Book Synopsis Hilbert C*-Modules by : E. Christopher Lance
Download or read book Hilbert C*-Modules written by E. Christopher Lance and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1995-03-16 with total page 144 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hilbert C*-modules are objects like Hilbert spaces, except that the inner product, instead of being complex valued, takes its values in a C*-algebra. The theory of these modules, together with their bounded and unbounded operators, is not only rich and attractive in its own right but forms an infrastructure for some of the most important research topics in operator algebras. This book is based on a series of lectures given by Professor Lance at a summer school at the University of Trondheim. It provides, for the first time, a clear and unified exposition of the main techniques and results in this area, including a substantial amount of new and unpublished material. It will be welcomed as an excellent resource for all graduate students and researchers working in operator algebras.
Book Synopsis Hochschild Cohomology of Von Neumann Algebras by : Allan M. Sinclair
Download or read book Hochschild Cohomology of Von Neumann Algebras written by Allan M. Sinclair and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1995-03-09 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is an introductory text intended to give the non-specialist a comprehensive insight into the science of biotransformations. The book traces the history of biotransformations, clearly spells out the pros and cons of conducting enzyme-mediated versus whole-cell bioconversions, and gives a variety of examples wherein the bio-reaction is a key element in a reaction sequence leading from cheap starting materials to valuable end products.

As with the Proceedings of the earlier 'Groups-St Andrews' conferences it is hoped that the articles in these Proceedings will, with their many references, prove valuable both to experienced researchers and also to new postgraduates interested in group theory.
Book Synopsis Advanced Tools and Methods for Treewidth-Based Problem Solving by : M. Hecher
Download or read book Advanced Tools and Methods for Treewidth-Based Problem Solving written by M. Hecher and published by IOS Press. This book was released on 2022-11-15 with total page 252 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book, Advanced Tools and Methods for Treewidth-Based Problem Solving, contains selected results from the author’s PhD studies, which were carried out from 2015 to 2021. For his PhD thesis, Markus Hecher received the EurAI Dissertation Award 2021 and the GI Dissertation Award 2021, amongst others. The aim of the book is to present a new toolkit for using the structural parameter of treewidth to solve problems in knowledge representation and reasoning (KR) and artificial intelligence (AI), thereby establishing both theoretical upper and lower bounds, as well as methods to deal with treewidth efficiently in practice. The key foundations outlined in the book provide runtime lower bounds – under reasonable assumptions in computational complexity – for evaluating quantified Boolean formulas and logic programs which match the known upper bounds already published in 2004 and 2009. The general nature of the developed tools and techniques means that a wide applicability beyond the selected problems and formalisms tackled in the book is anticipated, and it is hoped that the book will serve as a starting point for future theoretical and practical investigations, which will no doubt establish further results and gain deeper insights.
Book Synopsis Locally Presentable and Accessible Categories by : Jiri Adamek (ing)
Download or read book Locally Presentable and Accessible Categories written by Jiri Adamek (ing) and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1994-03-10 with total page 334 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First the concepts of [lambda]-presentable objects, locally [lambda]-presentable categories, and [lambda]-accessible categories are discussed in detail. The authors go on to prove that Freyd's essentially algebraic categories are precisely the locally presentable categories. In the final chapter they treat some advanced topics in model theory. For researchers in category theory, algebra, computer science, and model theory, this book will be a necessary purchase.
