Book excerpt: Excerpt from Standardization of the Saybolt Universal Viscosimeter The directions finally adopted are to pour in an excess of liquid so as to cover the gage points, and then adjust the height of the liquid to the level of the gage points by removing the excess with a pipette. The time of discharge for water at 20° C, (68° F), usually called the water rate, must lie between 50 and 52 seconds. Meissner 6 says that it is seconds for an instrument of normal dimensions. Book excerpt: In 1901 the National Bureau of Standards (NBS) was founded to provide standard weights and measures and to be the national physical laboratory for the United States of America. The NBS conducted a lot of research in the fields of science and technology which were reported as "Technological Papers." In 1988 the NBS became what we know now; the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). This is one of those documents written by employees of the NBS.

Book Synopsis Viscosity of Liquids by : Dabir S. Viswanath
Download or read book Viscosity of Liquids written by Dabir S. Viswanath and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2007-03-31 with total page 669 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is unique in that it brings together published viscosity data, experimental methods, theoretical, correlation and predictive procedures in a single volume. The readers will get a better understanding of why various methods are used for measuring viscosity of different types of liquids and why an experimental method is dependent on fluid characteristics, such as Newtonian or non-Newtonian fluids.

Book Synopsis Table I. Conversion of Kinematic Viscosity to Saybolt Universal Viscosity by :
Download or read book Table I. Conversion of Kinematic Viscosity to Saybolt Universal Viscosity written by and published by . This book was released on 1957 with total page 18 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This table gives values for converting kinematic viscosity in centistokes to Saybolt Universal viscosity in seconds at 100 F and at 210 F. Conversion values are given for a range of kinematic viscosity from 1.77 to 500 cs. The relationship between Saybolt and kinematic viscosities is linear above 20.0 cs. The viscosity conversion values in this table have been calculated in accordance with the Standard Method for Conversion of Kinematic Viscosity to Saybolt Universal Viscosity (ASTM Designation: D 446). These kinematic viscosity values are based upon the standard value for distilled water of 1.0038 cs at 68 F and are given in increments smaller than are officially measured by, or reported for the Saybolt Universal Viscometer. The Saybolt Viscosity values obtained from this Table, following the reporting procedure outlined in the Standard Method of Test for Saybolt Viscosity (ASTM Designation: D 88, should be reported to the nearest 0.1 sec for viscosity values below 200 sec and to the nearest whole second for values 200 sec or above. Viscosity values not listed but which are within the range given in Table I may be obtained by linear interpolation.
Book Synopsis Table V. Factors for Converting Kinematic Viscosity to Saybolt Universal Viscosity at Temperatures from -100 to +500 F. by :
Download or read book Table V. Factors for Converting Kinematic Viscosity to Saybolt Universal Viscosity at Temperatures from -100 to +500 F. written by and published by . This book was released on 1957 with total page 4 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The factors or multipliers given in Table V are based upon the general equation given in ASTM Standard D 446, for converting kinematic viscosity to Saybolt Universal viscosity at temperatures other than 100 F and 210 F. The general equation of ASTM Standard D 446 and the factors derived therefrom are established from viscosity data in the temperature range of 70 to 300 F. The factors for use at temperatures outside this range are given for convenience in Table V and are calculated from the same equation. Note 1.--The viscosity-temperature charts specified in ASTM Standard D 341 are also based upon the general equation given in Method D 446 and are established for the temperature range of -30 to +450 F.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Conversion Tables for Various Viscosimeters: Using the Saybolt Universal Viscosimeter as the Standard; A Thesis The cry of the present age of the engineer is for standardization Perhaps the one field of activities which has been neglected is the testing of lubricants. In the past, various types of viscoaiineters have been used for testing the viscosity of oils, which has created a great deal of confusion. At present time the tendancy of the larger oil manufactors is to use a standard type of viscoainieter. It is therefore the aim of the writers to study the various viscosircetars at their coEmand and to construct tables and curves whereby the viscosity of any meter can be readily transfered into the corresponding value on the Saybolt Universal Viscosimeter. We wish to express our thanks to Prof. James Clinton Peebles for his cooperation and suggestions. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
