Download or read book Stochastic Orders in Reliability and Risk written by Haijun Li and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-22 with total page 459 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Stochastic Orders in Reliability and Risk Management is composed of 19 contributions on the theory of stochastic orders, stochastic comparison of order statistics, stochastic orders in reliability and risk analysis, and applications. These review/exploratory chapters present recent and current research on stochastic orders reported at the International Workshop on Stochastic Orders in Reliability and Risk Management, or SORR2011, which took place in the City Hotel, Xiamen, China, from June 27 to June 29, 2011. The conference’s talks and invited contributions also represent the celebration of Professor Moshe Shaked, who has made comprehensive, fundamental contributions to the theory of stochastic orders and its applications in reliability, queueing modeling, operations research, economics and risk analysis. This volume is in honor of Professor Moshe Shaked. The work presented in this volume represents active research on stochastic orders and multivariate dependence, and exemplifies close collaborations between scholars working in different fields. The Xiamen Workshop and this volume seek to revive the community workshop tradition on stochastic orders and dependence and strengthen research collaboration, while honoring the work of a distinguished scholar.
Book Synopsis Order Statistics by : Herbert A. David
Download or read book Order Statistics written by Herbert A. David and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2004-03-22 with total page 482 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume provides an up-to-date coverage of the theory and applications of ordered random variables and their functions. Furthermore, it develops the distribution theory of OS systematically. Applications include procedures for the treatment of outliers and other data analysis techniques. Even when chapter and section headings are the same as in OSII, there are appreciable changes, mostly additions, with some obvious deletions. Parts of old Ch. 7, for example, are prime candidates for omission. Appendices are designed to help collate tables, computer algorithms, and software, as well as to compile related monographs on the subject matter. Extensive exercise sets will continue, many of them replaced by newer ones.
Book Synopsis Stochastic Comparisons with Applications by : Subhash C. Kochar
Download or read book Stochastic Comparisons with Applications written by Subhash C. Kochar and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-10-22 with total page 280 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book emphasizes the use of stochastic orders as motivational tools for developing new statistical procedures. Stochastic orders have found useful applications in many disciplines, including reliability theory, survival analysis, risk theory, finance, nonparametric methods, economics and actuarial science. Written by a statistician, this volume clarifies the connection between stochastic orders and nonparametric methods. The importance of order statistics and spacings is well recognized. Classically, they mainly focus on the case when the observations are independent and identically distributed, however, several new developments have extended the comparison of order statistics to the case of non-identically distributed or non-independent observations. In addition to giving a detailed discussion of various topics in the general area of stochastic orders, a substantial part of the book is devoted to recent research on stochastic comparisons of order statistics and spacings, including a long chapter on dependence among them. The book will be useful for graduate students and researchers in statistics, economics, actuarial science and other related disciplines. In particular, with close to 300 references, it will be a valuable resource for reliability theorists, applied probabilists and statisticians. Readers are expected to have taken a first-year graduate level course in mathematical statistics or in applied probability.

Download or read book Direction Dependence in Statistical Modeling written by Wolfgang Wiedermann and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2020-11-24 with total page 432 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Covers the latest developments in direction dependence research Direction Dependence in Statistical Modeling: Methods of Analysis incorporates the latest research for the statistical analysis of hypotheses that are compatible with the causal direction of dependence of variable relations. Having particular application in the fields of neuroscience, clinical psychology, developmental psychology, educational psychology, and epidemiology, direction dependence methods have attracted growing attention due to their potential to help decide which of two competing statistical models is more likely to reflect the correct causal flow. The book covers several topics in-depth, including: A demonstration of the importance of methods for the analysis of direction dependence hypotheses A presentation of the development of methods for direction dependence analysis together with recent novel, unpublished software implementations A review of methods of direction dependence following the copula-based tradition of Sungur and Kim A presentation of extensions of direction dependence methods to the domain of categorical data An overview of algorithms for causal structure learning The book's fourteen chapters include a discussion of the use of custom dialogs and macros in SPSS to make direction dependence analysis accessible to empirical researchers.

Book Synopsis Approximate Distributions of Order Statistics by : Rolf-Dieter Reiss
Download or read book Approximate Distributions of Order Statistics written by Rolf-Dieter Reiss and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 363 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is designed as a unified and mathematically rigorous treatment of some recent developments of the asymptotic distribution theory of order statistics (including the extreme order statistics) that are relevant for statistical theory and its applications. Particular emphasis is placed on results concern ing the accuracy oflimit theorems, on higher order approximations, and other approximations in quite a general sense. Contrary to the classical limit theorems that primarily concern the weak convergence of distribution functions, our main results will be formulated in terms of the variational and the Hellinger distance. These results will form the proper springboard for the investigation of parametric approximations of nonparametric models of joint distributions of order statistics. The approxi mating models include normal as well as extreme value models. Several applications will show the usefulness of this approach. Other recent developments in statistics like nonparametric curve estima tion and the bootstrap method will be studied as far as order statistics are concerned. 1n connection with this, graphical methods will, to some extent, be explored.
