Book Synopsis Paleozoic Stratigraphy and Resources of the Michigan Basin by : G. Michael Grammer
Download or read book Paleozoic Stratigraphy and Resources of the Michigan Basin written by G. Michael Grammer and published by Geological Society of America. This book was released on 2018-04-12 with total page 346 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Michigan Basin is a classic intracratonic basin that has played a significant role in the fundamental understanding of geological processes in such basins, and has been an important resource for oil and gas, economic minerals, groundwater, and coal. Despite the classic nature of the Michigan Basin, there has not been a "special volume" dedicated to the basin in nearly 25 years. Since that time, new advancements in the geological sciences, particularly the utilization of high-resolution sequence stratigraphy and three-dimensional geostatistical modeling, have led to a new and more comprehensive understanding of the Paleozoic sedimentary packages of the Michigan Basin. This volume provides significant new insights of the Michigan Basin to both academic and applied geoscientists; it includes papers that discuss various aspects of the sedimentology and stratigraphy of key units within the basin, as well as papers that analyze the diverse distribution of natural resources present in this basin.

This book was released on 1980 with total page 169 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Published by the American Geophysical Union as part of the Geodynamics Series, Volume 1. The focus of the International Geodynamics Project, 1970–1979, was the movements of the surface and upper part of the earth's interior and it was recognized that most of the deformation occurs along narrow belts between the lithospheric plates. Also important to understanding earth process were those motions, primarily vertical that occurred within the plates, remote from plate boundaries. For this reason one of the 10 working groups set up in 1971 was working group 7 with the title "Eperogenic movements of regional extent" under the chairmanship of Dr. J. Tuzo Wilson. In 1974, after Dr. Wilson resigned following his retirement as Principal of Erindale College, University of Toronto, the Bureau of the Inter-Union Commission on Geodynamics appointed Dr. R. I. Walcott as chairman and the name of his working group was changed to "Dynamics of Plate Interiors". The objective of its programme was to determine the nature and origin of the dynamics of the more stable regions of the earth.

Book Synopsis Sedimentary Cover—North American Craton: U.S. by : L.L. Sloss
Download or read book Sedimentary Cover—North American Craton: U.S. written by L.L. Sloss and published by Geological Society of America. This book was released on with total page 525 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 'sedimentary cover' refers to the stratified rocks of youngest Proterozoic and Phanerozoic age that rest upon the largely crystalline basement rocks of the continental interior. This volume presents data and interpretations of the geophysics of the craton and summarizes the craton's tectonic evolution. It also presents the stratigraphy, structural history, and economic geology of specific sedimentary basins (e.g. Appalachian basin) and regions (e.g. Rocky Mountains). It concludes with a discussion of the currently popular theories of cratonal tectonics, & unresolved questions are identified.
