As the global temperature rose, bringing about unprecedented shifts in weather patterns, Maya and her friends discovered the true meaning of climate change. This heartwarming story revolves around their efforts to face the consequences of these changes and find global warming solutions that not only protected their village but also contributed to a more sustainable world. Guided by the wisdom of the village's wise old man, Maya and her community embarked on a quest to adapt to the challenges brought about by climate change. They observed the world around them, learning from nature's signs and understanding the far-reaching consequences of climate change. As they faced the realities of a changing climate, Maya became a beacon of leadership, advocating for solutions that not only mitigated global warming but also fostered a resilient and united community. Join Maya in this simple yet profound journey, where a small village grapples with the consequences of climate change, seeks understanding about global warming, and strives to be a part of the global warming solutions. In the face of nature's wrath, Maya's village not only survives but thrives, showcasing that collective action and a commitment to living in harmony with the Earth can make a significant impact on a world transformed by the forces of climate change.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Surviving Tomorrow contains twenty-nine stories about survivors, over half of them original and published here for the first time. Struck by a desire to help people as the pandemic unfolded, editor Bryan Thomas Schmidt decided to try and use his skills as an anthologist to raise funding for COVID-19 support by creating an anthology with two purposes-fundraising and provide readers with stories that would speak to them as they manage the stress of our changing social landscape. Bryan took the idea to a friend he knew was at that time suffering from the novel coronavirus who also happened to be a medical publisher-Peter J. Wacks-and asked if he'd be willing to build the project. Peter spoke to Isabel Penraeth-who was in the process of launching a new specialty edition publishing house-about the project? and the anthology was in incubation. People from four different publishing enterprises joined forces to bring this book to life. After conversations with the authors you see below, all of whom are allowing their work to be published without remuneration, the anthology became a living, breathing reality. The stories in Surviving Tomorrow focus on the impacts of extraordinary circumstances on the people they depict and how they respond, and though a few are longer, most of the stories are short enough to be read in a few minutes' time-designed to provide a brief escape from the worries of the moment into another world and renew your spirit and mind. All profits from Surviving Tomorrow go to providing COVID-19 tests directly to the front lines of this crisis, or your portion can be earmarked for one of the charities you can select on the checkout page. As we start to achieve distributing to the front lines, we will post a thermometer here to show how many (and where) the tests are landing. Available in a limited, numbered, gold-leaf embossed collector's edition as well as hardcover, trade paperback, and ebook, Surviving Tomorrow will provide hours of enjoyment even as it saves lives.

Book excerpt: How does a young German who has been a perfunctory member of the Hitler Youth & has competed in Nazi-organized athletic competitions become, in the space of two years, an eighty-pound, tuberculosis-stricken concentration camp escapee? In this larger-than-life memoir, Walter Meyer leads readers from one harrowing moment to the next as he recounts his experiences during & after Hitler's reign. After a brief membership in the Hitler Youth, Meyer rebelled by joining a relatively harmless subversive group that focused its efforts on pranks against the local SS. During World War II, he was thrown in jail for stealing shoes, receiving a sentence of one to three years. The sixteen-year-old Meyer's refusal to conform to prison regulations resulted in his spending a good deal of time in solitary confinement for foiled escape attempts. Unbeknownst to his family, Meyer's fiery spirit eventually landed him in a Nazi work camp. Transported to Ravensbruck, he was forced to work under grueling conditions in a quarry. He developed tuberculosis. Against the advice of others, he revealed his illness to the camp doctor. Knowing he would soon deteriorate & die in the camp, he again plotted his escape. This time he succeeded. Upon returning home to Dusseldorf, Meyer lamented the pallor that had spread throughout the town & the country itself. After recovering his health, he regained his youthful lust for adventure. Meyer began a whirlwind odyssey, ducking into train cars & stowing away on ships, occasionally landing in jail for traveling without a passort-from France to Spain, Belgium to Holland, & finally to South America-in pursuit of something other than the aftermath of war. Meyer's memoir gives insight into the climate in Germany during World War II & in the defeated nation after the war. His experience as a non-Jewish survivor of the Nazi concentration camps provides an enlightening & varied perspective to the Holocaust dialogue.

Book excerpt: Andy Coogan was born in Glasgow in 1917, the oldest child of poor Irish immigrants. He was tipped for Olympic glory, but a promising running career was interrupted by war service. His capture during the fall of Singapore marked the beginning of a three-and-a-half-year nightmare of starvation, torture and disease. Andy was imprisoned in the notorious Changi camp before being transported to Taiwan, where he worked as a slave in a copper mine and was twice ordered to dig his own grave. He was later taken to Japan on a hellship voyage that nearly killed him, but Andy’s athleticism and spirit enable him to survive an ordeal in which many died. From his poverty-stricken boyhood in the slums of the Gorbals to the atomic wasteland of Nagasaki, Andy’s life story is vividly recounted in Tomorrow You Die, an epic, compassionate tale that will shock, enthral and inspire.

