Book Synopsis Swirling Flows and Flames by : Toufik Boushaki
Download or read book Swirling Flows and Flames written by Toufik Boushaki and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2019-06-26 with total page 120 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Swirl flows are used in a wide range of industrial applications. In non-reacting cases, examples of applications include vortex amplifiers and reactors, heat exchangers, jet pumps, and cyclone separators. In reacting cases, swirlers are widely used in combustion systems, such as gas turbines, industrial furnaces, boilers, gasoline and diesel engines, and many other practical heating devices. Effects of using swirl on flow and combustion are significant and varied, and concern, for example, aerodynamics, mixing, flame stability, intensity of combustion, and pollutant emissions. The purpose of this book is to present recent research efforts to understand and characterize swirling flows of different types and in different applications. These include gaseous, liquid, and solid fuels in order to enhance combustion systems and their energy efficiency. Swirl flows are very complex and the studies proposed in this project are based on different means, including theoretical calculations, numerical modeling, and experimental measurements.

Book Synopsis Labyrinth and Piano Key Weirs by : Sébastien Erpicum
Download or read book Labyrinth and Piano Key Weirs written by Sébastien Erpicum and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2011-05-10 with total page 314 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Labyrinth spillways are almost as old as dam engineering. In spite of the fact that they appear as a very good technical-economical compromise, only 0.1% of large dams are equipped with such weirs. The main reason for this is that traditional labyrinth weirs usually cannot be installed on top of concrete gravity dams as they require a large foundat

Book Synopsis Experimental Study of the Swirling Flow in the Volute of a Centrifugal Pump by : T. Elholm
Download or read book Experimental Study of the Swirling Flow in the Volute of a Centrifugal Pump written by T. Elholm and published by . This book was released on 1990 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Detailed three-dimensional velocity distributions, corresponding to design and off-design operation, were measured in two different circumferential cross sections of a volute by means of LDV. It is shown that the swirl has a forced vortex type velocity distribution and that the location of the swirl center changes with mass flow. The throughflow velocity distribution is primarily defined by the conservation of angular momentum. A strong interaction between the throughflow and swirl velocity is observed. Flow visualization in the tongue region reveals a reversal of the velocity at the volute inlet with increasing mass flow. The pressure drop between volute outlet and inlet at low mass flow pushes extra fluid through the tongue gap and increases the mass flow in the volute. The abrupt pressure rise at high mass flow results in local return flow perturbing the flow in the outlet pipe.

Book Synopsis Radial Flow Turbocompressors by : Michael Casey
Download or read book Radial Flow Turbocompressors written by Michael Casey and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2021-06-10 with total page 789 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An introduction to the theory and engineering practice that underpins the component design and analysis of radial flow turbocompressors. Drawing upon an extensive theoretical background and years of practical experience, the authors provide descriptions of applications, concepts, component design, analysis tools, performance maps, flow stability, and structural integrity, with illustrative examples. Features wide coverage of all types of radial compressor over many applications unified by the consistent use of dimensional analysis. Discusses the methods needed to analyse the performance, flow, and mechanical integrity that underpin the design of efficient centrifugal compressors with good flow range and stability. Includes explanation of the design of all radial compressor components, including inlet guide vanes, impellers, diffusers, volutes, return channels, de-swirl vanes and side-streams. Suitable as a reference for advanced students of turbomachinery, and a perfect tool for practising mechanical and aerospace engineers already within the field and those just entering it.
