This book was released on 1995 with total page 600 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Regulation of the process of transcriptional elongation is an important control mechanism in the expression of some genes. To fully understand this form of regulation will require better understanding of the functions of transcription elongation factors. The goal of this work was to characterize the transcription elongation factor TFIIS from Saccharomyces cerevisiae, originally called P37. I demonstrated that, like the mammalian TFIIS proteins, the yeast protein stimulates RNA polymerase II to cleave the nascent RNA transcript and to read-through an intrinsic block to elongation. Investigation of the protein-protein contacts between TFIIS and RNA polymerase II indicated that the carboxyl-terminal domain of the largest subunit, subunit four, and subunit seven of the polymerase are not required for TFIIS to promote cleavage and read-through by the polymerase. In addition the carboxyl-terminal half of the yeast TFIIS protein is sufficient for both of these in vitro activities. This result is consistent with the previous results demonstrating the carboxyl-terminus of mouse TFIIS was sufficient to activate RNA polymerase in vitro.

This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 1010 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This up-to-date guide focuses on the understanding of key regulatory mechanisms governing gene expression in Escherichia coli. Studies of E. coli not only provide the first models of gene regulation, but research continues to yield different control mechanisms.
Book Synopsis Nucleic Acid Polymerases: The Two-Metal-Ion Mechanism and Beyond by : Whitney Yin

This book was released on 2022-10-04 with total page 118 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: olymerases are the nucleotidyl transferases that are responsible for synthesizing DNA and RNA. They are crucial for essential cellular processes including cellular and viral genome replication, DNA repair and damage tolerance, and transcription. Consistent with their vital roles, polymerases are found in all domains of life. The overall chemistry employed by these enzymes is conserved but there are variations among the different groups of polymerases that confer different substrate specificities and nucleotide incorporation fidelities that allow them to be involved in a wide array of cellular activities. Since polymerases were first isolated more than six decades ago, we have made great progress in understanding how different polymerases have adapted to their specific roles. In this Research Topic we will focus on the enzymatic mechanisms of these enzymes and the relationships between polymerase structure and mechanism, to highlight common themes and unique adaptations.
Book Synopsis Progress in Nucleic Acid Research and Molecular Biology by : Kivie Moldave

Offers an up-to-date and authoritative resource that covers the entire field of microbiology, from basic principles, to applied technologies Provides an organic overview that is useful to academic teachers and scientists from different backgrounds Includes chapters that are enriched with figures and graphs, and that can be easily consulted in isolation to find fundamental definitions and concepts
Book Synopsis RNA Structure and Function by : Robert W. Simons
Download or read book RNA Structure and Function written by Robert W. Simons and published by . This book was released on 1998 with total page 764 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The striking functional versatility of RNA is attributable to its remarkable capacity for conformational change. Current models of RNA synthesis, its maturation, translation and degradation are all based on specific structures and there is growing appreciation of the functional importance of interactions between RNA and RNA-binding proteins. This work identifies the major intellectual and technical advances in understanding the part played by structure in how RNA works. It encompasses the experimental approaches used to define RNA structure and its influence on RNA functions such as transcription termination, catalysis, recoding and translational control. Investigators with these interests and students of molecular biology should find this volume a provocative survey of a rapidly-advancing field and a valuable complement to the monograph, The RNA World.
