This book was released on 1993 with total page 8 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Focus of this project is on developing new approaches for hydrogenation of carbon monoxide to produce organic oxygenates at mild conditions. The strategies to accomplish CO reduction are based on favorable thermodynamics manifested by rhodium macrocycles for producing a series of intermediates implicated in the catalytic hydrogenation of CO. Metalloformyl complexes from reactions of H2 and CO, and CO reductive coupling to form metallo [alpha]-diketone species provide alternate routes to organic oxygenates that utilize these species as intermediates. Thermodynamic and kinetic-mechanistic studies are used in guiding the design of new metallospecies to improve the thermodynamic and kinetic factors for individual steps in the overall process. Electronic and steric effects associated with the ligand arrays along with the influences of the reaction medium provide the chemical tools for tuning these factors. Non-macrocyclic ligand complexes that emulate the favorable thermodynamic features associated with rhodium macrocycles, but that also manifest improved reaction kinetics are promising candidates for future development.

Book Synopsis Reductive Coupling of Carbon Monoxide to C2 Products. Progress Report for the Period, May 1, 1990--November 15, 1993 by :
Download or read book Reductive Coupling of Carbon Monoxide to C2 Products. Progress Report for the Period, May 1, 1990--November 15, 1993 written by and published by . This book was released on 1993 with total page 25 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This progress report covers the two broad areas of research addressed during the period since May 1, 1990. As proposed in 1989, studies of carbyne transformations have been pursued with a variety of carbyne substituents. Perhaps the most noteworthy carbyne results are also the simplest: preparation and properties of the parent M{triple_bond}CH unit. The other topic addressed with DOE support has metal nitrene chemistry as the cornerstone. Publications with iron, tungsten and copper complexes reflect our efforts to access intermediate oxidation state metal nitrene monomers. This new thrust was a central theme of the proposal submitted in 1989, and progress to date is sufficiently encouraging that detailed plans for expanding our nitrene project are an integral part of the accompanying proposal. References in this progress report are kept to a minimum; extensive references in the papers cited here place the work in perspective relative to the literature landscape.

Download or read book Transition Metal-mediated Thermal and Photochemical Carbon Dioxide Activation. Progress Report, March 15, 1990--March 14, 1991 written by and published by . This book was released on 1990 with total page 6 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Focus of this project is study of thermal (dark) and photochemical reactivity of carbon dioxide coordinated to transition metal centers. Our efforts are centered on defining the fundamental reactivity patterns of selected, structurally characterized [eta]-mononuclear CO2 complexes: (a) under thermal (dark) conditions towards external reagents including electrophiles, nucleophiles and radical reagents and (b) under photolytic conditions. Among the CO2 complexes to be examined are Cp2M([eta]2-CO2)L{sub n} [M=Mo, W, Cr, V (n=0); Ti (L=PR3) and Nb (L=CH2SiR3)]; (b) (R3P)2(RNC)Mo(CO2)2; (c) (R3P)2Ni(CO2); and relatives of these. These studies will model and may eventually lead to catalytic processes for carbon dioxide reduction and/or splitting.
