Book Synopsis Lectures on Symplectic Geometry by : Ana Cannas da Silva
Download or read book Lectures on Symplectic Geometry written by Ana Cannas da Silva and published by Springer. This book was released on 2004-10-27 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The goal of these notes is to provide a fast introduction to symplectic geometry for graduate students with some knowledge of differential geometry, de Rham theory and classical Lie groups. This text addresses symplectomorphisms, local forms, contact manifolds, compatible almost complex structures, Kaehler manifolds, hamiltonian mechanics, moment maps, symplectic reduction and symplectic toric manifolds. It contains guided problems, called homework, designed to complement the exposition or extend the reader's understanding. There are by now excellent references on symplectic geometry, a subset of which is in the bibliography of this book. However, the most efficient introduction to a subject is often a short elementary treatment, and these notes attempt to serve that purpose. This text provides a taste of areas of current research and will prepare the reader to explore recent papers and extensive books on symplectic geometry where the pace is much faster. For this reprint numerous corrections and clarifications have been made, and the layout has been improved.
Book Synopsis Integrability, Quantization, and Geometry: I. Integrable Systems by : Sergey Novikov
Download or read book Integrability, Quantization, and Geometry: I. Integrable Systems written by Sergey Novikov and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2021-04-12 with total page 516 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a collection of articles written in memory of Boris Dubrovin (1950–2019). The authors express their admiration for his remarkable personality and for the contributions he made to mathematical physics. For many of the authors, Dubrovin was a friend, colleague, inspiring mentor, and teacher. The contributions to this collection of papers are split into two parts: “Integrable Systems” and “Quantum Theories and Algebraic Geometry”, reflecting the areas of main scientific interests of Dubrovin. Chronologically, these interests may be divided into several parts: integrable systems, integrable systems of hydrodynamic type, WDVV equations (Frobenius manifolds), isomonodromy equations (flat connections), and quantum cohomology. The articles included in the first part are more or less directly devoted to these areas (primarily with the first three listed above). The second part contains articles on quantum theories and algebraic geometry and is less directly connected with Dubrovin's early interests.
Book Synopsis Geometric Methods in Physics XXXV by : Piotr Kielanowski
Download or read book Geometric Methods in Physics XXXV written by Piotr Kielanowski and published by Birkhäuser. This book was released on 2018-02-10 with total page 282 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book features a selection of articles based on the XXXV Białowieża Workshop on Geometric Methods in Physics, 2016. The series of Białowieża workshops, attended by a community of experts at the crossroads of mathematics and physics, is a major annual event in the field. The works in this book, based on presentations given at the workshop, are previously unpublished, at the cutting edge of current research, typically grounded in geometry and analysis, and with applications to classical and quantum physics. In 2016 the special session "Integrability and Geometry" in particular attracted pioneers and leading specialists in the field. Traditionally, the Białowieża Workshop is followed by a School on Geometry and Physics, for advanced graduate students and early-career researchers, and the book also includes extended abstracts of the lecture series.

Book Synopsis Lectures on the Geometry of Quantization by : Sean Bates
Download or read book Lectures on the Geometry of Quantization written by Sean Bates and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1997 with total page 150 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These notes are based on a course entitled ``Symplectic Geometry and Geometric Quantization'' taught by Alan Weinstein at the University of California, Berkeley (fall 1992) and at the Centre Emile Borel (spring 1994). The only prerequisite for the course needed is a knowledge of the basic notions from the theory of differentiable manifolds (differential forms, vector fields, transversality, etc.). The aim is to give students an introduction to the ideas of microlocal analysis and the related symplectic geometry, with an emphasis on the role these ideas play in formalizing the transition between the mathematics of classical dynamics (hamiltonian flows on symplectic manifolds) and quantum mechanics (unitary flows on Hilbert spaces). These notes are meant to function as a guide to the literature. The authors refer to other sources for many details that are omitted and can be bypassed on a first reading.
Book Synopsis From Stein to Weinstein and Back by : Kai Cieliebak
Download or read book From Stein to Weinstein and Back written by Kai Cieliebak and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2012 with total page 379 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is devoted to the interplay between complex and symplectic geometry in affine complex manifolds. Affine complex (a.k.a. Stein) manifolds have canonically built into them symplectic geometry which is responsible for many phenomena in complex geometry and analysis. The goal of the book is the exploration of this symplectic geometry (the road from 'Stein to Weinstein') and its applications in the complex geometric world of Stein manifolds (the road 'back').

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Designed to give graduate students an understanding of integrable systems via the study of Riemann surfaces, loop groups, and twistors, this book has its origins in a lecture series given by the internationally renowned authors. Written in an accessible, informal style, it fills a gap in the existing literature.
Book Synopsis Dynamical Systems IV by : V.I. Arnol'd
Download or read book Dynamical Systems IV written by V.I. Arnol'd and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 291 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book takes a snapshot of the mathematical foundations of classical and quantum mechanics from a contemporary mathematical viewpoint. It covers a number of important recent developments in dynamical systems and mathematical physics and places them in the framework of the more classical approaches; the presentation is enhanced by many illustrative examples concerning topics which have been of especial interest to workers in the field, and by sketches of the proofs of the major results. The comprehensive bibliographies are designed to permit the interested reader to retrace the major stages in the development of the field if he wishes. Not so much a detailed textbook for plodding students, this volume, like the others in the series, is intended to lead researchers in other fields and advanced students quickly to an understanding of the 'state of the art' in this area of mathematics. As such it will serve both as a basic reference work on important areas of mathematical physics as they stand today, and as a good starting point for further, more detailed study for people new to this field.
