This book was released on 1972 with total page 388 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Poly-(p-phenylenepyromellitamic acid)s have been synthesized over the weight average molecular weight range from 8,000 to 22,000 by reaction of pyromellitic dianhydride and p-phenylenediamine in dimethylformamide. The polymers were recovered as amorphous yellow powders having planar dimensions of 3-4 x 1-2 [mu]m with thicknesses of 0.1-0.2 [mu]m and contained 20-30% associated dimethylformamide. Consumption of reactants and attainment of the ultimate molecular weight of the polymer was found to occur within one minute. Thermogravimetry of the solid poly(amic acid)s was used in a method developed to determine the amount of associated dimethylformamide, to study the cyclization of poly(amic acid) to polyimide, and to study the decomposition of the polyimide in air and in argon. Viscometry and light scattering measurements showed that dimethylformamide is a poor solvent for the polymer. The intrinsic viscosity - weight average molecular weight relationship was found to be [eta] = 25.22 x 10−4 M̄[subscript w]0·563 The poly(p-phenylene pyromellitamic acid)s were also characterized by ultraviolet, visible, near infrared, and infrared spectroscopy; differential thermal analysis; vapor pressure osmometry; and gel permeation chromatography"--Abstract, leaf ii.

Download or read book Synthesis and Characterization of Soluble Poly(p-phenylene) Derivatives Made Via Ni(0)-catalyzed Coupling of Aromatic Dichlorides written by Anthony Joseph Pasquale and published by . This book was released on 1998 with total page 206 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The synthesis and characterization of new aromatic dichloride monomers containing benzoyl and phenylsulfonyl pendant groups and the corresponding polymers made via Ni(O)-catalyzed coupling polymerization are described. This work is an outgrowth of the previously described synthesis of poly(benzoyl-1,4-phenylene) from the Ni(O)-catalyzed coupling polymerization of 2,5-dichlorobenzophenone. The new monomers containing benzoyl pendant groups were synthesized by the Friedel-Crafts reaction of 2,5-dichlorobenzoyl chloride and substituted benzenes to give structures that were substituted at the para position on the pendant benzene ring. The substituents include fluorine, methyl, ethyl, and isopropyl.

Book Synopsis Inorganic and Organometallic Polymers by : Vadapalli Chandrasekhar
Download or read book Inorganic and Organometallic Polymers written by Vadapalli Chandrasekhar and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2005-01-18 with total page 349 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book has its origins in courses taught by the author to various und- graduate and graduate students at the Indian Institute of Technology, K- pur, India. The diversity of inorganic chemistry and its impact on polymer chemistry has been profound. This subject matter has grown considerably in the last decade and the need to present it in a coherent manner to young minds is a pedagogic challenge. The aim of this book is to present to the students an introduction to the developments in Inorganic and - ganometallic polymers. This book is divided into eight chapters. Chapter 1 provides a general overview on the challenges of Inorganic polymer synthesis. This is f- lowed by a survey of organic polymers and also includes some basic f- tures of polymers. Chapters 3-8 deal with prominent families of inorganic and organometallic polymers. Although the target group of this book is the undergraduate and graduate students of chemistry, chemical engineering and materials science it is also hoped that chemists and related scientists in industry would find this book useful. I am extremely thankful to my wife Sudha who not only encouraged me throughout but also drew all the Figures and Schemes of this book. I also thank my children Adithya and Aarathi for their constant concern on the progress of this book. I express my acknowledgment to the editorial team of Springer-Verlag for their cooperation.
