This text reviews from an international perspective what has been learned about male bisexuality in countries as diverse as Peru and Britain. Its authors examine the forms that bisexuality takes in different cultures, what it means to the men concerned, and whether or not such behaviour poses special risks. The implications of such enquiry for HIV prevention efforts are also examined.

Book Synopsis Governing Australia by : Mitchell Dean
Download or read book Governing Australia written by Mitchell Dean and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1998-06-22 with total page 290 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Inspired by Foucault's discussion of governmentality, this book makes a major contribution to our understanding of government. The book is interdisciplinary in approach, and combines theoretical discussion with empirical focus. It includes a substantial introduction by the editors, and contains work critiquing the central notion of governmentality. A range of topics are discussed, including regulation of the unemployed and people with HIV/AIDS, sexual harassment in the military, the corporatisation of education, new contractualism and governing personality. While their topics are varied, the contributors explore a range of shared concerns, including notions of problematisation, expert knowledge, rationality, freedom and autonomy, giving the volume focus and rigour. This book will be essential reading in political science, sociology, law, philosophy, education and economics.

Book excerpt: This guide was developed out of a 5-year project aimed at preventing the transmission of the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) by promoting HIV prevention and AIDS (acquired immunodeficiency syndrome) education in school health programs. This document includes recommendations of a January, 1989 forum which addressed HIV prevention education for special education students, results of a review of existing curricula, and information on a training model which calls for teams of health educators and special educators to collaborate on the planning and delivery of instruction. The introduction describes the sponsoring organizations. A summary of the forum conclusions addresses the roles of professionals, parents, and children and youth with special needs as well as specific deficiencies discovered in instruction and curriculum; recommendations are provided under such topics as policy, training, inservice, statewide activities, curriculum, and instruction. Basic information about HIV and AIDS is presented next and includes information on risk factors for children and the role of education in helping stop the spread of AIDS. Policies, resolutions, and principles of several organizations for AIDS prevention education are presented next. Curriculum information is provided in the final section and includes a checklist for a good AIDS curriculum, a listing of curricula receiving favorable reviews, a sample AIDS curriculum, and a sample lesson plan. A list of resources including 14 materials, a database, three hotlines, and sources of training conclude the guide. (DB)
Book Synopsis A Sourcebook of HIV/AIDS Prevention Programs by : Alexandria Valerio
Download or read book A Sourcebook of HIV/AIDS Prevention Programs written by Alexandria Valerio and published by World Bank Publications. This book was released on 2008 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Sourcebook of HIV/AIDS Prevention Programs, Volume 2: Education Sector-Wide Approaches is part of a global effort to accelerate the sector's response to HIV/AIDS, particularly in Africa, and reflects the increasing recognition of the role that education has to play in the national response to HIV. A good education is now recognized as making a crucial contribution to reducing stigma and discrimination and to helping young people avoid infection. School-age children have the lowest prevalence of infection, and even in the worst-affected countries, the vast majority of schoolchildren remain uninfected. For these children there is a window of hope, a chance of a life free from HIV if they can acquire the knowledge, skills and values to help protect themselves as they grow up. Providing young people with the "social vaccine" of education offers them a real chance of a productive life. Sector-wide school-based programs have the potential to interact with large numbers of children and youth and offer a ready-made infrastructure for offering cost-effective HIV/AIDS education at population scale. This new volume was produced in response to requests from educators for programmatic examples of education sector-wide approaches. With lessons that are replicable and scalable, this new analysis of 10 HIV/AIDS prevention programs - from 6 Sub-Saharan African countries as well as the Dominican Republic and Israel - fills an important gap in programming expertise in the education sector.
