Book Synopsis Implementation Research in Health by : David H. Peters
Download or read book Implementation Research in Health written by David H. Peters and published by World Health Organization. This book was released on 2013 with total page 69 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Interest in implementation research is growing, largely in recognition of the contribution it can make to maximizing the beneficial impact of health interventions. As a relatively new and, until recently, rather neglected field within the health sector, implementation research is something of an unknown quantity for many. There is therefore a need for greater clarity about what exactly implementation research is, and what it can offer. This Guide is designed to provide that clarity. Intended to support those conducting implementation research, those with responsibility for implementing programs, and those who have an interest in both, the Guide provides an introduction to basic implementation research concepts and language, briefly outlines what it involves, and describes the many opportunities that it presents. The main aim of the Guide is to boost implementation research capacity as well as demand for implementation research that is aligned with need, and that is of particular relevance to health systems in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). Research on implementation requires the engagement of diverse stakeholders and multiple disciplines in order to address the complex implementation challenges they face. For this reason, the Guide is intended for a variety of actors who contribute to and/or are impacted by implementation research. This includes the decision-makers responsible for designing policies and managing programs whose decisions shape implementation and scale-up processes, as well as the practitioners and front-line workers who ultimately implement these decisions along with researchers from different disciplines who bring expertise in systematically collecting and analyzing information to inform implementation questions. The opening chapters (1-4) make the case for why implementation research is important to decision-making. They offer a workable definition of implementation research and illustrate the relevance of research to problems that are often considered to be simply administrative and provide examples of how such problems can be framed as implementation research questions. The early chapters also deal with the conduct of implementation research, emphasizing the importance of collaboration and discussing the role of implementers in the planning and designing of studies, the collection and analysis of data, as well as in the dissemination and use of results. The second half of the Guide (5-7) detail the various methods and study designs that can be used to carry out implementation research, and, using examples, illustrates the application of quantitative, qualitative, and mixed-method designs to answer complex questions related to implementation and scale-up. It offers guidance on conceptualizing an implementation research study from the identification of the problem, development of research questions, identification of implementation outcomes and variables, as well as the selection of the study design and methods while also addressing important questions of rigor.

Download or read book Healthy Partnerships written by and published by World Bank Publications. This book was released on 2011 with total page 218 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the private health sector is an important, and often dominant, provider of health services in Sub-Saharan Africa, it is the job of governments as the stewards of the health system to engage with it. Increasing the contributions that the existing private health sector is making to public health is an important, but often neglected, element of meeting the daunting health-related challenges facing African nations. This Report presents newly collected data on how and how effectively each country in the Africa region is engaging the respective private health sectors; and how the engagement compares across the region. While the approach taken by governments varies greatly between countries, there is much room for improvement in the Africa region overall to engage more effectively and room for exchange of ideas and good practices on how to do so. Improved solutions on the policy/regulatory side should be supported by effective organization of the private sector itself and by adjustments in donor programs that take the dynamics of the private health sector better into account.

