Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Stone Cold Mental Volume I In this series I'll share with you my personal collection of mentalism I've built up over the past decade and a half or so. The 13 items to follow are just a small sample of what's to come. All of this material has never been published anywhere prior to this series. In this first volume, you'll find ten effects in a few different categories, namely ESP, tarot, "time", bizarre, and "luck". Plus 3 bonus ideas including an effect specifically for magicians as well as a utility idea, and a fun presentational idea for your stand up/stage show. Also included you'll find 8 QR Codes with links to video footage, a secret website, and a whole bunch of other stuff! Step inside and join me on the journey to de-boring-ify your mentalism. Why be boring when you can be Stone Cold Mental! Inevitability A prediction is openly placed on the table. The spectator truly shuffles a packet of ESP cards then (without the mentalist ever touching the packet) deals them out on to the table stopping whenever they want. The prediction, of course, is correct. The spectator's choice is truly a free choice. Extra Sensory Pendulum The mentalist finds the spectator's thought of ESP card with a pendulum. Then the spectator finds the mentalist's thought of ESP card using a pendulum. The spectator truly has a free thought of ESP card. There is no force. Torched Tarot What follows is a very powerful moment of wonder. This will be a true connecting moment with your "spectator." The fact is, that this is more meant for a private one-on-one meeting with the spectator as a "sitter" and you as a "reader." This truly is very scary-powerful. Please, please, use it wisely and responsibly. Nightmarot The haruspex predicts a thought of tarot card in just about the creepiest way possible. Don't worry, no entrails or sacrificed animals were involved. The Persistence of Time One spectator reveals the merely thought of hour of another spectator. Time Enough at Last This effect is the same as the preceding effect. However, rather than drawings of clocks, actual watches are used, and the presentation is quite a bit different and has an overall different kind of vibe. Hotel Hell The key to the hotel room of a serial killer is shown to have a spiritual connection to the murderer causing a fireball to appear from nowhere, and other super creepy things. The Purge A voodoo doll wrapped in a cloth is seen to move. Then a pin appears in the voodoo doll at the exact place chosen by the spectator. Bone Count A spectator secretly chooses a number on a die. Another spectator chooses 1 of 6 facedown cards (i.e., one for each number on a die). The card chosen matches the number on the die. As a kicker, the other cards are shown to be completely blank. No equivoque. LOST Lottery The mental mind manipulator is able to hear the thoughts of the piqued participants as they think of some lottery numbers.

Book excerpt: A journalist recounts his life-changing journey through the secret world of underground magic in this “funny, illuminating, and personal” memoir (Brooklyn Rail) When struggling journalist Ian Frisch came across magician Chris Ramsey on Instagram, he knew he had the makings of a good story. But what began as a simple profile piece led Ian to the52—a secret society of magicians determined to revolutionize their ancient artform under the mantra Magic Is Dead. As Ian gains entry to the52, he forms close bonds with its founding members—Laura London, Daniel Madison, and Chris Ramsay. He attends private gatherings of the most extraordinary magicians working today, follows them to magic conventions in Las Vegas and England, and discovers some of the best tricks of the trade. He also goes behind the scenes of a Netflix magic show and encounters David Blaine, Penn Jillette, and Dynamo, the U.K.’s most famous magician. As Ian tells the story of the52, and his role as its most unlikely member, he reveals his own connection with trickery and deceit, sharing how he first learned the elements of magic from his poker-playing mother. Rich with the history of magic and populated with a cast of fascinating characters, Magic Is Dead is a page-turning work of immersive journalism coupled with a young man searching for himself.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From integral philosopher Ken Wilber, a practical guide to finding a radical and complete Wholeness through a path that blends integral theory, psychology, spiritual practice, and shadow work. According to Ken Wilber, the perpetual human search for growth and fulfillment is often incomplete. In this book, Wilber integrates the wisdom of spirituality, psychology, shadow work, science, and integral theory to offer us a path to a radical and complete Wholeness of Waking Up, Growing Up, Opening Up, Cleaning Up, and Showing Up. Wilber shows readers how to apply integral theory to their everyday lives for transformation. For example, he shows how the theory of the Four Quadrants—the four perspectives through which we view the world—relates to our lives and allows us to show up and be more present. He also discusses how to evolve our multiple intelligences, how to increase our spiritual awareness, how to process what’s hidden in the depths of our consciousness, and how to enhance, deepen, and widen the feelings of bliss and love through the practice of integral tantric sex. Wilber introduces several practices—on topics such as the Witness, One Taste, and shadow work—to lead us to direct experiences that we can integrate into our lives. In this way, we truly understand Wholeness and can make room for everything life brings our way. No other path of growth includes these five categories—each of which is a unique path to wholeness. By combining them and integrating them, one comes to a realization of what Wilber calls Big Wholeness—a completeness in which everything in our experience comes together to pull us into this deep meaning, where we feel in touch not only with all of the important aspects of ourselves but also with everything in our world.

Book excerpt: The mysterious art of magic has been a source of wonderment since before the time of Christ. Shape shifting between the supernatural practices of 'real' magic and demonstrations of dazzling illusion, magic has been used to conjure the evil eye, burn villages to the ground, slice women in half, and save men from being crushed to death by five tonnes of cement. Robert Ralley's history takes us deep into this magical underworld to reveal the astounding stories of some of the world's greatest magicians. From the astrology of the three wise men to Harry Houdini's escapology, and David Blain's endurance tests, Ralley illustrates the changing perceptions of magic and the dangerous balance between illusion, fraud, and devilry that still exists today.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first volume in Chris Stolz’s Theatre Illusions series. This series is meant to provide theatre productions with solutions to those special effects so often called for in the story or script. These can be illusions, special theatre props, transformations and much more. Each ebook in the series focuses on a different popular show. In this first installment, Chris focuses on the magical props and effects for Beauty and the Beast. Audiences are always prepared to suspend their disbelief. It’s when they don’t have to that you have something truly special. Beauty and the Beast is one of the most popular shows out there. It also has a ton of magical effects baked right into the story. Unfortunately, the script doesn’t come with explanations of how to pull them off. This leads to most theatre companies having to cut the effects, come up with alternative and usually less impactful effects or hire someone like Chris. What often surprises his clients is just how simple, cost-effective and yet visually stunning some of these effects can be. The methods outlined here have been used in real productions, for actual living and breathing audiences. They are practical, reliable and they look great all the way from row A to the lighting booth. It’s important to note that while these effects have been created with the community production budget in mind, there is nothing here that won’t up in a professional production. With simplicity often comes reliability and whether you’re doing 8 performances a week or 3, it just has to work. The following effects have been created for Beauty and the Beast and are outlined in this ebook. - The Floating Enchanted Rose Prop - The Chip Cart - The Enchantresses Fire 1: Fire from Hands - The Enchantresses Fire 2: Flash Staff - Beast Transformation 1: Mock Levitation - Beast Transformation 2: Shadow Morph Each effect is described first in construction and then in how to perform the effect. All of the major details are provided for each of these original magical creations for Beauty and the Beast.
