Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Letter to the Reader: A story is just the formation of words used to paint the picture of an event. My story is not any different. Each word used, is full of emotions, with hopes of painting a portrait of LOVE. I always heard people say, "It's better to have LOVED and lost than not to have LOVED at all." And at times, I was completely in agreement with this. Well that was until I LOVED and lost and was never able to LOVE again. I can't blame LOVE for this, but I can blame me. In order to remove the stain that guilt has left on the remaining pieces of my heart, I painted this picture, with my words, in hopes that you will end up appreciating the gift of LOVE.

Book excerpt: In a world where guns never existed, lies the nation of Bladin. Even when guns aren't in the picture, this nation is corrupted beyond imagination. And two noble races, the Ninjas (masters of assasination and deception, with a touch of justice) and the Samurais (masters of the blade and physical ability, with a stab of pride), are in major conflict (based on rivalries) that may enevitably cause the nation to collapse. With all hope lost, two humans born into this world, Ryuu Kodachi (raised as a keen ninja) and Gemori Battousai (raised as a master-less samurai) are the last hope for peace in the nation. But if one desires for peace, prepare for war. Ryuu and Gemori are thrown into entwined paths blocked by many obstacles; including duels against their own kin, supernatual humans, legendary beasts, as well their own state of emotions. Can the unsettled rivalry between ninjas ans samurais be settled in peace? Ryuu and Gemori must find out the hard way: death, reason, and injustice. Impossible? It is simply a word. Ryuu and Gemori must break through the "impossibility" of this grave war to rest at peace with the curse they were born with- to become a Legend.
Book Synopsis Samuel Roth, Infamous Modernist by : Jay A. Gertzman
Download or read book Samuel Roth, Infamous Modernist written by Jay A. Gertzman and published by University Press of Florida. This book was released on 2013-04-01 with total page 400 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Samuel Roth is known to most literary scholars as a bold literary "pirate" for issuing unauthorized editions of modernist sensations, including Ulysses and Lady Chatterley’s Lover. In the absence of an international copyright agreement and because works deemed obscene could not be copyrighted, what he did was not illegal. But it did violate the protocols of mutual fair dealing between publishers and authors. Those publications provoked an unprecedented international protest of writers, publishers, and intellectuals, who eventually vilified Roth on two continents. Roth was a man with an uncanny ability to recognize good contemporary writing and make it accessible to popular audiences. Ultimately, his dedication to the publication of these works broke down many of the censorship laws of the time, though he suffered greatly for his efforts. His story portrays a struggle with literary censorship in the mid-twentieth century while providing insights into how modernism was marketed in America.
Download or read book Pieces of Me written by Veronica Neave and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2009-10-01 with total page 153 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A vibrant performer, film director and mum, life for Veronica Neave was always a little crazy and unpredictable. When she tested positive for the BRCA2 'breast cancer gene' the turmoil in her life reached a new high. The genetic test, combined with her family's history, increased the probability of Veronica one day battling breast cancer to more than 85%. Veronica had watched her mother's ongoing struggle and knew well the history of other relatives dying young at the hands of this persistent disease. When Veronica's two sisters also tested positive for the gene, it seemed the deadly pattern was destined to continue. Veronica's options - on paper - seemed simple: prevention through high maintenance testing, medication, or the more intrusive step of removing her healthy breasts, and possibly her ovaries too, in the hope of prevention. With her breasts now centre stage, the decision was extremely personal and introspective and yet also seemed to be everybody's business. As she unravelled the information of experts from across the medical spectrum and views from others, Veronica battled her own beliefs about sexuality, body image and even the thought that her breast removal and reconstruction would be seen as a cosmetic 'improvement' by many, not as a life-saving operation. One thing was certain. The science of genetic identification was expanding faster than cures or treatments and Veronica needed to make a decision now. On one hand she had been forewarned of the potential risks, on the other, there was no certainty of prevention or a cure. Veronica confides, "It's strange. Until a few years ago, my family had never heard of the BRCA2 gene, and now it seems to be everywhere. It's a bizarre predicament to be in, dealing with the concept that you may have cancer, but not yet and to be making decisions on a future that may or may not happen but could kill you. I was screaming out for someone to tell me what to do. I was so confused and wondering just how much time I really had before fate took the decision out of my hands?" Pieces of Me is a beautifully written, informative and thought-provoking account of Veronica's journey from initial diagnosis with the BRCA2 gene mutation to her decision to remove her healthy breasts. It's a topic guaranteed to divide any dinner party. Along the way she shares her choices, insights and fears as she untangles the different perspectives and advice, to eventually find her own way. "My mother consciously always talked to us of death so we would not be afraid. She said she did this because she knew the history of cancer in our family was more than just a coincidence. My great grandmother, my great aunt and my grandmother all died of breast cancer by the time they were 50 years old. My mother developed breast cancer at 49 and her sister a little later at age 59. Needless to say, while growing up there was a shadow of awareness that breast cancer was 'in my genes'." Veronica Neave

Download or read book Lost Parents written by Michael Wilkerson and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2018-05-11 with total page 102 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Starting off on the first day of retirement, Mike looked forward to doing some things he had dreamed about for years. Bound for the eastern Caribbean on a November evening, Mike looked to starboard. The tall imposing walls of Castillo San Felipe del Morro, a massive fort built by the Spanish nearly five hundred years ago, loomed in the darkness. Near Pensacola, his daughter Kendra was expecting her first child very close to Christmas day. There wasnt much more he could possibly ask for in his life. Kendra wanted her dad to be Papi for her soon-to-be infant. Papi it would be. He looked forward to helping care for the new arrival and also getting out and doing many things. First though, he wanted to soak in adventure that lay before him. Back home, a storm was brewing. Not a hurricane, not that kind of storm. Illness was rapidly spreading. A flu was leaping through the population, and many strong young women seemed to be more susceptible than others. When Mike left on his retirement cruise, Kendra had a sniffle. When he returned home, everything had changed. In the space of twelve hours, he would fly from Puerto Rico to Pensacola. Then from his home near Pensacola, his wife and Kendras husband would drive to Birmingham, Alabama, where nothing would seem real or believable. Just weeks after retiring from working with children in their homes and in hospital settings, once again, Mike was in a hospital setting. Only this time, it was his child whose life was threatened. This is a story of what a parent lives when their child is hospitalized and then lost.
