Book excerpt: The Panic of 2008 brings together scholars from a variety of disciplines to examine the causes and consequences of the global credit crisis, the subsequent collapse of the financial markets, and the following recession. The book evaluates the crisis in historical context, explores its various legal, economic, and financial dimensions, and considers various possibilities for reform. The Panic of 2008 is one of the first in-depth efforts to study the crisis as it was in the very earliest stage of resolution, and establishes a foundation for thinking about and evaluating current reform efforts and the likelihood of recurrence. This is a thorough and detailed examination by leading scholars from law, history, finance and economics and as such will be of great interest to the scholarly and academic communities of legal academicians, financial historians, financial economists, and economists. General readers engaged with the ramifications of the financial crisis, including practising lawyers, policymakers, and financial and business professionals, will also find the book invaluable and useful.

In The New Financial Deal, author David Skeel offers an in-depth look at the new financial reforms and questions whether they will bring more effective regulation of contemporary finance or simply cement the partnership between government and the largest banks. Details the goals of the legislation, and reveals that how they are handled could dangerously distort American finance, making it more politically charged, less vibrant, and further removed from basic rule of law principles Provides an inside account of the legislative process Outlines the key components of the new law To understand what American financial life is likely to look like in five, ten, or twenty years, and how regulators will respond to the next crisis, we need to understand Dodd-Frank. Download or read book Financial Audit written by Gary T. Engel and published by DIANE Publishing. This book was released on 2010-06 with total page 154 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Economic Stabilization Act of 2008 (EESA) authorized the Secretary of the Treasury to implement the Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP) and established the Office of Financial Stability (OFS) within the Department of the Treasury to do so. EESA requires the annual preparation of financial statements for TARP, and further requires an audit of these statements. The audit of OFS¿s fiscal year 2009 financial statements for TARP determined whether, in all material respects: (1) the financial statements were fairly stated; and (2) OFS management maintained effective internal control over financial reporting. The auditor also tested OFS¿s compliance with selected provisions of laws and regulations. Charts and tables.
