Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines argumental un-NPs and du/des-NPs in French: nominals with the indefinite article and with the so-called ‘partitive article’ respectively. The main aim is to account for the different interpretations of these indefinites and to determine how interpretation and structure are related. This study thus concerns the syntax-semantics interface, with an emphasis on the composition of the left periphery and the inflectional domain of the indefinites mentioned. It is realized in the framework of generative grammar and in a cartographic approach. A crucial proposal put forward in this book is that indefinites of different semantic types are associated with different left peripheries. The analysis further suggests that the inflectional domain of these indefinites may comprise three discrete functional projections encoding the features [count], [quantity] and [number]. Interestingly, these results seem to extend to a selection of bare nouns in Romance and Germanic languages.

Book excerpt: Updated with the changes to C#, Beginning C# 2008 Objects: From Concepts to Code introduces complete beginners to C# coding practice with a solid methodological foundation written by two critically–acclaimed experts in the field, already authors of the best–selling Beginning C# Objects. By building from first principles in object–oriented terminology, then advancing through application design with Unified Modeling Language (UML) into practical examples, Beginning C# 2008 Objects: From Concepts to Code provides a foundational guide written from the perspective of two experienced, working authorities on C#. Working coders will benefit from the object–oriented cast of the book and its section on use–case modeling. This is the book to read if you want to deepen and advance your existing professional development in C# with an eye towards advancing out of pure coding work. For the reader wishing to “simply learn C#”, this book will provide exactly that. In addition to listing code and syntax, Beginning C# 2008 Objects: From Concepts to Code also walks you through the design and architecting of a functioning C# application, showing the “why” and the “how” of the development decisions that go into professional C# coding.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides ways of thinking about the teaching of writing in secondary schools (with applications to college writing) and shares research-based strategies for immediate use in the classroom. The strengths-based, classroom-tested, student-centered writing hope strategies shared within the Writing Hope Framework (WHF) are designed to allow students to work within their own unique writing processes and insert their individual writers’ voices and styles authentically. The Writing Hope Framework allows students to choose which strategies and stages of the writing process they wish to engage in for purposeful writing goal attainment; it recognizes unique writing approaches and accounts for these differences in curricular design and implementation. Teachers can assess the writing abilities and self-beliefs of the students in their classes using a variety of strategies provided and then guide students in their pathways selection processes for writing. Given the nature of this research and its application, it is the intention of this book to bring readers through a process of hope that can facilitate life hope and writing hope in the classroom for and with students. Hope is not exclusively for the already hopeful students; it is also, and perhaps more critically, for those students who do not presently see hope in their lives but who can. Every student is capable of hope if it is facilitated effectively and purposefully.
