Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The program of physics analysis using CLEO II data is reported. A statistically significant measurement was made of the isospin mass splitting of the?{sub c} with respect to the?{sub c}{sup o} and?{sub c}{sup ++}. This result is based on first observation of the?{sub c}+ in the decay mode?{sub c}+?°. Many new decay modes of the charmed baryon?{sub c}+ were studied. Several new decay modes of?{sub c}s̀. Some preliminary results on 3 new modes of?{sub c}° decay are reported. In the area of B-meson decay into baryons, were observed conclusively the decays B →?{sub c}° and?{sub c}{sup ++}. From about 1500 events corresponding to B →?{sub c}+X reconstruction of exclusive final states of the form?{sub c}+(n?) was started. A comprehensive investigation of particle identification using both the time-of-flight and dE/dx systems was made. Measurement of pion, kaon and proton identification efficiencies have been made, corresponding to several different selection criteria. Measurements of corresponding pion probabilities to fake kaons nd protons have also been made.

This book was released on 1989 with total page 1298 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cities and Their Vital Systems asks basic questions about the longevity, utility, and nature of urban infrastructures; analyzes how they grow, interact, and change; and asks how, when, and at what cost they should be replaced. Among the topics discussed are problems arising from increasing air travel and airport congestion; the adequacy of water supplies and waste treatment; the impact of new technologies on construction; urban real estate values; and the field of "telematics," the combination of computers and telecommunications that makes money machines and national newspapers possible.

Book Synopsis Elementary-Particle Physics by : National Research Council
Download or read book Elementary-Particle Physics written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 1998-05-01 with total page 212 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Part of the Physics in a New Era series of assessments of the various branches of the field, Elementary-Particle Physics reviews progress in the field over the past 10 years and recommends actions needed to address the key questions that remain unanswered. It explains in simple terms the present picture of how matter is constructed. As physicists have probed ever deeper into the structure of matter, they have begun to explore one of the most fundamental questions that one can ask about the universe: What gives matter its mass? A new international accelerator to be built at the European laboratory CERN will begin to explore some of the mechanisms proposed to give matter its heft. The committee recommends full U.S. participation in this project as well as various other experiments and studies to be carried out now and in the longer term.
