Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Divine Science: New Light Upon Old Truths; To All Who Seek More Light As the lessons in this book are designed to be studies upon the Science, or right knowledge of Divinity, the subject is taken from its starting point in the Divine, and step by step is it developed from the Source and Cause of all things. Therefore each study makes that which follows it plain, and it is decidedly important that the lessons be read, or studied rather, in their order. To one who has never had opportunity to study this truly Divine Science, we would suggest that they may find, by careful thought, a complete understanding of the principle and practice of the Science of Life, in these lessons. So we advise such, to lay aside questions at first; read each lesson to gain clearly the point considered in it; let all else alone. Read one lesson each day, or even on alternate days; reread often, until the subject of it is understood, before studying the next. By so doing, with out a teacher, the knowledge of the Science may be gained, and its practice understood. It will meet a need and find a cordial welcome in many places. If it is carefully studied, and the suggestions given in it are followed faithfully, there cannot fail to be the realization of great benefit by the one who thus earnestly applies himself. The one who reads in this way will have a much more definite grasp on the subject-matter and its application to daily problems, than will the one who reads more hurriedly. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Spiritual Life: Studies in the Science of Religion This question is already being raised, and it is bound to be asked more and more often and in louder and louder tones. It is no Sign of enmity toward the Church or of coldness toward Christianity, but rather an incident of the expanding spirituality of men who find in Jesus the final meaning of life, and in evan gelical Christianity the essential germ of future te ligious progress. This germ demands to be under stood. It is necessary to perceive that the problems here suggested do not concern matters of mere tem porary expediency. They go to the bottom of life they concern the very essence of religion, of reli gious forces, and of the mind in which religion lives and through which it works for the healing of the nations. If this be true there is not a ray of reasonable hope for the solution of these prob lems unless in some way - either by a happy hit of uninstructed zeal or else by definite knowledge of the psychical factors involved - we manage to put ourselves into line with the mind of man as it is. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Divine Travail in Nature, Man and the Bible: As Traced by Science and the Method of Christ In former works in the pursuit of truth, the chief object kept in View has been that of discovering in what way the light of science tends to make known to men Divine order and law, as conceived to be the Will of God. This has been done in the light Of the method of the teaching of Christ, as fully explained, and the results have been, as related to Nature, Man and the Bible, such as require the careful consideration of thoughtful men. It is assumed here that unity and harmony of thought have been attained in this direction; thus what is required atgthe present time is not the further study of that line of thought. It is, however, one thing to perceive that such agreement exists in the light of science and the method Of Christ, and to apply these conceptions to the more practical problems of life as these are studied by thoughtful men. When men by the inductive, or scientific, method of thought seek to discover truth, what they desire to know is the true relations that exist, what truly is and what ought to be they seek after definable order, and when that discovered order is verified, then this becomes law, what men ought ever to expect under similar conditions. The position which science has reached, as related to order and law in the physical world is unique in history it is not what men expected in fact, they have had revealed to them a new universe that transcends in glory all the experiences and empiric reasonings of men. It is true that science works for practical ends; but it can now be seen that the results of scientific work, in every direction, tend toward a perfect idealism an intellectual cosmic universe in which order and law are found to be regnant. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Divine Science and Healing To understand the height and depth and breadth of Truth expressed in these pages, it is essential that the student place him or herself at one with Infinite Omnipresent Spirit, and then know that the teaching has been formulated from the consciousness and realization of this oneness. A consciousness of the way creative power expresses itself in creation is also a knowledge of the power expressed in the Spoken Word; of how the Word becomes flesh and dwells among us and is full of grace and truth. Divine Science teaches that re-creation or re-generation is simply a repetition of God creating or generating. This brings us back to original Truth and proves that man, his nature, form and all is sourced in God. In the science of numbers an understanding of principle secures correct solution of every problem and produces a true example. In Divine Science a knowledge of the nature and infinitude of the One All secures truthful conclusions, right thought, word and deed, and demonstrates health, peace, and satisfaction. He who is uncertain hesitates, and he who hesitates is like a wave of the sea, agitated and tossed by the wind. - James, 1:6. He is like a ship at sea in thick darkness, attempting to make safe harbor without guidance from a beacon light, and is at the mercy of wind and wave. All who hesitate will find true anchorage for soul and body in the Truth of Divine Science. It points the way to wholeness for all to enjoy who will partake. This book is not intended as light reading, to be read and laid aside, but, instead, should be thoroughly studied and applied, which will bring perfect illumination. Book excerpt: 2013 Reprint of 1957 Edition. Full facsimile of the original edition, not reproduced with Optical Recognition Software. Compiled from "Truth and Health" by Fannie B. James and "Divine Science and Healing" by Malinda E. Cramer. The Church of Divine Science is a religious movement within the wider New Thought movement. The group was formalized in San Francisco in the 1880s under Malinda Cramer. "Divine Science" defines itself as "an organized teaching pertaining to God and the manifestation of God in Creation." It holds that its foundation truth is "that limitless Being, God, is Good, is equally present everywhere, and is the All of everything." It defines God as "pure Spirit, absolute, changeless, eternal, manifesting in and as all Creation, yet also transcending Creation" and that evil is therefore neither necessary nor permanent and has no reality within itself, but has existence only so long as human beings support it by believing in it. Like other New Thought churches, Divine Science considers healing very important, and emulates the work of Jesus Christ, who in the New Testament cures many people. The Denver Church's founder, Nona Brooks, stated, "The whole of Divine Science is the practice of the Presence of God. Truth comes through the Bible, Affirmative prayer, contemplation and meditation and the practice of the presence of God here and now."
