Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When author Cathy Jodeit found out that her daughter Molly had Hodgkin's Lymphoma, she did what most moms would do: She and her husband, Mel, went straight to the Lord in prayer and asked others to pray for Molly and their family as well. Cathy's prayer requests quickly turned into email requests and devotionals. With the help of her friend, Kitty, they were sent to a large e-mail list that continued to gain momentum with each week of their journey. Kitty faithfully compiled these e-mails as well as the responses that were sent to Cathy in care of her. Molly's story, written through the eyes of a mother, is one that inspires and truly shows the power of prayer. "Sweet Sixteen with Hodgkin's" is a book for anyone who is struggling with something hard that life has thrown them. In this instance, cancer was the missile that had been launched in theirs.

Book excerpt: "Published here for the first time are seven of Emerson's topical notebooks, which served as a source for his lectures, essays, and books of the 1850s, 1860s, and 1870s. Concerned primarily with nature, art, philosophy, American culture, and his contemporaries, the notebooks presented in this first of a three-volume editions afford fascinating insight into Emerson's creative practices. They will offer new perspectives for future readings of his completed works. The editors provide faithful transcriptions of the notebooks using the highest standards of textual practice. Their detailed annotations describe and comment on erased or revised passages, translate Greek and Latin quotations, and identify books and articles referred to in the texts of the notebooks. References to similar passages in Emerson's journals, lectures, and published works are also provided in the annotations. Publication of these notebooks will inable scholars to trace ideas that have gone unnoticed previously. The Topical Notebooks of Ralph Waldo Emerson, Volume 1, offers valuable insight into the art and philosophy of one of America's foremost thinkers. These volumes will be an important addition to any personal or institutional library of nine-teenth-century American literature."--Publishers website.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: General Series Editors: Gay Wilson Allen and Sculley Bradley Originally published between 1961 and 1984, and now available in paperback for the first time, the critically acclaimed Collected Writings of Walt Whitman captures every facet of one of America’s most important poets. Notebooks and Unpublished Prose Manuscripts gathers Whitman’s autobiographical notes, his views on contemporary politics, and the writings he made as he educated himself in ancient history, religion and mythology, health (including phrenology), and word-study. Included is material on his Civil War experiences, his love of Abraham Lincoln, his descriptions of various trips to the West and South and of the cities in which he resided, his generally pessimistic view of America’s prospects in the Reconstruction and the Gilded Age, and his reminiscences during his final years and his preoccupation with the increasing ailments that came with old age. Many of these notes served as sources for his poetry—first drafts of some of the poems are included as they appear in the notes—and as the basis for his lectures.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First published in 2002. Volume 3 of the Notes on the Notebooks of Samuel Taylor Coleridge, spanning from 1804 to 1819. The volume is in two parts, text and notes. During his adult life until his death in 1834, Coleridge made entries in more than sixty notebooks. Neither commonplace books nor diaries, but something of both, they contain notes on literary, theological, philosophical, scientific, social and psychological matters, plans for and fragments of works and many other items of great interest. Shortly after World War II, Kathleen Coburn, formerly of Victoria College in Toronto, rediscovered this great collection of unpublished manuscripts. With the support of the Coleridge estate, she embarked on a career of editing and publishing these volumes and was awarded with many honours for her work, including: a Leverhulme Award (1948), a Guggenheim Fellowship (1953), a Fellowship in the Royal Society of Canada (1958), the Order of Canada (1974) and an honorary doctorate from her own university. Originally projected as a five volume set (each volume consisting of a book of text and a book of notes).

"Simplified Approach to Orthopedic Physiotherapy" gives physiotherapists of all levels a comprehensive but understandable review of this field's concepts and processes. This book aims to bridge the gap between advanced theoretical principles and real-world applications by offering simple, understandable material. By teaching readers how to diagnose, treat, and manage orthopedic problems, the goal is to enhance patient outcomes. In this book, many orthopedic problems, treatment regimens, and rehabilitation procedures are explained in detail. Each chapter complements the previous one, ensuring a logical flow of knowledge. Real-life case studies and practical examples demonstrate key principles and their therapeutic application. I used my physiotherapy, research, and teaching experience to write this book. Working with interdisciplinary teams and diverse patient populations shaped this content. I want to make a resource that is instructional, practical, and easy to use. Without my coworkers, mentors, and patients, this book would not have been possible. This work has been shaped by their expertise, support, and willingness to share their experiences.

Book excerpt: One of the greatest blessings of my life was, along with my wife, being privileged to be part of a tour of Israel in 1982. The intense highlight was our being baptized in the Jordan River. The entire trip was indeed a life changing experience and inspired in me the desire to write. As a result, I wrote my first poem, O' Jerusalem. As I continued to write and store the results in my computer, one of my co-workers discovered my writings and shared them with others. The final result is this book of poetry and short stories. It is my desire that it will be a blessing to others and perhaps make a difference in the life of many. At age 87, Fred Faulkner continues to serve as Correspondence Director for A New Beginning, Pastor Greg Laurie's radio ministry, in Riverside, California, a position he has held since his retirement from the County of Riverside in 1981. He answers ministry letters, e-mails, and correspondence via the Internet weekly, but his other passion is writing poetry for and about his Savior, Christ Jesus. Fred and his wife Carol have been married 47 years. Both received Christ on the same day--December 6, 1981--after hearing Pastor Laurie preach. Both serve at Harvest Christian Fellowship where Carol is Greg Laurie's administrative assistant. Frederic Joseph Faulkner was born in Madison County Arkansas, on April 15, 1921, the youngest of six children. He is the father of six grown children, grandfather of seventeen, and four great grandchildren. He and Carol live in Riverside, in Southern California.

First published in 1996, this edition of The Frankenstein Notebooks contains not only facsimiles and transcriptions of all of the surviving manuscripts related to the novel and a corrected, critical text of Frankenstein (or The Modern Prometheus) but also a full range of factual information, drawn from Shelley’s and William Godwin’s letters and journals, from newspaper ads of the day, and from other available scholarship about the conception, gestation, and birth of Mary Shelley’s monster. This two volume set contains a wealth of information vital to the creation and reception of Frankenstein. It will enable scholars, critics and students to see for themselves the exact extent of P. B. Shelley’s editorial contributions and trace the artistic and ideological development of the novel at various stages in its formation. It will also enable the reader to explore the text itself to test and evaluate their own theses. This set will be of keen interest to those studying Frankenstein, the Romantics and 19th century literature.