Morton B.A., B.E.D. is a self-help book as well as a personal testimonial, as the author describes his medical history relating to this debilitating disease, from initial diagnosis, to prescribed medications and their side-effects, to surgery, and resulting post-surgical trauma, stress and depression. This book takes a positive stance, as medical, emotional and spiritual concerns are all addressed, and solutions are revealed. Some areas included in the 14 chapters are: Identifying RA, Debilitation and Diagnosis, Treatment, Surgery, Stress, Nutrition and Weight Control, The 4 Keys to Spiritual Healing, Support Groups, and Surviving Tomorrow. Robert Morton is a teacher and formerly a skier, hockey player, varsity fencer at the University of Western Ontario, a drummer, long-distance runner, artist and draftsman. All these skills and talents were visciously stripped away one afternoon, as arthritis lashed out and cut Rob down, eventually rolling him into a stiff immovable ball. After struggling with all the various hardships associated with this disease over the next 22 years, Rob has develpoed solutions and strategies to defend against the darker side of arthritis, and his coping skills have afforded him a positive outlook, and a future that includes returning to work, and living a complete, full life. Jointman includes a forward by Dr.Sharon Le Clercq, a leading rheumatologist, and Mr.Morton's doctor for over 10 years. Dr. LeClercq became Rob's confidant and assisted greatly in the final compilation of this unique manuscript. Any person suffering from arthritis and looking for answers, will greatly appreciate this first-hand view of the disease, and associated coping strategies. Jointman is a winner in every sense of the word.

Book excerpt: This is the story of a professor of Medical Sociology, diagnosed with colon cancer. He undergoes the appropriate medical treatment. Passing through that trajectory, he realizes that things happen that he never read about in the professional literature. During his illness and rehabilitation he scribbles down notes about what is happening to him, what he is observing and what things do not tally with his knowledge of the sociological literature. This continuous connection of personal experience with academic literature is what makes this book such a powerful account of the ‘everyday’ life of a sick person. Recommended to teachers and students in the field of social health research; to everyone who works in health care, professionals as well as volunteers; and to men and women who themselves are experiencing a serious illness.

Book excerpt: Most research about financial stability and sustainable growth focuses on the financial sector and macroeconomics and neglects the real sector, microeconomics and psychology issues. Real-sector and financial-sectors linkages are increasing and are a foundation of economic/social/environmental/urban sustainability, given financial crises, noise, internet, “transition economics”, disintermediation, demographics and inequality around the world. Within complex systems theory framework, this book analyses some multi-sided mechanisms and risk-perception that can have symbiotic relationships with financial stability, systemic risk and/or sustainable growth. Within the context of Regret Minimization, MN-Transferable Utility and WTAL, new theories-of-the-firm are developed that consider sustainable growth, price stability, globalization, financial stability and birth-to-death evolutions of firms. This book introduces new behaviour theories pertaining to real estate and intangibles, which can affect the evolutions of risk-taking and risk perception within organizations and investment entities. The chapters address elements of the dilemma of often divergent risk perceptions of, and risk-taking by corporate executives, regulators and investment managers.

Book excerpt: Traditional research about Financial Stability and Sustainable Growth typically omits Earnings Management (as a broad class of misconduct), Complex Systems Theory, Mechanism Design Theory, Public Health, psychology issues, and the externalities and psychological effects of Fintech. Inequality, Environmental Pollution, Earnings Management opportunities, the varieties of complex Financial Instruments, Fintech, Regulatory Fragmentation, Regulatory Capture and real-financial sector-linkages are growing around the world, and these factors can have symbiotic relationships. Within Complex System theory framework, this book analyzes these foregoing issues, and introduces new behaviour theories, Enforcement Dichotomies, and critiques of models, regulations and theories in several dimensions. The issues analyzed can affect markets, and evolutions of systems, decision-making, "nternal Markets and risk-perception within government regulators, operating companies and investment entities, and thus they have Public Policy implications. The legal analysis uses applicable US case-law and statutes (which have been copied by many countries, and are similar to those of many common-law countries). Using Qualitative Reasoning, Capital Dynamics Theory (a new approach introduced in this book), Critical Theory and elements of Mechanism Design Theory, the book aims to enhance cross-disciplinary analysis of the above-mentioned issues; and to help researchers build better systems/Artificial-Intelligence/mathematical models in Financial Stability, Portfolio Management, Policy-Analysis, Asset Pricing, Contract Theory, Enforcement Theory and Fraud Detection. The primary audience for this book consists of university Professors, PHD students and PHD degree-holders (in industries, government agencies, financial services companies and research institutes). The book can be used as a primary or supplementary textbook for graduate courses in Regulation; Capital Markets; Law & Economics, International Political Economy and or Mechanism Design (Applied Math, Operations Research, Computer Science or Finance).

But after the bloodthirsty Sultan of Miraji imprisoned the Rebel Prince Ahmed in the mythical city of Eremot, she doesn't have a choice. Armed with only her revolver, her wits, and her untameable Demdji powers, Amani must rally her skeleton crew of rebels for a rescue mission through the unforgiving desert to a place that, according to maps, doesn't exist. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The papers in this volume address fundamental, and interrelated, philosophical issues concerning modality and identity, issues that have not only been pivotal to the development of analytic philosophy in the twentieth century, but remain a key focus of metaphysical debate in the twenty-first. How are we to understand the concepts of necessity and possibility? Is chance a basic ingredient of reality? How are we to make sense of claims about personal identity? Do numbers requiredistinctive identity criteria? Does the capacity to identify an object presuppose an ability to bring it under a sortal concept?Rather than presenting a single, partisan perspective, Identity and Modality enriches our understanding of identity and modality by bringing together papers written by leading researchers working in metaphysics, the philosophy of mind, the philosophy of science, and the philosophy of mathematics. The resulting variety of perspectives correspondingly reflects both the breadth and depth of contemporary theorizing about identity and modality, each paper addressing a particular issue andadvancing our knowledge of the area. This volume will provide essential reading for graduate students in the subject and professional philosophers.
