This book was released on 1992-12-18 with total page 354 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Culture of Nonsalmonid Freshwater Fishes, 2nd Edition presents an expanded, updated description of important techniques and practices for the culture of some of the most widely cultured nonsalmonid species used for human consumption (channel catfish, tilapia, carp) for stocking freshwater bodies for recreational fishing (bass, walleye, striped bass), and for bait (minnows). This new edition features the latest information on spawning, nutritional requirements, special culture requirements, tolerance to various water quality parameters, and types of diseases that can occur. It is an essential book for all aquaculturalists, agency fishery biologists, and students interested in freshwater aquaculture.

Book Synopsis Biology and Culture of Percid Fishes by : Patrick Kestemont
Download or read book Biology and Culture of Percid Fishes written by Patrick Kestemont and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-10-15 with total page 897 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This extensive work focuses on an important group of temperate freshwater fish, approaching the topic from the perspectives of both biology and aquaculture. It compiles the latest research on fish belonging to the Percidae family and describes in detail all biological aspects relevant to the culture of different species, including ecology, reproductive physiology, feeding and nutrition, genetics, immunology, stress physiology and behavior. It also considers commercial fish production and fish farming topics, such as protocols for induction of gonad maturation, spawning, incubation and larval rearing. Expert contributors not only provide a critical peer review of scientific literature but also original research data, and identify effective practical techniques. The book features chapters on systematics, ecology and evolution, on development, metabolism and husbandry of early life stages and on growth, metabolism, behavior and husbandry of juvenile and grow-out stages. Furthermore, the authors consider genetic improvement and domestication, as well as diseases and health management, crucial to the readers' understanding of these fish and how they can be cultured. Both researchers of percid fish biology and aquaculture professionals who are considering intensive and pond culture of percid fishes will value this timely and comprehensive handbook.)

Book Synopsis Yellow Perch, Walleye, and Sauger: Aspects of Ecology, Management, and Culture by : John Clay Bruner
Download or read book Yellow Perch, Walleye, and Sauger: Aspects of Ecology, Management, and Culture written by John Clay Bruner and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-11-21 with total page 332 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Walleye, one of the most sought-after species of freshwater sport fishes in North America, has demonstrated appreciable declines in their numbers from their original populations since the beginning of the 20th century. Similarly, Yellow Perch, once the most commonly caught sport fish and an important commercial species in North America, have also shown declines. Compiling up-to-date information on the biology and management of Walleye, Sauger, and Yellow Perch, including research on systematics, genetics, physiology, ecology, movement, population dynamics, culture, recent case histories, and management practices, will be of interest to managers, researchers, and students who deal with these important species, particularly in light of habitat alterations, population shifts, and other biotic and abiotic factors related to a changing climate.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The analysis of intra-group correlations between LS and BW at representative intervals yields no consistent support for the hypothesis that lower BW is associated with longer LS. Indeed, among male Wistar rats and C57BL/6J and A/J mice followed since weaning on AL diets, the data suggested that relatively higher BW across the adult LS was generally associated with longer life. Even when the diet was restricted by EOD or RES regimens, this pattern of positive correlations between LS and BW persisted for the C57BL/6J and A/J strains when relative ages were analyzed. However, when BW at absolute ages were correlated with LS, support for the positive relationship between BW and LS was not as forthcoming. When AL groups were assessed beginning at later ages (> 10 months), the pattern of positive correlations was very evident for the Wistar rats--heavier rats tended to liver longer. This pattern was also evident among AL-fed C57BL/6J mice followed since 6 months, but was lost in the 10-month group in this strain. Among A/J mice on AL diets, the pattern became somewhat negative when followed at 6 and 10 months of age. However, among both C57BL/6J and A/J mice placed on EOD diets at 6 and 10 months of age, the pattern clearly tended toward the positive.

Download or read book Percid Fishes written by John F. Craig and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2008-04-30 with total page 371 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The percid fishes (or perch family) comprise many species including the perch, pikeperch, yellow perch, walleye and the darters. These species are of great ecological and economic importance, being important components of the freshwater ecosystem and recreational and commercial fisheries. Percid Fishes covers aspects such as systematics, morphology, biology, ecology, diseases and parasites and the economic importance of percid fisheries. Special emphasis is placed within the book on the complex relationship between this family of fishes and their environment and how they respond to perturbations, especially those induced by humans. The author, John Craig who has a great deal of experience working on these fishes in many of the countries in which they occur, has drawn together an extremely important book which provides a unique, comprehensive and indispensable review of this most significant group of fish.
