Book Synopsis Spectral method for fatigue damage estimation with non-zero mean stress by : Pedro H. Alves Corrêa
Download or read book Spectral method for fatigue damage estimation with non-zero mean stress written by Pedro H. Alves Corrêa and published by Editora Dialética. This book was released on 2022-08-01 with total page 68 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis consists of a fatigue study carried out on an aluminum alloy 2024-T3 in both time domain and frequency domain. Non-zero mean random signals of strain and stress are analyzed in time domain using usual Rainflow method and the damage is accumulated with the Palmgren-Miner rule, according to mean stress equations. The signals are analyzed in frequency domain using the power spectral density and the probability density function. The spectral domain analysis does not consider the negative effect of the mean stress in metal life under fatigue, so the correction factors for mean stresses developed by Goodman, Morrow, and Smith-Watson-Topper are used to change the power spectral density and, thus, the damage calculated by the probability density functions postulated by Dirlik and Tovo and Benasciutti. It is found that both Dirlik and Tovo and Benasciutti are non-conservative for a non-zero mean stress signal when comparing the damage to the one obtained in time domain analysis. When the spectral method is corrected, the results vary from Rainflow 4.9% for wide band and 6.8% for narrow band signals, always in the conservative zone, therefore predicting more damage. Tovo and Benasciutti 2 method is found to be the spectral function with the closest results when compared to the usual Rainflow method in time domain.

Book Synopsis Large Scale Renewable Power Generation by : Jahangir Hossain
Download or read book Large Scale Renewable Power Generation written by Jahangir Hossain and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2014-01-28 with total page 459 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book focuses on the issues of integrating large-scale renewable power generation into existing grids. The issues covered in this book include different types of renewable power generation along with their transmission and distribution, storage and protection. It also contains the development of medium voltage converters for step-up-transformer-less direct grid integration of renewable generation units, grid codes and resiliency analysis for large-scale renewable power generation, active power and frequency control and HVDC transmission. The emerging SMES technology for controlling and integrating large-scale renewable power systems is also discussed. Since the protection issues with large-scale distributed renewable power systems are different compared to the existing protection system for one way power flow, this book includes a new protection technique for renewable generators along with the inclusion of current status of smart grid. This book is a good reference for the researchers who are working the area of renewable power generation and smart grids.
