This book was released on 2013-12-12 with total page 813 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The degree of development reached by cooperatives of different sectors throughout the world, which among others led to the UN declaring 2012 as the International Year of Cooperatives, needs to be accompanied by a similar development of corresponding legislation. To this end, a better knowledge of cooperative law from the comparative point of view, as has already been established for other types of enterprises, becomes of great importance. This book strives to fill this gap, and is divided into four parts. The first part offers an analytic and conceptual framework with which to understand, study and assess cooperative law from a transnational and comparative perspective. The second part includes several chapters dealing with attempts to harmonize cooperative laws. The third part contains an overview of more than 30 national cooperative laws, while the last part summarizes and compares these national cooperative laws, thus laying the foundation for a comparative cooperative law doctrine.

Download or read book Co-operatives and Poverty Alleviation written by Jovin A. Banturaki and published by Tema Publishers Company. This book was released on 2000 with total page 190 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Before the co-operative disbandment in 1976 co-ops were recognised as rural development promoters and vehicles for rural transformation. However since the co-operative re-establishment in 1982 to the present time that previous identity has been greatly eroded due to operational setbacks, mismanagement, confusion, and misdirection. This book is the result of a study of twenty-four randomly selected primary co-op societies in four regions. Part one introduces the study giving background information on the research problem and question, and outlines the objectives and hypotheses, the research methodology, and the main features of the sample population. Part two deals with co-operative theory and the practice of co-operation. The research findings and accompanying analysis make up the third party and the majority of the study, while the fourth part discusses the studies results paying particular attention to cop-operative potential in rural development and the governments efforts towards the co-op revival. The fifth part concludes with recommendations on emerging policy implications and on the future of co-ops as instruments for poverty alleviation.

Book Synopsis A Global History of Consumer Co-operation since 1850 by :
Download or read book A Global History of Consumer Co-operation since 1850 written by and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2017-07-03 with total page 877 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With contributions from over 30 scholars, A Global History of Consumer Co-operation surveys the origins and development of the consumer co-operative movement from the mid-nineteenth century until the present day. The contributions, covering the history of co-operation in different national contexts in Europe, the Americas, Asia and Australasia, illustrate the wide variety of forms that consumer co-operatives have taken; the different political, economic and social contexts in which they have operated; the ideological influences on their development; and the reasons for their expansion and decline at different times. The book also explores the connections between co-operatives in different parts of the world, challenging assumptions that the story of global co-operation can be traced exclusively to the 1844 Rochdale Co-operative Society. Book Synopsis A Global History of Co-operative Business by : Greg Patmore
Download or read book A Global History of Co-operative Business written by Greg Patmore and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-04-17 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Co-operatives provide a different approach to organizing business through their ideals of member ownership and democratic practice. Every co-operative member has an equal vote regardless of his or her own personal capital investment. The contemporary significance of co-operatives was highlighted by the United Nations declaration of 2012 as the International Year of Co-operatives. This book provides an international perspective on the development of co-operatives since the mid-nineteenth century, exploring the economic, political, and social factors that explain their varying fortunes and transformation into different forms. By looking at what co-operatives are; how they have changed; the developments as well as the persecutions of the co-operative movement; and how it is an important force in promoting development and self-sufficiency in non-industrialized areas, this book provides valuable insight not only to academics, but also to practitioners and policy makers.

Book excerpt: Replete with case studies, Waking the Asian Pacific Cooperative Potential applies a novel theoretical framework to aid in understanding meaningful change in cooperative firms, mutual firms, collectives, and communes, focusing in particular on the underexamined Asia Pacific region. It explores the common, albeit competing, objectives of transformational cooperatives that deliver a range of social benefits and corporative coops where the cooperative exhibits the characteristics of a competitive investor firm. Waking the Asian Pacific Co-operative Potential provides early-career researchers and graduate students with a systematic resource of cooperatives in the Asia Pacific, highlighting core lessons from case studies regarding the ideal role of cooperatives in a modern economy and on the enabling factors of the role of the state, the market potential for scale-up, the mitigation of poverty, and civil society. - Provides numerous case studies drawn from successful co-operative organizations across the Asia Pacific region - Advances a theoretical framework to help readers access and understand the reasons for co-operative success in the Asia Pacific region - Develops tools for practitioners to establish effective co-operatives and restructure them to optimal goals
