Book Synopsis The Power Elite by : Dennis Laurence Cuddy
Download or read book The Power Elite written by Dennis Laurence Cuddy and published by Bible Belt Publishing. This book was released on 2013-08-01 with total page 176 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The history of the Power Elite goes back almost a thousand years. A useful starting point, though, for the historical outline of the "modern" Power Elite would be about 350 years ago with their political and economic activities, and their alteration of nations' values to accept the Power Elite's control. A critical moment in their plan for global dominance occurred with the founding of the Illuminati in 1776. Not only did the Illuminati advocate the overthrow of monarchical authority, but religious authority as well. Dr. Cuddy covers the methods they have used to bring this about, including psychological conditioning and misdirection, and presents the Oklahoma City bombing as an example of that misdirection. He then takes an extensive look at how a "bold new world" is being shaped using coercive means to undermine national sovereignty and bring about a world socialist government. Dr. Cuddy also analyzes the role of the Muslim Brotherhood in the Power Elite's plan. Since the driving mechanism to bring about the plan's fulfillment is economics, he next reveals the looming economic disaster created to further the Power Elite's goals. This is followed by a look at the election of 2012, and the importance of President Obama's reelection as he moves the United States closer toward socialism. Finally, in "Looking Backward," Dr. Cuddy projects into the future to see how the Power Elite's ultimate plan for a world socialist government was fulfilled

Book Synopsis The Toronto School of Communication Theory by : Rita Watson
Download or read book The Toronto School of Communication Theory written by Rita Watson and published by University of Toronto Press. This book was released on 2008-02-23 with total page 377 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While never formally recognized as a school of thought in its time, the work of a number of University of Toronto scholars over several decades – most notably Harold Adams Innis and Marshall McLuhan – formulated a number of original attempts to conceptualize communication as a phenomenon, and launched radical and innovative conjectures about its consequences. This landmark collection of essays re-assesses the existence, and re-evaluates the contribution, of the so-called Toronto School of Communication. While the theories of Innis and McLuhan are notoriously resistant to neat encapsulation, some general themes have emerged in scholarly attempts to situate them within the discipline of communications studies that they helped to define. Three such themes – focus on the effects and consequences of communications, emphasis on communications as a process rather than as structure, and a sharp focus on the technology of communication, or the ‘medium’ – are the most fundamental in characterizing the unique perspective of the Toronto School. This collection not only represents a crucial step in defining the ‘Toronto School,’ it also provides close analysis of the ideas of its individual members.

Book Synopsis Armies in Southern Russia 1918–19 by : Phoebus Athanassiou
Download or read book Armies in Southern Russia 1918–19 written by Phoebus Athanassiou and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2021-06-24 with total page 50 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An important aspect of the Russian Civil War were the several Allied expeditions immediately following World War I in support of the disunited Russian 'White' armies resisting the Bolshevik Revolution. Although they ended in failure, these ventures were long resented, and were the origin of the 70-year-long Soviet suspicion of the Western Allies. British and US expeditionary forces operated in North Russia and Siberia in support of General Yudenich and Admiral Kolchak respectively, and a French and Greek expeditionary force (plus Romanian and Polish elements) operated in Crimea and south-western Ukraine, in support of General Denikin. The situation was further complicated by the presence of strong Imperial German elements still under arms, and by war between various factions in the Ukraine. This Southern theatre of the Allied interventions is far less well known than that of the British and Americans in the North and East. Featuring rare photos and new colour plates, this fascinating new book describes this major Allied intervention in the Russian Civil War. Dr Phoebus Athanassiou writes a compelling account of how the French and Greeks alongside White Russians were greatly outnumbered by pro-Bolshevik forces and were relentlessly pushed back by the Ukrainian forces. In just over 4 months, on 28 April 1919, the last of their forces were evacuated by Allied navies from Sevastopol in Crimea.

The volume traces the evolution of the ancient Greek warrior, from the Persian Wars, the Peloponnesian War, to the rise of Macedonia under Philip II and Alexander the Great. Attention is paid to infantry, including the famous hoplites, cavalry, and naval forces. Sidebars highlight key concepts and figures, while photographs of ancient sculpture, vase paintings, and artifacts offer a glimpse into this distant world.

Book Synopsis Ancient Battle Formations by : Justin Swanton
Download or read book Ancient Battle Formations written by Justin Swanton and published by Pen and Sword Military. This book was released on 2020-08-30 with total page 378 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An analysis of ancient Greek, Roman, and Macedonian winning battle formations, from why they worked, the equipment and men used, and how they broke down. Justin Swanton examines the principal battle-winning formations of the ancient world, determining their composition, function and efficacy. An introductory chapter looks at the fundamental components of the principal battle formations of heavy and light infantry, cavalry, elephants and chariots, showing how they bolstered the individual's soldier's willingness to fight. The rest of the book focuses on massed infantry that reigned supreme in this era: the heavily armored Greek hoplite phalanx that was immune to the weaponry of its non-Greek opponents; the Macedonian pike phalanx that was unbeatable against frontal attacks so long as it kept order; the Roman triplex acies which, contrary to popular opinion, consisted of continuous lines in open order, with file spaces wide enough to allow embattled infantry to fall back after which those files closed up instantly against the enemy. A careful study of the Greek and Latin of the sources sheds fresh light on how these formations were organized and worked, reevaluating many conventional notions and leading to some surprising conclusions. Praise for Ancient Battle Formations “This book is both important for its thoroughly researched, original and well-argued historical conclusions and an enjoyable read. Highly recommended.” —Professor F. Noel Zaal (BA, LLB University of Natal, LLM Durban-Westville, LLM Columbia, PhD Wits
