Download or read book Love written by Anthony Walsh and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-07-05 with total page 319 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Love is a little word with a universe of meanings and has engaged people's interest throughout human history. The need to give and receive love lies deep within human nature. Philosophers, poets, theologians, sociologists, and scientists have all attempted to explain its exact origin, but is it an evolutionary adaptation, or a social construct?Walsh discusses that the nature of and need for love has biological origins. He draws upon Darwin's sexual selection theory to define the perceptions of love by infants through the process of experience-dependent brain wiring. He observes that mother love makes a child capable of loving and that father love makes a child feel worthy of love. He appraises the origin and purpose of romantic love in his discussions on sexual reproduction by looking at chemical and neurological responses to love and the influence of love on one's physical and mental health. With frequent quotes from literary masters like Shakespeare to orient one's scientific and humanistic understanding of love, Walsh goes on to explore various styles of romantic love, including monogamy, promiscuity, bartering love, and betrayed love; the effects of a skewed sex ratio on dating and mating practices; and the age-old quest for a perfect society populated by perfect people obeying the biblical command to "love one another."

Matt’s hardworking mom keeps the kitchen crammed with food, but Matt can resist the siren call of casseroles and cookies because he has discovered something: the less he eats the more he seems to have . . . powers. The ability to see things he shouldn’t be able to see. The knack of tuning in to thoughts right out of people’s heads. Maybe even the authority to bend time and space. So what is lunch, really, compared to the secrets of the universe? Matt decides to infiltrate Tariq’s life, then use his powers to uncover what happened to Maya. All he needs to do is keep the hunger and longing at bay. No problem. But Matt doesn’t realize there are many kinds of hunger…and he isn’t in control of all of them. Download or read book Starving written by Christen Bensten and published by . This book was released on 2021-04-03 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Washington Post called her "A DIY furniture maven" when she built her small, women-owned business. However, the world was much bleaker as a young girl growing up emotionally and physically starving. Like Tara Westover in her memoir, Educated, Christen was also caught in the confines of her upbringing. She grew up under the rule of an emotionally absent and critical mother, attended a cult-like evangelical church that practiced exorcisms and went to a school that publicly punished kids with paddling, duct-taping their mouths closed and tying children to their desks with rope. Starving is a memoir by Blue Egg Brown Nest founder, Christen Bensten. You may know some of Christen's story through her popular blog, Blue Egg Brown Nest, but you don't know all of it. Christen shares her painful story of growing up in a constant state of fear, managing her anxiety and depression on her own. As a fearful and quiet child, Christen did not have the tools to fight back against the people that tried to keep her small and she spent many years locked in her bedroom trying to manage her debilitating depression on her own. Her anxiety turned into daily purging at age ten and kept her from expanding into the world. It wasn't until the birth of her first child that she was able mount the courage she needed to set up healthy boundaries, heal from the past and move into her bright future. She has been published in The Washington Post , Cottage Living Magazine , Arlington Magazine, Romantic Homes Magazine , freshstyle Magazine and several other publications including the book Southern Style. She has shared her YouTube Tutorials to millions of people on her Blue Egg Brown Nest Channel. Christen is a mom of three, a writer, painter, avid reader and Jesus-lover. She also fosters loads of homeless kitties. Her audience is anyone seeking to move away from the prison of the past and toward mental and physical well-being. Book excerpt: Do fathers love their children more than the mothers do? Why or why not? Yusuph is Tanzania Congolese boy who born and grow in Tanzania with unaware of his mother's (Tecla) and father's (Joseph) love for him because of some complicated situation. As Yusuph grew up, he longed to live with his family but at the end he received bad news of Joseph's death. "I literally can't remember what was my dad looks like, or his voice, or anything about him but there are still some missing pieces of him deep down inside me that I brought into my countless dreams of him." Father will say they love their children just as much as their Mothers, but it looks different on the outside. He buried him in his mind, and transform almost every aspect of his live, he decided to pursue his new dream of not letting his children go through the life he went through. Yusuph and Samir were selected by the college to study abroad. Father tend to love their children in the way they perceive is the best but mother love their children in the way they can best perceive it. So, from children's perspective, the father's love may seem to be less than the mothers. Samir explore Yusuph's life situation to accomplish writing his own novel. "... He's committed to reading as many novels as he can, hoping that one day he'll find something to write about in his novel, but still, I wish I could tell my life story so he could write something..." THE BEGINNING OF NOVEL WITHIN A NOVEL. Later on Yusuph find out that, before Joseph death, he left special love message for him about his steps sister, Clementine who live in Drc Congo. It is very difficult for Yusuph to go meet his step sister because he want to spend most of his time with his girlfriend (Naomy) for his future family. As time goes by pain of loosing Joseph never leaves Yusuph. "The foot prints our loved ones leave on our souls are permanent. Never to be filled with another. Never forgotten. They live on in our memories and in our hearts." The importance of fatherhood extend beyond a provider. Keep that in mind. Yusuph couldn't deal with the future while he didn't clean all of his past memory. "Now we're all together and we can't shake hands... We can't kiss... Hugging each other is a test for us... Having sex is also a problem.... I don't think if we will get married... Bearing children is a dream..." Mother's love is mild while father's love is shape. They are different but neither is dispensable. Instead to go study abroad, he go to meet Clementine because she is the one who will restore all the love he had for Joseph without care if there a civil war. Yusuph's heart-beat, thump-thump -- His finger is taking up trigger-slack. He holds off as Justine (Rebel) continues to drag Clementine backward into the woods... So yeah, I think fathers love their children, but they way they express it can sometimes be misunderstood or undervalued.

