Book excerpt: The sweet simplicity of a child's trust is a wonder to behold. They stand in a place of freedom and joy that we're convinced we have to leave as we grow older. We have come to believe that just as our physical maturity is characterized by independence, our growth as followers of Christ is too. What would happen if we came to see that dependency is not a reality we grow out of but grow more deeply into?Saturated with the truths of Scripture, Sweet Dependence calls us to rejoice in the freedom we find as we rely completely on Christ. With our prayers, in our praise, and through our pain, we have the privilege of depending on our Savior and celebrating the abundant life we have in Him.

Download or read book Sweet Addiction written by Laylah Seda and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2008-09-10 with total page 176 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hey Readers, I just wanted to take time and tell you about myself and my Sweet Addiction 1st Series book “Just like You.” I started writing when I was in the sixth grade due to an English assignment of writing a poem. I realized then, that I liked rhyming words and for every little thing I saw, I wrote a poem. As years went by my writing has grown and I started to get into subjects about friends, family, birthdays, etc. I have written three books since the sixth grade that I have in journals. This last book took me seven years to write because I wrote when I felt a certain emotion. I turned to poetry when I had no one to talk to, I turned to poetry when I was upset, I turned to poetry when I was happy, and I turned to poetry when I was sad. I found writing as a way to vent and then I would look back at my poems and remember the moment. I always felt better after writing. I am not a person to use profanity to much in person but in certain poems that’s how I felt and so I wrote it instead of saying them. My book has every kind of emotion in your every day life. That is why it is called “Just like You.” Everyone feels sad, happy, angry, and in love. I have had friends come up to me and I would write them dedication poems, and some people wanted to borrow my journals because they can relate to the poems. I didn’t want to let out my only journals so I would let them read it when I was around. I never thought of publishing until my uncle passed away. My family is my biggest fan. My cousins loved reading my poetry, my uncle was my critic and said I had a talent and he loved to hear whenever I had a new poem. Another big inspiration for me to publish is for my cousin that is 13 years old right now. She has been a fan of mine for awhile and she is the type to hold all her emotions inside and not talk to anyone about them. I showed her how I turned to poetry and how she could share them or keep them to herself and I told her secrets on how she can write without anyone knowing who she is writing about. Writing poetry is now her way of letting it out. Her new best friend is her journal. My uncle who passed away believed in me and my cousin looks up to me and that is what brought me to publishing my book so that I can share my feelings, experiences and words with my readers. I hope you enjoy the first series of Sweet Addiction “Just like You.”

He discusses the production and consumption of sugar, and reveals how closely interwoven are sugar's origins as a "slave" crop grown in Europe's tropical colonies with is use first as an extravagant luxury for the aristocracy, then as a staple of the diet of the new industrial proletariat. Finally, he considers how sugar has altered work patterns, eating habits, and our diet in modern times. Book Synopsis Why Diets Fail (Because You're Addicted to Sugar) by : Nicole M. Avena, PhD
Download or read book Why Diets Fail (Because You're Addicted to Sugar) written by Nicole M. Avena, PhD and published by Ten Speed Press. This book was released on 2013-12-31 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This revolutionary eating plan reveals definitive proof that sugar is addictive, and presents the first science-based program to cut out the sugar, stop the cravings that cause most diets to eventually fail, and lose weight--permanently. If you’re like most people, you’ve tried a few (or maybe many) different diets without success. The truth is, most diets work for a while, but there’s usually a point at which the dietary restrictions become too difficult to maintain. Why? Because whether you’re following a low-carb, paleo, gluten-free, or even an all-liquid green juice diet, the addictive nature of sugar causes cravings to take over and sabotage your diet-of-the-moment. In Why Diets Fail, Dr. Nicole M. Avena and John R. Talbott reveal definitive proof that sugar is addictive and present the first science-based program to stop the cravings and lose weight—permanently. A neuroscientist and food addiction expert, Dr. Avena has conducted groundbreaking research showing that sugar triggers the same responses in the brain as addictive drugs like cocaine, nicotine, and alcohol. And like those other substances, the more sugar you eat, the more you need to get the same pleasurable feelings. (No wonder your last diet didn’t stick.) Avena and Talbott’s eight-step plan walks you through the process of going sugar-free and surviving the make-or-break withdrawal period—those first few weeks when your body feels the absence of its favorite sweetener most acutely. An easy-to-use Sugar Equivalency Table developed by Talbott lists the amount of sugar in hundreds of common foods so you know precisely what to eat and what to avoid. And when it comes to what you can eat, you have a lot to choose from. In fact, you’ll probably eat more on this diet than you normally do—while continuing to lose weight. This science-based program is the diet to end all diets. It will help you break the yo-yo dieting cycle, end those maddening sugar cravings, and develop a new longing for the good food that will keep you fit, healthy, and happy.
