House of Representatives, Eighty-Seventh Congress, Second Session In June 1960 the committee published a document entitled The Federal Property Inventory Undertaking of the House Committee on Government Operations - Ah Endeavor To List Real and Per sonal Assets of the Federal Government on a Worldwide Basis A Long Overdue Accomplishment. The document set forth, in narrative history form, preparations involved in recording real and personal assets of the Federal Government, on a worldwide basis, as well as the accomplishments of the Committee on Government Operations from 1955 until 1960. It was prepared with the thought that such a compilation of data would be helpful to Members of Congress and others who were interested in studying and learning more about improved real property management and improved accounting control over an investment aggregating billions of dollars of taxpayers' money, represented in real and personal property inventories of our Government which are located throughout the world. Such a document serves also as a ready answ er to inquirers who wish to know how the inventory undertaking was conceived and the steps which were taken to obtain data in the compilation of an inventory report covering a magnitude of properties as are accounted for annually by the Committee on Government Operations. Each year the committee staff assigned to this project and the Government department and agency representatives working with it have delved further into the inventory accounting systems employed by the Federal departments and agencies in an effort to include assets previously omitted because of incomplete property records or for the reason that inventories were not under inventory accounting control.