Book Synopsis The Southern Tradition at Bay by : Richard M. Weaver
Download or read book The Southern Tradition at Bay written by Richard M. Weaver and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2021-04-27 with total page 418 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While Richard M. Weaver is best known for the classic Ideas Have Consequences, the foundation of his career was this study of his native South. Calling the Southern tradition "the last non-materialist civilization in the Western world," he traced its roots to feudalism, chivalry, religiosity, and aristocratic conventions. The Old South, he concluded, "may indeed be a hall hung with splendid tapestries in which no one would care to live; but from them we can learn something of how to live." Weaver’s exploration of the ideals and ideas of the Southern tradition as expressed in the military histories, autobiographies, diaries, and novels of the era following the Civil War—especially those written by the men and women on the losing side—is offered to a new generation of readers for whom that tradition has fallen into disrepute and who can scarcely imagine a life rooted in nature, the soil, and a powerful sense of honor. The Southern Tradition at Bay is, as Jeffrey Hart noted, the work of a man who admired what "is admirable indeed, and that is the foundation of wisdom and indeed sanity."

THREE VERY DIFFERENT OUTCOMES... Following the death of her mother, Leonie Lynch is brought up in London's Eastgate Street by foster parents, her living expenses provided for by her young mother's friend, Lady Angela Bentick. When she turns eighteen, her godmother, the redoubtable Mrs Dodd, turns to Lady Angela to ask that she takes her on as a nurse at her nursing home and it is upon starting work that Leonie meets our two other heroines - Mercy Cordel and Dorinda Montgomery. Mercy grew up at the family home, Cordel Court in Somerset, and shortly after her seventeenth birthday, was brought up to London by her stepmother for the London Season. Dorinda Montgomery, on the other hand, has hardly ridden up and down Rotten Row more than a half a dozen times before she has captured the heart of every masher around town. Within days she is a famous member of the demi-monde, with her own house and carriage in St John's Wood. Meanwhile, Mercy Cordel is hard put to find a dancing partner. That she eventually finds a husband in the hard-bitten, hard-riding John Brancaster is a source of happy amazement to her. Society seems to reward Dorinda Montgomery more than it does the virtuous girl pushed into marriage with a suitably older husband. Certainly this is how it seems to Leonie Lynch, the only one of the three who has quite made up her mind to dedicate herself to something other than marriage...
