Book Synopsis Introduction to Quantum Mechanics 2 by : Ibrahima Sakho
Download or read book Introduction to Quantum Mechanics 2 written by Ibrahima Sakho and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2020-01-09 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Quantum mechanics is the foundation of modern technology, due to its innumerable applications in physics, chemistry and even biology. This second volume studies Schrödingers equation and its applications in the study of wells, steps and potential barriers. It examines the properties of orthonormal bases in the space of square-summable wave functions and Dirac notations in the space of states. This book has a special focus on the notions of the linear operators, the Hermitian operators, observables, Hermitian conjugation, commutators and the representation of kets, bras and operators in the space of states. The eigenvalue equation, the characteristic equation and the evolution equation of the mean value of an observable are introduced. The book goes on to investigate the study of conservative systems through the time evolution operator and Ehrenfests theorem. Finally, this second volume is completed by the introduction of the notions of quantum wire, quantum wells of semiconductor materials and quantum dots in the appendices.

Download or read book Introduction to Quantum Mechanics 1 written by Ibrahima Sakho and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2019-12-12 with total page 344 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The conception of lasers and optoelectronic devices such as solar cells have been made possible, thanks to the modern day mastery of processes that harness the interaction of electromagnetic radiation with matter. This first volume is dedicated to thermal radiation and experimental facts that reveal the quantification of matter. The study of black body radiation allows the introduction of fundamental precepts such as Plancks law and the energy-related qualities that characterize radiation. The properties of light and wave–particle duality are also examined, based on the interpretation of light interferences, the photoelectric effect and the Compton effect. This book goes on to investigate the hydrogen atomic emission spectrum and how it dovetails into our understanding of quantum numbers to describe the energy, angular momentum, magnetic moment and spin of an electron. A look at the spectroscopic notation of the states explains the different wavelengths measured from the splitting of spectral lines. Finally, this first volume is completed by the study of de Broglies wave theory and Heisenbergs uncertainty principle, which facilitated the advancement of quantum mechanics.

Book Synopsis Quantum Mechanics by : James T. Cushing
Download or read book Quantum Mechanics written by James T. Cushing and published by University of Chicago Press. This book was released on 1994-11 with total page 338 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Why does one theory "succeed" while another, possibly clearer interpretation, fails? By exploring two observationally equivalent yet conceptually incompatible views of quantum mechanics, James T. Cushing shows how historical contingency can be crucial to determining a theory's construction and its position among competing views. Since the late 1920s, the theory formulated by Niels Bohr and his colleagues at Copenhagen has been the dominant interpretation of quantum mechanics. Yet an alternative interpretation, rooted in the work of Louis de Broglie in the early 1920s and reformulated and extended by David Bohm in the 1950s, equally well explains the observational data. Through a detailed historical and sociological study of the physicists who developed different theories of quantum mechanics, the debates within and between opposing camps, and the receptions given to each theory, Cushing shows that despite the preeminence of the Copenhagen view, the Bohm interpretation cannot be ignored. Cushing contends that the Copenhagen interpretation became widely accepted not because it is a better explanation of subatomic phenomena than is Bohm's, but because it happened to appear first. Focusing on the philosophical, social, and cultural forces that shaped one of the most important developments in modern physics, this provocative book examines the role that timing can play in the establishment of theory and explanation.

Book Synopsis La physique des réacteurs nucléaires (2e ed) by : MARGUET Serge
Download or read book La physique des réacteurs nucléaires (2e ed) written by MARGUET Serge and published by Lavoisier. This book was released on 2013-10-18 with total page 1344 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Synopsis Foundations And Interpretation Of Quantum Mechanics: In The Light Of A Critical-historical Analysis Of The Problems And Of A Synthesis Of The Results by : Gennaro Auletta
Download or read book Foundations And Interpretation Of Quantum Mechanics: In The Light Of A Critical-historical Analysis Of The Problems And Of A Synthesis Of The Results written by Gennaro Auletta and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2000-06-15 with total page 1015 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The aim of this book is twofold: to provide a comprehensive account of the foundations of the theory and to outline a theoretical and philosophical interpretation suggested from the results of the last twenty years. There is a need to provide an account of the foundations of the theory because recent experience has largely confirmed the theory and offered a wealth of new discoveries and possibilities. On the other side, the following results have generated a new basis for discussing the problem of the interpretation: the new developments in measurement theory; the experimental generation of “Schrödinger cats”; recent developments which allow, for the first time, the simultaneous measurement of complementary observables; quantum information processing, teleportation and computation. To accomplish this task, the book combines historical, systematic and thematic approaches.
