Book Synopsis Architecturally Exposed Structural Steel by : Terri Meyer Boake
Download or read book Architecturally Exposed Structural Steel written by Terri Meyer Boake and published by Birkhäuser. This book was released on 2015-02-17 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides the means for a better control and purposeful consideration of the design of Architecturally Exposed Structural Steel (AESS). It deploys a detailed categorization of AESS and its uses according to design context, building typology and visual exposure. In a rare combination, this approach makes high quality benchmarks compatible with economies in terms of material use, fabrication methods, workforce and cost. Building with exposed steel has become more and more popular worldwide, also as advances in fire safety technology have permitted its use for building tasks under stringent fire regulations. On her background of long standing as a teacher in architectural steel design affiliated with many institutions, the author ranks among the world‘s best scholars on this topic. Among the fields covered by the extensive approach of this book are the characteristics of the various categories of AESS, the interrelatedness of design, fabrication and erection of the steel structures, issues of coating and protection (including corrosion and fire protection), special materials like weathering steel and stainless steel, the member choices and a connection design checklist. The description draws on many international examples from advanced contemporary architecture, all visited and photographed by the author, among which figure buildings like the Amgen Helix Bridge in Seattle, the Shard Observation Level in London, the New York Times Building and the Arganquela Footbridge.

Download or read book Structural Steel Design written by Abi O. Aghayere and published by Mercury Learning and Information. This book was released on 2020-01-23 with total page 1363 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Structural Steel Design, Third Edition is a simple, practical, and concise guide to structural steel design – using the Load and Resistance Factor Design (LRFD) and the Allowable Strength Design (ASD) methods -- that equips the reader with the necessary skills for designing real-world structures. Civil, structural, and architectural engineering students intending to pursue careers in structural design and consulting engineering, and practicing structural engineers will find the text useful because of the holistic, project-based learning approach that bridges the gap between engineering education and professional practice. The design of each building component is presented in a way such that the reader can see how each element fits into the entire building design and construction process. Structural details and practical example exercises that realistically mirror what obtains in professional design practice are presented. Features: - Includes updated content/example exercises that conform to the current codes (ASCE 7, ANSI/AISC 360-16, and IBC) - Adds coverage to ASD and examples with ASD to parallel those that are done LRFD - Follows a holistic approach to structural steel design that considers the design of individual steel framing members in the context of a complete structure. Book Synopsis Design of Steel Structures by : Elias G. Abu-Saba
Download or read book Design of Steel Structures written by Elias G. Abu-Saba and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 404 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is intended for classroom teaching in architectural and civil engineering at the graduate and undergraduate levels. Although it has been developed from lecture notes given in structural steel design, it can be useful to practicing engineers. Many of the examples presented in this book are drawn from the field of design of structures. Design of Steel Structures can be used for one or two semesters of three hours each on the undergraduate level. For a two-semester curriculum, Chapters 1 through 8 can be used during the first semester. Heavy emphasis should be placed on Chapters 1 through 5, giving the student a brief exposure to the consideration of wind and earthquakes in the design of buildings. With the new federal requirements vis a vis wind and earthquake hazards, it is beneficial to the student to have some under standing of the underlying concepts in this field. In addition to the class lectures, the instructor should require the student to submit a term project that includes the complete structural design of a multi-story building using standard design procedures as specified by AISC Specifications. Thus, the use of the AISC Steel Construction Manual is a must in teaching this course. In the second semester, Chapters 9 through 13 should be covered. At the undergraduate level, Chapters 11 through 13 should be used on a limited basis, leaving the student more time to concentrate on composite construction and built-up girders.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The seventh edition of Simplified Design of Steel Structures is an excellent reference for architects and engineers who need information about the common uses of steel for the structures of buildings. The clear and concise format benefits readers who have limited backgrounds in mathematics and engineering. This new edition has been updated to reflect changes in standards, industry technology, and construction practices, including new research in the field, examples of general building structural systems, and the use of computers in structural design. Specifically, Load and Resistance Factor Design (LRFD) and Allowable Stress Design (ASD) are now covered.
Book Synopsis Design of Steel Structures by : Luís Simões da Silva
Download or read book Design of Steel Structures written by Luís Simões da Silva and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2012-01-09 with total page 391 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book introduces the fundamental design concept of Eurocode 3 for current steel structures in building construction, and their practical application. Following a discussion of the basis of design, including the principles of reliability management and the limit state approach, the material standards and their use are detailed. The fundamentals of structural analysis and modeling are presented, followed by the design criteria and approaches for various types of structural members. The theoretical basis and checking procedures are closely tied to the Eurocode requirements. The following chapters expand on the principles and applications of elastic and plastic design, each exemplified by the step-by-step design calculation of a braced steel-framed building and an industrial building, respectively. Besides providing the necessary theoretical concepts for a good understanding, this manual intends to be a supporting tool for the use of practicing engineers. In order of this purpose, throughout the book, numerous worked examples are provided, concerning the analysis of steel structures and the design of elements under several types of actions. These examples will facilitate the acceptance of the code and provide for a smooth transition from earlier national codes to the Eurocode.
