Book Synopsis Statics and Mechanics of Structures by : Steen Krenk
Download or read book Statics and Mechanics of Structures written by Steen Krenk and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-02 with total page 511 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The statics and mechanics of structures form a core aspect of civil engineering. This book provides an introduction to the subject, starting from classic hand-calculation types of analysis and gradually advancing to a systematic form suitable for computer implementation. It starts with statically determinate structures in the form of trusses, beams and frames. Instability is discussed in the form of the column problem - both the ideal column and the imperfect column used in actual column design. The theory of statically indeterminate structures is then introduced, and the force and deformation methods are explained and illustrated. An important aspect of the book’s approach is the systematic development of the theory in a form suitable for computer implementation using finite elements. This development is supported by two small computer programs, MiniTruss and MiniFrame, which permit static analysis of trusses and frames, as well as linearized stability analysis. The book’s final section presents related strength of materials subjects in greater detail; these include stress and strain, failure criteria, and normal and shear stresses in general beam flexure and in beam torsion. The book is well-suited as a textbook for a two-semester introductory course on structures.

To show the performance of the methods of analysis of the hyperstatic structures, some beams, gantries and reticular structures are selected and subjected to a comparative study by the different methods of analysis of the hyperstatic structures. This procedure provides an insight into the methods of analysis of the structures.

This book was released on 1918 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Frames made up of rectangular elements are usually statically indeterminate, i.e. the stresses in them can be found only by taking into account the relative stiffness and deformation of the various members. The common use of rectangular frames in engineering structures makes it highly desirable that the most convenient methods of analyzing their stresses should be developed. The stresses in a number of such rectangular frames have been analyzed in this research, and this report describes the methods used and presents the formulas derived.

This book was released on 2011-05-20 with total page 331 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Concrete as a construction material goes through both physical and chemical changes under extreme elevated temperatures. As one of the most widely used building materials, it is important that both engineers and architects are able to understand and predict its behavior in under extreme heat conditions. Brief and readable, this book provides the tools and techniques to properly analysis the effects of high temperature of reinforced concrete which will lead to more stable, safer structures. Based on years of the author's research, Reinforced Concrete at Elevated Temperatures four part treatment starts with an unambiguous and thorough exposition of the mechanical behaviors of materials at elevated temperature followed by a discussion of Temperature field of member sections, Mechanical behaviors of members and structures at elevated temperature, ending with Theoretical analysis and practical calculation methods. The book provides unique insight into: - Coupling thermal-mechanical constitutive relation of concrete - Exceptional analyses of beams and columns of rectangular section with three surfaces and two adjacent surfaces exposing to high temperature - Measurement and analysis of redistribution of internal forces of statically indeterminate structure during heating-loading process - Finite element analysis and calculation charts for two-dimensional temperature field of structural members - Finite element analysis and simplified calculation method for reinforced concrete structure at elevated temperature With this book, engineers and architects can effectively analyze the effect of high temperature on concrete and materials which will lead to better designs of fire resistant and damage evaluation and treatment after fire. - Tools and techniques for analyzing the effects of high temperature on concrete and reinforcement materials - Measurement and analysis of redistribution of internal forces of statically indeterminate structure during the heating-loading process - Finite element analysis and calculation charts for two-dimensional temperature field of structural members - Finite element analysis and simplified calculation method for reinforced concrete structure at elevated temperature

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book builds the subject from a foundation that static equilibrium occurs when the rate of change of work done by the load is equal to the rate of change of strain energy in the structure, Energy methods are a powerful tool for the stress analysis of loaded structures. This book builds the subject from a foundation that static equilibrium occurs when the rate of change of work done by the load is equal to the rate of change of strain energy in the structure. Advanced applications of the method are easily developed from this fundamental principle by partial differentiation of the appropriate terms. The methods solve linear problems, statically indeterminate structures, non-linear problems, frames and the derivation of stiffness matrices used in finite element analysis. Critical buckling loads for struts, plates and panels are modelled by comparison of the strain energy stored in the unbuckled and buckled shapes. This method develops an interesting discussion on the theory of buckling of a long slender strut which is additional to those in traditional texts. Post buckling stiffness of plates and panels are modelled using assumed shapes for strain energy calculation. The presentation offers a clear reasoning leading to analysis possibilities not seen in traditional texts which espouse concepts of virtual work, minimum potential energy, complementary energy, and the unit load method.
