Book Synopsis Analysis of Low-Speed Unsteady Airfoil Flows by : Tuncer Cebeci
Download or read book Analysis of Low-Speed Unsteady Airfoil Flows written by Tuncer Cebeci and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-11-16 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The standard textbooks on aerodynamics usually omit any discussion of un steady aerodynamics or, at most, consider it only in a single chapter, based on two justifications. The first is that unsteady aerodynamics should be regarded as a specialized subject required "only" in connection with understanding and an alyzing aeroelastic phenomena such as flutter and gust response, and therefore should be dealt with in related specialist books. The second reason appears to be reluctance to discuss aerodynamics with the inclusion of the time-dependent terms in the conservation equations and the boundary conditions for fear that added complications may discourage the reader. We take the opposite view in this book and argue that a full understanding of the physics of lift generation is possible only by considering the unsteady aerody namics of the starting vortex generation process. Furthermore, certain "steady" flows are inherently unsteady in the presence of flow separation, as for example the unsteady flow caused by the Karman vortex shedding downstream of a cylin der and "static" airfoil stall which is an inherently unsteady flow phenomenon. Therefore, it stands to reason that a unified treatment of aerodynamics that yields steady-state aerodynamics as a special case offers advantages. This rea soning is strengthened by the developments in computational fluid dynamics over the past forty years, which showed that accurate steady-state solutions can be obtained efficiently by solving the unsteady flow equations.

Book Synopsis Handbook of Wind Energy Aerodynamics by : Bernhard Stoevesandt
Download or read book Handbook of Wind Energy Aerodynamics written by Bernhard Stoevesandt and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-08-04 with total page 1495 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This handbook provides both a comprehensive overview and deep insights on the state-of-the-art methods used in wind turbine aerodynamics, as well as their advantages and limits. The focus of this work is specifically on wind turbines, where the aerodynamics are different from that of other fields due to the turbulent wind fields they face and the resultant differences in structural requirements. It gives a complete picture of research in the field, taking into account the different approaches which are applied. This book would be useful to professionals, academics, researchers and students working in the field.
Book Synopsis Natural Laminar Flow and Laminar Flow Control by : R.W. Barnwell
Download or read book Natural Laminar Flow and Laminar Flow Control written by R.W. Barnwell and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 415 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Research on laminar flow and its transition to turbulent flow has been an important part of fluid dynamics research during the last sixty years. Since transition impacts, in some way, every aspect of aircraft performance, this emphasis is not only understandable but should continue well into the future. The delay of transition through the use of a favorable pressure gradient by proper body shaping (natural laminar flow) or the use of a small amount of suction (laminar flow control) was recognized even in the early 1930s and rapidly became the foundation of much of the laminar flow research in the U.S. and abroad. As one would expect, there have been many approaches, both theoretical and experimental, employed to achieve the substantial progress made to date. Boundary layer stability theories have been formu lated and calibrated by a good deal of wind tunnel and flight experiments. New laminar now airfoils and wings have been designed and many have been employed in aircraft designs. While the early research was, of necessity, concerned with the design of subsonic aircraft interest has steadily moved to higher speeds including those appropriate to planetary entry. Clearly, there have been substantial advances in our understanding of transition physics and in the development and application of transition prediction methodolo gies to the design of aircraft.
Book Synopsis Aerodynamic Characteristics of the NACA 747A315 and 747A415 Airfoils from Tests in the NACA Two-dimensional Low-turbulence Pressure Tunnel by : Albert E. Von Doenhoff

Von Doenhoff and published by . This book was released on 1944 with total page 24 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Summary: Two low-drag airfoils, the NACA 747A315 and the NACA 747A415, designed to have reduced pitching moments about the quarter-chord point and moderately high values of the design lift coefficient have been tested in the NACA two-dimensional low-turbulence pressure tunnel. Section lift, drag, and pitching-moment coefficients are presented for Reynolds numbers of 3 x 106, 6 x 106, and 9 x 106, together with section lift and section drag data for a Reynolds number of 6 x 106 for the same airfoils with roughened leading edges.

Book Synopsis An Introduction to Flapping Wing Aerodynamics by : Wei Shyy
Download or read book An Introduction to Flapping Wing Aerodynamics written by Wei Shyy and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2013-08-19 with total page 321 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is an ideal book for graduate students and researchers interested in the aerodynamics, structural dynamics and flight dynamics of small birds, bats and insects, as well as of micro air vehicles (MAVs), which present some of the richest problems intersecting science and engineering. The agility and spectacular flight performance of natural flyers, thanks to their flexible, deformable wing structures, as well as to outstanding wing, tail and body coordination, is particularly significant. To design and build MAVs with performance comparable to natural flyers, it is essential that natural flyers' combined flexible structural dynamics and aerodynamics are adequately understood. The primary focus of this book is to address the recent developments in flapping wing aerodynamics. This book extends the work presented in Aerodynamics of Low Reynolds Number Flyers (Shyy et al. 2008).
