Book Synopsis Water-temperature Effects on Stage-discharge Relations in Large Alluvial Rivers by : G. B. Fenwick
Download or read book Water-temperature Effects on Stage-discharge Relations in Large Alluvial Rivers written by G. B. Fenwick and published by . This book was released on 1969 with total page 58 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Observations in natural rivers as well as experimental laboratory streams indicate that water temperatures significantly affect stream stage-discharge relations, bed forms, and sediment-transport rates. However, various investigators in this field have reached conclusions that appear to be contradictory, and the complex phenomena involved are not yet fully understood. With a view to clarifying further the water-temperature effects indicated by field measurements, the Committee on Channel Stabilization canvassed the Division offices of the Corps of Engineers for available historic data on discharge and water-temperature measurements in large alluvial rivers. The basic data received on the Mississippi, Missouri, and Arkansas Rivers were analyzed to determine temperature effects on the stage-discharge relations at 31 river stages at 18 gaging stations. The tabulated basic field data are included in this report. (Author).

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This revised Second Edition features updated information on sediment transport through pipes and the principles of sediment transportation which form the basis for solving alluvial stream problems. Discusses such theoretical aspects as properties of sediments, incipient motion condition, flow regimes, resistance to flow, bed load transport, suspended load and total load transport. Also covers applied problems including sediment samplers and sampling, stable channels, alluvial streams and sediment control.
Book Synopsis Plutonium and the Rio Grande by : William L. Graf
Download or read book Plutonium and the Rio Grande written by William L. Graf and published by Oxford University Press, USA. This book was released on 1994 with total page 346 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first atomic bombs were constructed at the Los Alamos National Laboratory, where lab workers disposed of waste plutonium in nearby canyons leading to the Rio Grande. Today, the environmental consequences are just beginning to be understood as scientists examine the effects created by past mishandling of one of the most toxic chemical wastes known. Written in an engaging, accessible style, Plutonium and the Rio Grande is the first book to offer a complete exploration of this environmental history. It includes an explanation of what plutonium is, how much of it was released by the Los Alamos workers, and how much entered the river system directly from waste disposal and indirectly, as a result of atomic bomb fallout. The book includes extensive appendices, maps, diagrams, and photographs. Environmental managers, ecologists, hydrologists and other river specialists, as well as concerned general readers will find the book readable and informative.
