeit beschäftigt sich zunächst mit dem Begriff System und gibt einen Einblick in die Entwicklungen der Systemtheorie. Zu erwähnen ist, dass auf einen biografischen Bezug Luhmanns verzichtet wird. Er hat sich in den letzten 30 Jahren mit kaum einer anderen Theorie derart beschäftigt und um seinen Ansatz besser verstehen zu können, scheint es sinnvoller systemtheoretische Ansätze zu erklären, auf die sich Luhmanns Theorie bezieht. Der zweite Abschnitt behandelt dann die Kerngedanken seiner Systemtheorie und beschreibt die wichtigsten Schlüsselbegriffe. Darauf folgen Ausschnitte für die Bedeutung der Theorie für die Soziale Arbeit. Es werden drei Kernaspekte thematisiert und zum Ende ein kurzes Fazit.

Deshalb werde ich mich in dieser Arbeit eingehender mit der Systemtheorie und dem systemischen Denken befassen und wie dieses auf die Soziale Arbeit übertragen werden kann. Fragen, die mich dabei beschäftigen, sind unter anderem was man unter systemischem Denken verstehen kann, was die Systemtheorie ausmacht, was soziale Systeme sind und welche Menschen sich mit dem systemischen Denken im Bereich der Soziologie auseinandergesetzt haben. Desweiteren befasse ich mich eingehender mit dem Anwendungsbereich der systemischen Ansätze in der Sozialen Arbeit. Um aber überhaupt in dieses breitgefächerte Thema des systemischen Denkens, beziehungsweise der systemischen Ansätze, einsteigen zu können, scheint es mir von grundlegender Bedeutung erst einmal einen Überblick über die aktuelle Theoriediskussion der Sozialen Arbeit zu geben. Dabei versuche ich zu erklären, was man unter Theorien überhaupt verstehen kann, welche Unterschiede es beispielsweise zwischen Alltagstheorie und wissenschaftlicher Theorie gibt und warum diese überhaupt notwendig sind für die Soziale Arbeit.

Yet the debate about its nature as a historical phenomenon and its value as a term of historical analysis continues to rage with ever greater intensity, each major attempt to resolve it producing different patterns of support, dissent, and even hostility, from academic colleagues. Nevertheless, a number of developments since 1945 not only complicate the methodological and definitional issues even further, but make it ever more desirable that politicians, journalists, lawyers, and the general public can turn to "experts" for a heuristically useful and broadly consensual definition of the term. These developments include: the emergence of a highly prolific European New Right, the rise of radical right populist parties, the flourishing of ultra-nationalist movements in the former Soviet empire, the radicalization of some currents of Islam and Hinduism into potent political forces, and the upsurge of religious terrorism. Most monographs and articles attempting to establish what is meant by fascism are written from a unilateral authoritative perspective, and the intense academic controversy the term provokes has to be gleaned from reviews and conference discussions. The uniqueness of this book is that it provides exceptional insights into the cut-and-thrust of the controversy as it unfolds on numerous fronts simultaneously, clarifying salient points of difference and moving towards some degree of consensus. Book excerpt: Anthropologists have written a great deal about the coastal adaptations and seafaring traditions of Pacific Islanders, but have had much less to say about the significance of rivers for Pacific island culture, livelihood and identity. The authors of this collection seek to fill that gap in the ethnographic record by drawing attention to the deep historical attachments of island communities to rivers, and the ways in which those attachments are changing in response to various forms of economic development and social change. In addition to making a unique contribution to Pacific island ethnography, the authors of this volume speak to a global set of issues of immense importance to a world in which water scarcity, conflict, pollution and the degradation of riparian environments afflict growing numbers of people. Several authors take a political ecology approach to their topic, but the emphasis here is less on hydro-politics than on the cultural meaning of rivers to the communities we describe. How has the cultural significance of rivers shifted as a result of colonisation, development and nation-building?
