This book was released on 2013-06-12 with total page 636 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. ============================================ In full compliance with the ambition of the European Group for Public Administration to encourage cross-cultural exchanges, this book is a genuinely original undertaking. It is a hybrid Anglophone-Francophone product. This book from EGPA 2010 Conference purpose to bridge a regrettable gap and to give international visibility to the “French case”. Thus, this book, in 18 chapters written in French by an interdisciplinary team (political scientists, sociologists, historians, sociohistorians, jurists) with more than 150 pages in English and a vast unified bibliography, offers to all students of public administration in the world a unique entry gate to the latest state of the art of administrative studies in France – this country where the State is to be spelled with a capital S.

Book Synopsis Exploring Textual Data by : Ludovic Lebart
Download or read book Exploring Textual Data written by Ludovic Lebart and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-04-17 with total page 270 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Researchers in a number of disciplines deal with large text sets requiring both text management and text analysis. Faced with a large amount of textual data collected in marketing surveys, literary investigations, historical archives and documentary data bases, these researchers require assistance with organizing, describing and comparing texts. Exploring Textual Data demonstrates how exploratory multivariate statistical methods such as correspondence analysis and cluster analysis can be used to help investigate, assimilate and evaluate textual data. The main text does not contain any strictly mathematical demonstrations, making it accessible to a large audience. This book is very user-friendly with proofs abstracted in the appendices. Full definitions of concepts, implementations of procedures and rules for reading and interpreting results are fully explored. A succession of examples is intended to allow the reader to appreciate the variety of actual and potential applications and the complementary processing methods. A glossary of terms is provided.

Book Synopsis Combinatorial Inference in Geometric Data Analysis by : Brigitte Le Roux
Download or read book Combinatorial Inference in Geometric Data Analysis written by Brigitte Le Roux and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2019-03-20 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Geometric Data Analysis designates the approach of Multivariate Statistics that conceptualizes the set of observations as a Euclidean cloud of points. Combinatorial Inference in Geometric Data Analysis gives an overview of multidimensional statistical inference methods applicable to clouds of points that make no assumption on the process of generating data or distributions, and that are not based on random modelling but on permutation procedures recasting in a combinatorial framework. It focuses particularly on the comparison of a group of observations to a reference population (combinatorial test) or to a reference value of a location parameter (geometric test), and on problems of homogeneity, that is the comparison of several groups for two basic designs. These methods involve the use of combinatorial procedures to build a reference set in which we place the data. The chosen test statistics lead to original extensions, such as the geometric interpretation of the observed level, and the construction of a compatibility region. Features: Defines precisely the object under study in the context of multidimensional procedures, that is clouds of points Presents combinatorial tests and related computations with R and Coheris SPAD software Includes four original case studies to illustrate application of the tests Includes necessary mathematical background to ensure it is self–contained This book is suitable for researchers and students of multivariate statistics, as well as applied researchers of various scientific disciplines. It could be used for a specialized course taught at either master or PhD level.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
Book Synopsis Long-Term Changes in Coastal Benthic Communities by : C.H.R. Heip
Download or read book Long-Term Changes in Coastal Benthic Communities written by C.H.R. Heip and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 344 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains the papers and abstracts of the posters given at the symposium on Long-term Changes in Coastal Benthic Communities organized by the Commission of the European Communities in Brussels, Belgium from 9 till 12 December 1985. The organization of this symposium came to conclude five years of activities in the COST 647 project on Coastal Benthic Ecology, the rationale of which is explained in the foreword by B. F. Keegan. The importance of this volume is that for the first time special attention is given to long-term data series of relevant biological variables collected in different marine benthic habitats. Many of the data presented here are the result of years of careful data collection by some of the leading scientists in the field of benthic ecology. Some of the series, such as the Macoma balthica data from the Wadden Sea or the macrofauna data from Loch Linnhe, to name just those two, are already classics in the marine biological literature. Other data were collected in the framework of a monitoring programme and are now analyzed for the first time in the different perspective of the COST 647 project. Several papers are from related fields where they represent well known case studies; they were chosen in order to see how problems have been tackled elsewhere.

Book Synopsis Handbook of Categorization in Cognitive Science by : Henri Cohen
Download or read book Handbook of Categorization in Cognitive Science written by Henri Cohen and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2005-10-25 with total page 1136 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Categorization, the basic cognitive process of arranging objects into categories, is a fundamental process in human and machine intelligence and is central to investigations and research in cognitive science. Until now, categorization has been approached from singular disciplinary perspectives with little overlap or communication between the disciplines involved (Linguistics, Psychology, Philosophy, Neuroscience, Computer Science, Cognitive Anthropology). Henri Cohen and Claire Lefebvre have gathered together a stellar collection of contributors in this unique, ambitious attempt to bring together converging disciplinary and conceptual perspectives on this topic. "Categorization is a key concept across the range of cognitive sciences, including linguistics and philosophy, yet hitherto it has been hard to find accounts that go beyond the concerns of one or two individual disciplines. The Handbook of Categorization in Cognitive Science provides just the sort of interdisciplinary approach that is necessary to synthesize knowledge from the different fields and provide the basis for future innovation." Professor Bernard Comrie, Department of Linguistics, Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology, Germany "Anyone concerned with language, semantics, or categorization will want to have this encyclopedic collection." Professor Eleanor Rosch, Dept of Psychology, University of California, Berkeley, USA
