Die Erwachsenenbildung arbeitet dabei mit unterschiedlichsten Begriffsbestimmungen für das Lernen zwischen oder von verschiedenen Kulturen. Diese sollen auch im ersten Kapitel einführend aufgeführt werden, um dann anhand ihrer Gemeinsamkeiten eine Basis für die weiteren Kapitel der Arbeit zu schaffen. Doch wie verfährt man in der Erwachsenenbildung, wenn Erwachsene, die in Filmen auftauchen, von- und miteinander in interkulturellen Kontexten lernen? Wie kann man diese Lernsituationen analysieren ohne von wissenschaftlichen Deutungsweisen abzuweichen? Dafür und für das Interkulturelle Lernen im Allgemeinen können einige Stufen- und Phasenmodelle interkulturellen/kulturellen Lernens hilfreich sein. Die vorliegende Arbeit geht auf drei dieser Modelle ein, das "Developmental Model of Intercultural Sensitivity" von Milton J. Bennett von 1993, das Stufenmodell von Harald Grosch und Wolf Rainer Leenen von 1998 und das Spiralmodell Interkulturellen Lernens von Gisela Führing von 1996 und. Diese drei Modelle legen unterschiedliche Abläufe für den Interkulturellen Lernprozess fest, weshalb sie in dieser Arbeit stellvertretend für zahlreiche Modelle Interkulturellen Lernens ausgewählt wurden. Sie werden zunächst vorgestellt und im Speziellen auf den Film "Fremder Freund" des Regisseurs Elmar Fischer aus dem Jahr 2003 angewendet. Sowohl die Analyse der Lernsituation im Film mithilfe des jeweiligen Modells als auch die abschließende Frage danach, wie die Erwachsenen im Film lernen, stehen dabei zur Debatte.
