Book Synopsis Petroleum Geology of the North Sea by : K. W. Glennie
Download or read book Petroleum Geology of the North Sea written by K. W. Glennie and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2009-06-29 with total page 656 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the 3rd edition of this publication, emphasis within the petroleum industry has shifted from exploration to appraisal and development of existing hydrocarbon resources. This change is reflected in this new 4th edition, which has been significantly expanded to accomodate additional material. The centrepiece of the book, however, remains a series of descriptions, in stratigraphic order, of the depositional history and hydrocarbon related rock units of the North Sea.

Book Synopsis Reactive Flow Modeling of Hydrothermal Systems by : Michael Kühn
Download or read book Reactive Flow Modeling of Hydrothermal Systems written by Michael Kühn and published by Springer. This book was released on 2004-03-24 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book introduces the topic of geochemical modeling of fluids in subsurface and hydrothermal systems. The intention is to serve as a textbook for graduate students in aqueous, environmental and groundwater geochemistry, despite the fact that its focus is on the special topic of geochemistry in hydrothermal systems, it also provides new insights for experienced researchers with respect to the topic of reactive transport. The overall purpose is to give the reader an understanding of the processes that control the chemical composition of waters in hydrothermal systems and to highlight the interfaces between chemistry, geothermics and hydrogeology. From the reviews: "..is a nice, compact introduction to the principles of modeling coupled fluid flow and fluid-mineral reactions in active geothermal systems, as used for heating and electricity generation." Book Synopsis Sedimentary Facies Reconstruction and Kinematic Restoration of Tight Gas Fields by : Anna Alexandra Vackiner
Download or read book Sedimentary Facies Reconstruction and Kinematic Restoration of Tight Gas Fields written by Anna Alexandra Vackiner and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-20 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The thesis of Anna Alexandra Vackiner focuses on the geometric architecture and tectonic evolution of the Permian series, combining seismic interpretation (3D block), field studies in an analogue basin (Panamint Valley in California), as well as 2D restoration of representative cross sections through time in order to illustrate the complex interaction between multiphase extension, inversion and salt diapirism. It will be of major interest for exploration geologists involved in tectonically complex areas. - François Roure, August 2012 This thesis improves the understanding and localization of the Upper Rotliegend II tight gas reservoir rock facies. It provides insights into the detailed Upper Rotliegend II palaeo-topography and local tectonically induced sediment thickness changes prior to a multi-phase tectonic overprinting. The research presented in this study further focuses on the tectonically induced synsedimentary facies distribution in transtensional continental settings on the basis of a comparison with a modern field analogue, which enables a detailed analysis of the reservoir rock’s distribution and its properties. The study is rounded off with an analysis of the influence of the multiphase tectonic overprinting on the mature Upper Rotliegend II reservoir rocks.
Book Synopsis Geology of the Netherlands by : Theo Edward Wong
Download or read book Geology of the Netherlands written by Theo Edward Wong and published by Edita-The Publishing House of the Royal. This book was released on 2007 with total page 372 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Netherlands, like much of the world, is struggling to balance the development of natural resources like oil and coal with its commitment to environmental preservation. In the landmark study Geology of the Netherlands, a team of expert geologists presents an overview of the Low Countries' geology as well as contemporary problems the land faces. This lavishly illustrated volume examines the stratigraphy and structural setting of the Netherlands from the Pre-Silesian to the Quaternary eras; it will be an essential resource for geologists, engineers, and students.
Book Synopsis Dynamics of Complex Intracontinental Basins by : Ralf Littke
Download or read book Dynamics of Complex Intracontinental Basins written by Ralf Littke and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2008-08-11 with total page 528 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sedimentary basins host, among others, most of our energy and fresh-water resources: they can be regarded as large geo-reactors in which many physical and chemical processes interact. Their complexity can only be well understood in well-organized interdisciplinary co-operations. This book documents how researchers from different geo-scientific disciplines have jointly analysed the structural, thermal, and sedimentary evolution as well as fluid dynamics of a complex sedimentary basin system which has experienced a variety of activation and reactivation impulses as well as intense salt tectonics. In this book we have summarized our geological, geophysical and geochemical understanding of some of the most important processes affecting sedimentary basins in general and our view on the evolution of one of the largest, best explored and most complex continental sedimentary basins on Earth: The Central European Basin System.
Download or read book The Ice Age written by Jürgen Ehlers and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-08-19 with total page 412 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nothing new from the Ice Age? Far from it! Barely ten years have passed since the first edition of this book was published, but in that time researchers around the world have developed new methods and published their findings in scientific journals. Consequently, ideas about the course of the Ice Age have changed dramatically. The sequence of the individual ice advances, the direction of ice movement and the direction of meltwater drainage are only partially known, but they can be reconstructed. This book offers in-depth information about the state of the investigations. Ice ages are the periods of the earth's history in which at least one polar region is glaciated or covered by sea ice. Thus, we are currently living in an Ice Age. The present Ice Age is also the period in which humans started to intervene in the shaping of the earth. The results are obvious. Aerial and satellite images can be used to trace the melting of glaciers, but also the decay of the Arctic permafrost, and the clearing of the Brazilian rainforest. This book is a translation of the original German 2nd edition Das Eiszeitalter by Juergen Ehlers, published by Springer-Verlag GmbH Germany, part of Springer Nature, in 2020. The translation was done with the help of artificial intelligence (machine translation by DeepL.com). A subsequent human revision was done primarily in terms of content, so that the book will read stylistically differently from a conventional translation. Springer Nature works continuously to further the development of tools for the production of books and promotes technologies to support the authors.
