Book excerpt: In Southern Britain, the Giants Dance stands alone on the Great Plain. For 500 years its massive trilithons have remained unruled by any chief. With invaders from distant lands attacking Britain's shores to steal its precious tin, another king must be chosen-this is the Quest of the Merlin, high priest and shaman. He brings together U'thyr Pendraec, the Terrible Head, and the beautiful Y'gerna, wife of another man, and from them a child is born...a boy who can move a sacred stone and take the ancient dagger beneath...a boy who will become High King. With totems of power and an ancestral sword from the depths of the sacred lake, Ardhu Pendraec assumes the mantle of the Stone Lord, ruler of the Great Trilithon, protector of ancient Britain.... It is a time of gold-clad kings, a time of ritual and death, a time of Axe and Dagger. The beautiful Irish Princess, Fynavir, the White Phantom, is Ardhu's chosen Bride. The Breton Prince An'kelet, bearer of the Great Spear, is his right-hand man. Yet, Ardhu's 'Golden Age' is fleeting, with betrayal and deception rife by those closest to him - Morigau, his scheming half-sister, who releases the Boar T'orc to ravage the land...and Fynavir and An'kelet, whose forbidden passion may bring down all the young King has worked to attain. ***** Stone Lord is a book set in Britain's prehistory such as you've never read before.... Mixing fiction with the latest discoveries, intertwining myth with real archaeology, this is a novel of the prehistoric origins of the man we call KING ARTHUR ...

Book excerpt: Trace: a country where magic is dying out. A country at war with itself. A country where the prophecies of the Book of the World have started to come true. Bligh: a young foreigner, drawn irresistibly to the war in Trace. A man who has rejected religion, yet appears to be possessed by one of the six Lords Elemental. Bligh thinks he's going mad, but if he is then it's a madness shared by others... Gritty and passionate, Lord of Stone is a fantasy for the new millennium by the acclaimed author of The Accord and Genetopia. 'Satisfying prose ... well realised and visualised characters ... powerful and vivid portrayal of the conditions of war.' –Eric Brown 'Keith Brooke's prose achieves a rare honesty and clarity, his characters always real people, his situations intriguing and often moving.' –Jeff VanderMeer "I am so here! Genetopia is a meditation on identity - what it means to be human and what it means to be you - and the necessity of change. It's also one heck of an adventure story. Snatch it up!' –Michael Swanwick 'Genetopia is quite remarkably fascinating.' –John Clute

Book excerpt: In a world of blood and magic, a powerful epic fantasy begins... AN EMPEROR’S DAUGHTER WHO WILL NOT BE DENIED Just before her sixteenth birthday, Princess Katerina is refused her rightful place as heir to the Empire of the Ice-Bear—solely because of her sex. Determined to regain her inheritance, she murders the foreign lord she’s been ordered to marry and embarks on a perilous voyage to the lush, tropical islands of the Laut Besar in search of the vast wealth and power she needs to claim the Empire for herself. A PRINCE FORCED TO TAKE A STAND On a small island kingdom, Prince Arjun’s idyllic life is shattered when a malignant sorcerer invades, slaughters his people and steals the sacred sword of Jun’s ancestors. With his royal father dead and his palace in ruins, Jun reluctantly tracks the sorcerer and the magical blade far across the pirate-infested waters of the Laut Besar. A SORCERER SEEKING TO DESTROY THE WORLD Long ago the powerful relics known as the Seven Keys were used to safely lock away the terrifying evils of the Seven Hells. With Jun’s ancient sword in his grasp, the sorcerer Mangku has claimed the first Key, and begun his mission to unleash catastrophe upon the land. As the destinies of these three entwine in the lawless islands of the Laut Besar, the fate of humanity hangs in the balance. For if the sorcerer cannot be stopped, the world itself will be unmade…

Book excerpt: Appropriately, this absolutely fascinating book carries the title of the most perfect prayer we know - the one the Lord Jesus Christ Himself taught us to pray, to impart to us the true principle of spiritual prayer. I Can Learn to Pray - The Lord's Prayer - The Prayer of the Kingdom, is for anyone who wants to know God better as "Father." This book is unique for its simplicity and direct appeal to the deepest religious yearnings of mankind. It is, within itself, the answer to the heartfelt prayer of anyone who has expressed the dominant concern to "seek" but have not found the One in tune with the diverse challenges and joys of their life. Each chapter has instructional writings and thought-provoking meditations along with inspirational quotations from the Bible, and the writing is expressed in a Father-child interactive conversation. It is the book's intent that countless numbers of people will be guided to lives made happier, richer, and nobler by the wisdom gathered in its pages. Winsome Walters had an unlikely beginning for the Christian life. Her father, hard-working and devout, sternly reminded her, "I want my children to serve God." But although she was devoted to the ideals of her father's moral teachings, Ms. Walters was not prepared to commit to his exacting spiritual ambitions, and so she decided, I'll get away from God.and find my freedom. But when God wants to find you, He knows where you are - even if you're miles away spiritually playing hide and seek. As a result of a remarkable experience in her life, Ms. Walters gave her heart to the Lord. With exceptional tenacity she continues her love for Christ at an unstoppable pace. Her commitment to loving God, combined with the empathy, care, and love she has for those whom Christ died, has inspired her to write this book.

This book was released on 2010-01-01 with total page 241 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the pre-Hispanic Mesoamerican world, histories and collections of ritual knowledge were often presented in the form of painted and folded books now known as codices, and the knowledge itself was encoded into pictographs. Eight codices have survived from the Mixtec peoples of ancient Oaxaca, Mexico; a part of one of them, the Codex Zouche-Nuttall, is the subject of this book. As a group, the Mixtec codices contain the longest detailed histories and royal genealogies known for any indigenous people in the western hemisphere. The Codex Zouche-Nuttall offers a unique window into how the Mixtecs themselves viewed their social and political cosmos without the bias of western European interpretation. At the same time, however, the complex calendrical information recorded in the Zouche-Nuttall has made it resistant to historical, chronological analysis, thereby rendering its narrative obscure. In this pathfinding work, Robert Lloyd Williams presents a methodology for reading the Codex Zouche-Nuttall that unlocks its essentially linear historical chronology. Recognizing that the codex is a combination of history in the European sense and the timelessness of myth in the Native American sense, he brings to vivid life the history of Lord Eight Wind of Suchixtlan (AD 935–1027), a ruler with the attributes of both man and deity, as well as other heroic Oaxacan figures. Williams also provides context for the history of Lord Eight Wind through essays dealing with Mixtec ceremonial rites and social structure, drawn from information in five surviving Mixtec codices.
