Book excerpt: Thirty years ago, the only planets we knew were the ones orbiting our own sun; we now know of thousands of other worlds orbiting distant stars. In this book, astronomer Niall Deacon journeys to twenty of these globes: from giant, blisteringly hot planets orbiting close to their parent stars to planets that float through the cold wilderness of space alone, and from dead stars shredding asteroids to worlds made of diamond—and even planets that may be similar to the Earth. Deacon also takes in the latest exoplanet discoveries and explains how astronomers have come to learn so much about these strange and distant worlds. Twenty Worlds tells a sweeping story, of real planets around other stars, and it will fascinate a universe of fans of popular science and astronomy.

Book excerpt: There are two kinds of people in this world: the colonists that immigrated to Earth first and those that followed them. Something happened to those first immigrants, no one knows what, but they were changed. The biological changes were subtle except their lifespan was dramatically shortened to something like seventy or eighty years and they procreated at a ridiculously high rate. The psychological changes were more dramatic. They warred with each other. They fought each other for dominance. They had this strange compulsion to hoard things. The most notable change, though, was that they had forgotten nearly all of the philosophical and scientific knowledge accumulated over millennia. To say their technology was crude would be an understatement. They lived like animals. It made things difficult for those that came later. At first they made no effort to hide the differences. They used technology openly. But the colonists reacted strangely. They either thought those later immigrants were gods and started worshipping them or they thought they were demons and tried to kill them. Eventually, the later immigrants 'went underground' and formed a human subculture that has stood for tens of thousands of years. We, those first immigrants, know them simply as 'the elite'. The elite have spent millennia reeducating us and reintroducing us to technology. Some of the elite think they have gone as far as they should. To reveal the final secrets would be more than we could handle. Others believe that if the final secrets are not revealed, the earth's environment will be destroyed. The battle lines are drawn. Unfortunately, those battle lines cut straight through the lives of Clayton Jeffries and Kate Young - unknowing innocents that simply want to know what happened to his daughters and her brother. The answer will change them...and the world forever.

Faced with an unavoidable war with the Slavers, Danny and her allies wield their poor resources to prepare their people for the ravages the Slavers will deliver… Federal Force is the seventh book in the Iron Hammer space opera science fiction series by award-winning SF author Cameron Cooper. The Iron Hammer series is a spin off from the acclaimed Imperial Hammer series, and features many of the characters and situations from that series. The Iron Hammer series: 1.0: Galactic Thunder 2.0: Stellar Storm 3.0: Planetary Parlay 4.0: Waxing War 5.0: Ruled Out 6.0: Stranger Stars 7.0: Federal Force 8.0: Redline Rebels Space Opera Science Fiction Novel __ Praise for Federal Force: Another fast paced addition to the series, full of political intrigue, space battles and strategic ploys to keep you flipping the page. This chapter is full of surprising allies, unexpected enemies and hope I was captivated by Danny and crew, all over again, with plenty of plot twists and ingenious strategies for the war against the Terran's. If you love character driven story, fantastic world building, and a page turning plot, then I highly recommend this author. Definitely one of my top five science fiction authors to read. War is here and Danny plays the long game here. This continues to be an intricate, detailed and fascinating struggle. Totally engrossing. A fabulous series!! I don’t know how Cam Cooper keeps writing better and better books, but Federal Force is spectacular! I couldn’t put it down. Oh my goodness, this was SO GOOD! This addition to the Iron Hammer series is chocked full of excitement. __ Cameron Cooper is the author of the Imperial Hammer series, an Amazon best-selling space opera series, among others. A severed arm found on the roof of the highest building in Georgina’s Town sends Ptolemy Lane on the hunt for the rest of the body. It neatly distracts him from the fact that Diya Sandor, former ship captain and new town resident, has left him. But when both issues intersect, the fallout can’t be ignored. The Maker of Widowmakers’ Arm is the third Ptolemy Lane space opera science fiction story by award-winning SF author Cameron Cooper. The Ptolemy Lane Tales: 1.0: The Body in the Zero Gee Brothel 2.0: The Captain Who Broke the Rules 3.0: The Maker of Widowmakers’ Arm 4.0: The Ancient Girl in the Autopod Space Opera Science Fiction Novelette __ Praise for The Maker of Widowmakers’ Arm: Ptolemy discovers he cared for someone who has left him; it saddened me but made him feel a little more human and less cold to me. We learn more about this domed city and its citizens in this great world-building Space Opera series. I've grown to like and empathise with Ptolemy Jovan Lane even more with each novel in the series as we get to know him. How well Cameron Cooper has packed so many components into such a small slice of Jovan's life. Lane is utterly complex and leaves the reader wanting more. What a gruesome find. Amazing how something so small and gruesome can lead to so much information. Ptolemy gets right on track quickly 99 is the character that I hope to see more of, he could turn out to be my favorite supporting character. A nice addition to this series. I love the detail in the story that sets the stage for interactions and action. For example, the visit to the food facility. This is such a clever story! Its great lead character is intriguing and enigmatic, and his supporting cast just add to it. The plot is clever and kept me guessing right through to the end. I thoroughly enjoyed it! __ Cameron Cooper is the author of the Imperial Hammer series, an Amazon best-selling space opera series, among others. Book excerpt: A new hope for the Carinad worlds emerges… Danny Andela and her Carinad allies make a desperate bid to recruit a new ally to their cause, one who could change their fortunes in the war with the Slavers. Stranger Stars is the sixth book in the Iron Hammer space opera science fiction series by award-winning SF author Cameron Cooper. The Iron Hammer series is a spin off from the acclaimed Imperial Hammer series, and features many of the characters and situations from that series. The Iron Hammer series: 1.0: Galactic Thunder 2.0: Stellar Storm 3.0: Planetary Parlay 4.0: Waxing War 5.0: Ruled Out 6.0: Stranger Stars 7.0: Federal Force 8.0: Redline Rebels Space Opera Science Fiction Novel __ Praise for Stranger Stars: I was completely hooked me from the start, plunging me back into the action where 'Ruled Out' left off. It's satisfying and reassuring to be back with these characters. This piece of the adventure definitely gets darker. This series reminds me of why I originally fell in love with this genre. Cameron Cooper’s stories truly rival the greats, like Frank Herbert. The inventive nature of this series is beyond any I have read. Simply Stunning! The Carinds can't win, but refuse to lose. The huge reveal at the end of book 5 plays a large role in this book in a rather unexpected way. Fantastic series! Highly recommended! Two more books coming. I cannot wait to see what Danny and her team do next. I loved this book! Great characters, great storyline. Old and new characters.