Download or read book Report of the seventeenth meeting of the Strategic and Technical Advisory Group for Neglected Tropical Diseases, Geneva, Switzerland, 11-12 October 2023 written by World Health Organization and published by World Health Organization. This book was released on 2024-01-30 with total page 50 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The seventeenth meeting of the Strategic and Technical Advisory Group for Neglected Tropical Diseases (STAG-NTD) was held at the headquarters of the World Health Organization (WHO) in Geneva, Switzerland, on 11–12 October 2023. The theme of the meeting was “Accelerating towards 2030”. The statements and statistics presented in the report may not represent the views, policies and official statistics of the Organization. Through a pre-recorded video, Dr Jérôme Salomon (WHO Assistant Director-General, Universal Health Coverage, Communicable and Noncommunicable Diseases) welcomed participants to the meeting. He said that NTDs are one of the most formidable health challenges. They afflict one billion individuals in the most vulnerable populations, miring them in poverty and desolation. This meeting was a key opportunity to steer collective efforts towards transformative solutions and strengthen collaboration among governments, organizations and individuals. The elimination of NTDs underscores the indispensable role of robust and adaptable health systems on the way to universal health coverage. Control of NTDs is about human empowerment, children’s education and people’s participation in their communities. By eliminating NTDs, we foster a legacy of health and optimism, and exemplify the importance of global unity and collective action. Together, we can all catalyse change, ensure a world where nobody needlessly suffers from these afflictions and health is genuinely a universal right.
Book Synopsis A case study on the ecosystem for local production of pharmaceuticals, vaccines, and biologicals by : World Health Organization
Download or read book A case study on the ecosystem for local production of pharmaceuticals, vaccines, and biologicals written by World Health Organization and published by World Health Organization. This book was released on 2024-05-06 with total page 84 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Local Production and Assistance (LPA) Unit in the Regulation and Prequalification Department (RPQ), Access to Medicines and Health Products Division (MHP), WHO, supports Member States (MS), particularly low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), to strengthen sustainable local production and technology transfer to improve timely, equitable access to quality, safe and effective essential medical products. The LPA Unit provides assistance and support to MS with an ecosystem-wide and holistic approach, such as fostering global coordination and partnerships, conducting ecosystem assessments for sustainable, quality local production, developing and implementing strategies/roadmaps, providing comprehensive capacity building and technical assistance, including for WHO Prequalification (PQ)/Emergency Use Listing (EUL), facilitating technology transfer (TT) and developing global resources on local production and TT. A landmark resolution WHA74.6 on strengthening local production of medicines and other health technologies to improve access was adopted in the Seventy-fourth World Health Assembly, signalling globally the important role local production plays in improving access and strengthening health security. Within this mandate, the LPA Unit, developed a series of case studies on the ecosystem for local production of pharmaceuticals, vaccines and biologicals, with a focus on country context in the low-and middle-income countries. These case studies add to the existing repository of resources on strengthening local production and technology transfer of health products for countries to leverage upon when countries embark in these areas. The countries in this series are Bangladesh, Kenya, Nigeria, Pakistan, Senegal and Tunisia. From July to September 2022, a series of interviews and consultative meetings, including a review of available literature, policies and other documents, and administration of a questionnaire, were performed. This case study is intended to report the collated information in areas such as available policies, initiatives, financing, regulatory system, patent protection system, research and development work, markets and capacity and preparedness to uptake local production of quality-assured pharmaceuticals, vaccines (including mRNA vaccines), and biologicals. The expectations and needs of these countries were also collected and included in the case study, along with proposed recommendations, for the reader to see various viewpoints towards strengthening sustainable local production and achieving universal health coverage and the Sustainable Development Goals.

Book Synopsis Principles and Practice of Public Health in Africa by : G. O. Sofoluwe
Download or read book Principles and Practice of Public Health in Africa written by G. O. Sofoluwe and published by University Press, Nigeria. This book was released on 1998 with total page 416 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first principle of public health practice is defined as the identification of the root cause or causes of all health problems, from the diseased individual to the effects on that individual of family, social, community, national, global, environment and other factors. The second principle is defined as the utilisation of the resources of the community, the nation and the world to effect a lasting and, often, a cheaper solution to health problems. This comprehensively revised and updated edition of the first volume provides a ready source for principles and practice, and more practical advice than the first edition which did not fully cover all the aspects of a comprehensive public health practice. The contributors are all practitioners, and the emphasis throughout is to bring out the principles involved in identifying the root causes of all types of health problems, and discovering practical and innovatory solutions for them in ways best suited to African countries.

With the emphasis that is now placed on evidence-based medicine, such care and rigour will inevitably impact on these areas with increasing attention turned to the quality of design. This title describes what principles can be used to structure research effectively allowing for the required degree of accuracy. Written by two best selling authors, this book includes many examples from medical literature and will be of great value to all groups conducting studies at the interface of clinical and laboratory research.
