Download or read book Steel Structures: Behavior and LRFD written by Ramulu Vinnakota and published by McGraw-Hill Education. This book was released on 2005-01-26 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This textbook integrates both design considerations of steel structures as well as the behavior on which the design specifications are based. Steel Structures: Behavior and LRFD is unique in that it has five introductory chapters: an Introduction to motivate student interest by showing and discussing actual steel projects; Chapter 2 presents a discussion of steels as a structural material; Chapter 3 provides a broad introduction to structures; Chapter 4 discusses loads acting on structures per ASCE Standards 7; and Chapter 5 explains calculations for simple examples. The other unique feature is thorough coverage of connections. Connections are the most important and least understood components of steel structures. Chapters 6, 12, and 13 are devoted to this key topic. Throughout the text, a web icon references readers to the book’s website (http://www.mhhe.com/ vinnakota), which contains extensive additional coverage of advanced topics. Book Synopsis LRFD Steel Design Using Advanced Analysis by : W.F. Chen
Download or read book LRFD Steel Design Using Advanced Analysis written by W.F. Chen and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1997-01-30 with total page 460 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: LRFD Steel Design Using Advanced Analysis uses practical advanced analysis to produce almost identical member sizes to those of the Load and Resistance Factor Design (LRFD) method. The main advantage of the advanced analysis method is that tedious and sometimes confusing separate member capacity checks encompassed by the AISC-LRFD specification equations are not necessary. Advanced analysis can sufficiently capture the limit state strength and stability of a structural system and its individual member directly. While the use of elastic analysis is still the norm in engineering practice, a new generation of codes is expected to adopt the advanced analysis methodology in the near future, leading to significant savings in design effort. In recent years, the continued rapid development in computer hardware and software, coupled with an increased understanding of structural behavior, has made it feasible to adopt the advanced analysis techniques for design office use. Drs. Chen and Kim, both experienced and respected engineers, contribute their expertise to this text, which is intended for both the graduate student and the practicing engineer. Previous knowledge of the subject is not necessary, but familiarity with methods of elastic analysis and conventional LRFD design is expected. The advanced analysis in the book is presented in a practical and simple manner, with attention directed to both analysis and design, emphasizing the direct use of the methods in engineering practice. This is a great introduction to an exciting new trend in structural engineering!

Download or read book MP written by Ramulu S. Vinnakota and published by McGraw-Hill Science, Engineering & Mathematics. This book was released on 2005-01 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ramulu Vinnakota's, Behavior and LRFD of Steel Structures stresses both the design of steel structures (as do the competing texts) and the behavior of steel under specific conditions. The most recent editions of the American Institute of Steel Construction's Load and Resistance Factor Design Specifications (3e, 1999) and the LRFD Manual (3e, 2001) are used and extensively referenced in the Vinnakota text, and these documents are based on the behavior of steel. Therefore covering the interaction of design and behavior in one textbook is a unique approach. Designers must understand structural behavior as an integral part of the design process, and chapters 1 to 5 thoroughly cover this material. As Ramulu Vinnakota notes, The heart and soul of design are the ability to conceive a structure that will behave as desired, and intuition regarding different framing options. The balance of the chapters covers the elements that makeup a steel building structure: members and connections. In each chapter, discussion of theory and behavior of the member under various combinations of loads it must resist is followed by a discussion of design applications. Throughout the text, a web icon references readers to the book's website (http: //www.mhhe.com/ vinnakota), which contains extensive additional coverage of advanced topics.

Book Synopsis Design of Steel Structures by : Elias G. Abu-Saba
Download or read book Design of Steel Structures written by Elias G. Abu-Saba and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 404 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is intended for classroom teaching in architectural and civil engineering at the graduate and undergraduate levels. Although it has been developed from lecture notes given in structural steel design, it can be useful to practicing engineers. Many of the examples presented in this book are drawn from the field of design of structures. Design of Steel Structures can be used for one or two semesters of three hours each on the undergraduate level. For a two-semester curriculum, Chapters 1 through 8 can be used during the first semester. Heavy emphasis should be placed on Chapters 1 through 5, giving the student a brief exposure to the consideration of wind and earthquakes in the design of buildings. With the new federal requirements vis a vis wind and earthquake hazards, it is beneficial to the student to have some under standing of the underlying concepts in this field. In addition to the class lectures, the instructor should require the student to submit a term project that includes the complete structural design of a multi-story building using standard design procedures as specified by AISC Specifications. Thus, the use of the AISC Steel Construction Manual is a must in teaching this course. In the second semester, Chapters 9 through 13 should be covered. At the undergraduate level, Chapters 11 through 13 should be used on a limited basis, leaving the student more time to concentrate on composite construction and built-up girders.
