Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Whenweagreedtoshareallofourpreparationofexercisesinsamplingtheory to create a book, we were not aware of the scope of the work. It was indeed necessary to compose the information, type out the compilations, standardise the notations and correct the drafts. It is fortunate that we have not yet measured the importance of this project, for this work probably would never have been attempted! In making available this collection of exercises, we hope to promote the teaching of sampling theory for which we wanted to emphasise its diversity. The exercises are at times purely theoretical while others are originally from real problems, enabling us to approach the sensitive matter of passing from theory to practice that so enriches survey statistics. The exercises that we present were used as educational material at the École Nationale de la Statistique et de l’Analyse de l’Information (ENSAI), where we had successively taught sampling theory. We are not the authors of all the exercises. In fact, some of them are due to Jean-Claude Deville and Laurent Wilms. We thank them for allowing us to reproduce their exercises. It is also possible that certain exercises had been initially conceived by an author that we have not identi?ed. Beyondthe contribution of our colleagues, and in all cases, we do not consider ourselves to be the lone authors of these exercises:they actually form part of a common heritagefrom ENSAI that has been enriched and improved due to questions from students and the work of all the demonstrators of the sampling course at ENSAI.
Book Synopsis Functional and Operatorial Statistics by : Sophie Dabo-Niang
Download or read book Functional and Operatorial Statistics written by Sophie Dabo-Niang and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2008-05-21 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An increasing number of statistical problems and methods involve infinite-dimensional aspects. This is due to the progress of technologies which allow us to store more and more information while modern instruments are able to collect data much more effectively due to their increasingly sophisticated design. This evolution directly concerns statisticians, who have to propose new methodologies while taking into account such high-dimensional data (e.g. continuous processes, functional data, etc.). The numerous applications (micro-arrays, paleo- ecological data, radar waveforms, spectrometric curves, speech recognition, continuous time series, 3-D images, etc.) in various fields (biology, econometrics, environmetrics, the food industry, medical sciences, paper industry, etc.) make researching this statistical topic very worthwhile. This book gathers important contributions on the functional and operatorial statistics fields.

Book Synopsis Semiparametric Theory and Missing Data by : Anastasios Tsiatis
Download or read book Semiparametric Theory and Missing Data written by Anastasios Tsiatis and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2007-01-15 with total page 392 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book summarizes current knowledge regarding the theory of estimation for semiparametric models with missing data, in an organized and comprehensive manner. It starts with the study of semiparametric methods when there are no missing data. The description of the theory of estimation for semiparametric models is both rigorous and intuitive, relying on geometric ideas to reinforce the intuition and understanding of the theory. These methods are then applied to problems with missing, censored, and coarsened data with the goal of deriving estimators that are as robust and efficient as possible.

Book Synopsis FinTech in Financial Inclusion: Machine Learning Applications in Assessing Credit Risk by : Majid Bazarbash
Download or read book FinTech in Financial Inclusion: Machine Learning Applications in Assessing Credit Risk written by Majid Bazarbash and published by International Monetary Fund. This book was released on 2019-05-17 with total page 34 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recent advances in digital technology and big data have allowed FinTech (financial technology) lending to emerge as a potentially promising solution to reduce the cost of credit and increase financial inclusion. However, machine learning (ML) methods that lie at the heart of FinTech credit have remained largely a black box for the nontechnical audience. This paper contributes to the literature by discussing potential strengths and weaknesses of ML-based credit assessment through (1) presenting core ideas and the most common techniques in ML for the nontechnical audience; and (2) discussing the fundamental challenges in credit risk analysis. FinTech credit has the potential to enhance financial inclusion and outperform traditional credit scoring by (1) leveraging nontraditional data sources to improve the assessment of the borrower’s track record; (2) appraising collateral value; (3) forecasting income prospects; and (4) predicting changes in general conditions. However, because of the central role of data in ML-based analysis, data relevance should be ensured, especially in situations when a deep structural change occurs, when borrowers could counterfeit certain indicators, and when agency problems arising from information asymmetry could not be resolved. To avoid digital financial exclusion and redlining, variables that trigger discrimination should not be used to assess credit rating.

Download or read book Coping with Chaos written by Edward Ott and published by Wiley-VCH. This book was released on 1994-09-27 with total page 432 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first unified presentation of new developments in the analysis and exploitation of chaotic systems... Mathematicians have been aware of chaotic dynamics since Poincar?'s work at the turn of the century. But, as the turn of yet another century approaches, physical scientists and engineers have begun to use their understanding of chaos theory to analyze chaotic experimental time series data. Some researchers have even used the presence of chaos to achieve practical goals. To do this, they have had to work with dynamical processes for which the equations were either not known or were too complex to be useful. In other words, they have been coping with chaos. Coping with Chaos is the first book to bring together recent advances in the interpretive and practical applications of chaos, which hold great promise for broad applicability throughout the physical sciences and engineering. Together with an introduction to chaos theory, this book provides detailed reports on methods of analyzing experimental time series data from chaotic systems and studies in which the unique attributes of chaos are put to practical use. Topics discussed in this book include: * Theory of chaotic dynamics * Embedding techniques for the analysis of experimental data * Calculation of dimension and Lyapunov exponents * Determination of periodic orbits and symbolic dynamics * Prediction of chaotic time series * Noise filtering of chaotic data * Control of chaotic systems * The use of chaotic signals for communication * And more

Book Synopsis Generalized Structured Component Analysis by : Heungsun Hwang
Download or read book Generalized Structured Component Analysis written by Heungsun Hwang and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2014-12-11 with total page 346 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Developed by the authors, generalized structured component analysis is an alternative to two longstanding approaches to structural equation modeling: covariance structure analysis and partial least squares path modeling. Generalized structured component analysis allows researchers to evaluate the adequacy of a model as a whole, compare a model to alternative specifications, and conduct complex analyses in a straightforward manner. Generalized Structured Component Analysis: A Component-Based Approach to Structural Equation Modeling provides a detailed account of this novel statistical methodology and its various extensions. The authors present the theoretical underpinnings of generalized structured component analysis and demonstrate how it can be applied to various empirical examples. The book enables quantitative methodologists, applied researchers, and practitioners to grasp the basic concepts behind this new approach and apply it to their own research. The book emphasizes conceptual discussions throughout while relegating more technical intricacies to the chapter appendices. Most chapters compare generalized structured component analysis to partial least squares path modeling to show how the two component-based approaches differ when addressing an identical issue. The authors also offer a free, online software program (GeSCA) and an Excel-based software program (XLSTAT) for implementing the basic features of generalized structured component analysis.
Book Synopsis Approches non paramétriques en régression by : Jean-Jacques Droesbeke
Download or read book Approches non paramétriques en régression written by Jean-Jacques Droesbeke and published by Editions TECHNIP. This book was released on 2011 with total page 452 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Table des matières : 1. Les premiers pas de la régression. 2. Les estimateurs à noyaux. 3. Fonctions orthogonales. 4. Noyaux auto-reproduisants à base d’ondelettes. 5. Fonctions splines. 6. 13. La modélisation des courbes de croissance. 14. Modèles à direction révélatrice unique : application en économie.
