His cartoons are staples of countless magazines, newsletters, and websites. Now, more than 300 of his classics are available in a great new format, complete with a CD for easy copying and pasting. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A sweet middle-grade title about getting lost in a big family and unlikely friendship. Almost-twelve-year-old Sunday Fowler is a middle-of-the-middle child, and it's the absolute worst. Her sisters say she's too young. Her brothers say she's too old. And her parents remember the dog's name more often than they remember hers. But standing out is hard work when you have to help repair an old library and make sure your siblings don't steal your new best friend—or ruin all your plans. Then Sunday finds something in the library's basement that might make her so famous no one will forget her name ever again. But revealing her finding means stirring up secrets that some people in the town hoped to keep buried. Sunday must decide if some things—loyalty, trust, friendship—are worth more than her name in the headlines. A Summer of Sundays is a charming, funny celebration of family and finding friendship in unexpected places.

Book excerpt: "Things happen. Early in the world you travel into them. One day you rise without prayer in a far camp and silently hurry away. Having slept under stars and still breathing the greyed fire, who would take time to suppose this the middle of a lifetime?" -Emma Lou Warner Thayne "In view of the terrifying event with which it begins, it is a wonderful surprise to find the tremendous joy behind this book. It is everywhere suffused with Emma Lou Thayne's astonishing energy and capacity for love. She has found many lives inside herself, and teaches us to rejoice in that." -Henry Taylor, Pulitzer Prize winner "I think this book is Emma Lou's tour de force ... I couldn't put it down. Her 'voice' and spirit and visual poetic nature reached my heart and spirit, as if apart from my mind. The depth of her spirituality and belief in the goodness of people inspire me." -Stephen R. Covey, author, "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People" "In her poetry or prose, Emma Lou has the ability to make us laugh and likewise to cry-but always the unique ability to make us understand life a little better." -Olene S. Walker, first woman governor of Utah Knowing is a process, not an arrival. "The Place of Knowing: A Spiritual Autobiography" celebrates the spiritual-both seen and unseen-through the life of acclaimed writer and devout Mormon Emma Lou Warner Thayne. In this insightful, eloquently written memoir, Emma Lou-author of thirteen books of poetry, essays, and fiction-shares poignant personal anecdotes that begin with a terrifying near-death experience when, without warning, a six-pound iron rod smashed through a car windshield into her face. As she narrates her journey through her recovery process, she reflects on previous life experiences-from the daily to the sublime. Through both example and insight, she shares adventures while offering a calming presence for those who may fear death, yearn to know how to celebrate life, and crave direction on how to access the wonders of the divine. For anyone who has wondered about life after death or who desires a better understanding of his or her divine self, "The Place of Knowing" will inspire spiritual seekers everywhere to reach out in friendship to others and to embrace new experiences- ultimately discovering themselves in the process.

The book attempts to bring the exciting and dynamic world of mathematics to a non-technical audience. With so much focus today on how best to educate the new generation and make mathematics less rote and more interactive, this book is an eye-opening experience for many people who suffered with dull math teachers and curricula. Rediscovering Mathematics is an eclectic collection of mathematical topics and puzzles aimed at talented youngsters and inquisitive adults who want to expand their view of mathematics. By focusing on problem solving, and discouraging rote memorization, the book shows how to learn and teach mathematics through investigation, experimentation, and discovery. Rediscovering Mathematics is also an excellent text for training math teachers at all levels. Topics range in difficulty and cover a wide range of historical periods, with some examples demonstrating how to uncover mathematics in everyday life, including: number theory and its application to secure communication over the Internet, the algebraic and combinatorial work of a medieval mathematician Rabbi, and applications of probability to sports, casinos, and gambling. Rediscovering Mathematics provides a fresh view of mathematics for those who already like the subject, and offers a second chance for those who think they don't.

The means God has given to accomplish that is teaching. The church is at its best when it gives priority to ministries that teach. There is no greater place for this teaching than Sunday School. God has blessed churches that have a strong Sunday School program. May more churches give priority to this teaching arm in fulfilling the Great Commission.” - Michael Karns, Associate Pastor, Beacon Baptist Church, Burlington, NC “My wife and I have seen the value in a well-prepared, intentional Sunday School program in supplementing our efforts to raise our children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.” -Bobby LaTour, Former Student and Police Captain today

Book excerpt: Heartwarming true stories of lost dogs finding the way back home, relying entirely on amazing canine intelligence and instincts Four-Legged Miracles is a collection of wondrous lost-and-found canine sagas—actual Lassie, ComeHome tales—that highlight dogs' remarkable abilities to return home despite almost unbelievable odds. Brad and Sherry Steiger have collected dramatic, carefully documented true-life anecdotes that showcase canines' amazing intelligence, courage, and sometimes seemingly supernatural powers. Often, there are no sensible explanations for how the dogs overcome obstacles like natural disasters and fierce wilderness areas, predators, grievous injuries, and more to find their human families. These fascinating reunion stories include: --Mason, the white terrier who crawled home on two broken legs to what remained of his family's tornado-ravaged house --Buca, who sat on a hill over Utah's Rte. I-15 for two months waiting for the car he knew would bring him home --Eddie, the beagle, who walked 450 miles over four months to reunite with disabled four-year-old Jimmy, inspiring the boy to work harder on his own recovery. Four-Legged Miracles will tug on readers' heartstrings, but it will also discuss common reasons dogs disappear, how to get a missing dog back faster, the dog-human bond, and the science behind some of the amazing journeys these dogs endure. Chock-full of happy endings, Four-Legged Miracles lends insight into dogs' hearts and minds, and is a treat for any animal lover.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An intriguing spiritual memoir from an unusual woman. Centered on Thaynes near-death experience following a car accident when she was in her 60s, this autobiography contains thematic chapters that explore her changing beliefs about mortality through meditations on family, language and other daily concepts. As a Mormon grandmother, parts of Thaynes lifeher long marriage, religious devotion and large familyare seemingly typical for someone of her generation. However, Thayne is also a poet and writer, weaving many of her poems and other writings into the body of this work. Often, Thayne describes the two roles of homemaker and author as being at odds with one another, at least within her own mind. In addition to her active, fulfilling involvement in the Mormon Church, she characterizes her writing life as almost a personal struggle. In a major theme of the book, Thayne seeks to resolve the internal conflict she feels when torn between her vocation and her concerns about meeting outside expectations. Interestingly, she addresses this internal conflict by looking both into her Mormon heritage and out toward other spiritual traditions and lifestyles. Discussing her parents and grandparents, Thayne reveals their warmth and the absence of doctrinaire beliefs in her childhood home. Her description of everyday Mormonism could be compared to the womens Islam for Muslim writers like Fatima Mernissi and Leila Ahmed. However, in her search for enlightenment, Thayne isnt content merely focusing on previous generations of her own family. Instead, she visits healers, helps bring to light the work of artists with AIDS and recognizes many influences from outside her own community. As a result, shes a complex, evolving narrator, grappling slowly with her own expectations and the challenges of life. Her meditative, fluid narrative might not satisfy readers looking for an eventful, action-oriented story, but readers interested in the optimistic pursuit of spiritual development shouldnt miss this one. Gentle, inclusive ruminations sure to strike a chord.
